I wish car reviewers would stop using space as a negative just because a different car in the segment offers a slight bit more, and sometimes only more on paper but not actually more useable in practice. Just give me the figures and I'll decide if it works for my needs. Not everyone is cramming their cars to the brink and looking for every cubic inch of space. This is why every car in their segment keeps getting larger and larger. Mazda built the car to their vision and their segment of customers. And like someone mentioned in the comments, most buyers of these are not squeezing 5 people in the car.
Mazda is very misleading with their rear seat legroom numbers. They quote a high figure but if you've ever compared it to a CRV, Rav4, Rogue etc the Mazda backseat is very cramped
Another thing is not everyone has people sitting in the backseat. My wife’s car is the family car. It is rare that my family sits in my car. So for me 99% of the time the backseats are used for my work bag or storage. It doesn’t matter how comfortable the backseats are. I care significantly more about the two front seats and its comfort level.
I never once looked at a Rav 4, CRV, or Forester and thought "Damn, that's good looking". Every time I look at my mother-in-law's Soul Red 2020 CX-5 I think "Damn, that's good looking".
Just purchased the Carbon Edition yesterday! Such a beautiful car and drives like a dream! My only wish is that it should have panoramic sun roof. Other than that, it's perfect. The price was right as well.
And much cheaper than other competitors like the Rav4 or CRV with the included features in it. The Carbon edition added features are the best option for us bcoz it gives us the memory power seats, power liftgate, AWD, the moonroof and leathers seats. Oh, those deep cherry red leather seats are awesome! It just made it feel more luxurious without it being a luxury SUV lol
@@Rainnarainn Usually with the same feel you'd be paying around $38k+ but not with this SUV, and with Mazda's reputation of superb handling and engaged feel, owning this vehicle is no doubt one of the best purchase in my life! And it's really quiet inside too bcoz of those double-padded side windows and door panels!!
@R. Le'Shea Haha! You and my wife has the same issue, the panoramic sun roof. She is a sucker for the pano roof. Good thing though I was able to convince her despite the lack of it. Haha
All these reviewers are always nitpicking ! The screen needs to be a touchscreen, the rear seats are too tight, cargo area is too small, there’s only one light in the cargo area, etc, etc, etc !!! Reliability, handling and fun to drive are my requirements and Mazda CX-5 meets them all !!
If all those complaints were corrected, then they would say it was too large and cumbersome, or it would still be too small because it would be in the larger class of vehicles at the bottom when comparing to the competition.
2013 cx5 with 184k and just changing the oil every 8k. zoom zoom. overall well engineered and very good reliability. looking to upgrade to the next gen cx5 soon
The non-turbo 0-60 is 8.3 seconds and didn't feel that fun to drive to me. It is a practical car but nothing exciting to me - a bland type of drive, but practicle
I don't understand why the trunk volume is so important. Who is going to fill the trunk everyday? As long as the trunk is sufficient, what is the problem? By the way, who don't like to drive a car that is beautiful inside and sexy outside? Practically maybe is an issue, but when I drive a car that makes me happy that is the most important thing!!!
I think it's because many people get SUVs and CUVs for the cargo capacity. The CX-5 looks plenty usable to me though. We don't have kids, but do travel occasionally with two larger dogs, and I think they'll be plenty comfortable in the back seat with plenty of space in cargo area for our bags.
@@errorsofmodernism9715 Interestingly, Mazda engineers recognized this problem and adjusted their combustion strategy. They are trying to prevent most carbon deposits by more controlling the head and exhaust gas temperatures. Their official position is the temps do not get high enough to encourage depositing. I wonder how that strategy will play out in 10 years, compared to the many dirty hot engines out there.
@@errorsofmodernism9715 You mean injection, I wonder if a port injector admitting a fine mist of kerosene just might keep the valves clean. In the old lead fuel days water injectors used to keep down the coke build up in the heads.
Cargo, fuel economy, and fuel range are my biggest complaints. Aside from that, I've been in love with this for years!!! Rear leg room is also a compromise
Cramped leg room? I just bought the carbon edition about a month ago. Both my dad and his dad are 6’3 and 6’2 and have never once complained about leg room in the back. Unless shaq is sitting in the back the leg room is plenty
I said the same thing. In my case, we are not tall, we are fat and with my 3 kids in the back they are very happy with the space and when I tried sitting there I was very comfortable so I dont really understand the notion of a cramped leg room
For me I am 5' 7" and the drivers seat is super cramped. That plastic console forces your right leg where you can't move it at all and it must sit directly straight up all the time. I did a long test drive and my right knee was aggravated by the way it had to push up against that hard plastic console. You must like sitting with your knees no more than about 3 inches apart, cause for normal sitting that drivers seat is so cramped. Please Please do long test drives and if that center console annoys you - don't waste your money cause after doing a 2 hour + drive you will be hating live.
Looks like I misread that horse power number. And I was .5 off on the screen. I must have rounded up. I hope I didn’t mislead you during your car research process.
Overall I agree with you. I have been the happy owner of a 2019 CX-5 Signature since Dec. 2018 and have 35,500 trouble free miles on it. My only real compliant is that the dark brown leather is too dark. Needs to be a lighter brown or saddle color to be really rich looking. Also I wish Mazda had a really bright blue color available like my 2007 Bahama Blue Mica 2007 Mazda 6 5-door I traded in the this car. My mileage is 23-24 mpg in the city and 28-30 mpg on the interstate on regular gas. The turbo power is great to have on the interstate. I find the cargo space is enough for me and I like the 40/20/40 split rear seat. Mazda really deserves higher sales. This car competes with SUV's $10-15,000 more and is very reliable. Thanks, for the great videos.
@Norma Jean Vandever What's the chances of blowing out a tire? I've been driving for 46 years, and I've never blown out a tire. Meanwhile, the AWD is nice to have because of the snow we get every year.
Size is not the problem. In my book it being smaller than the competition is an advantage. What needs improving is the ergonomics of the center console. Tall cups block the dials and no usb in the forward cubby under the dash. The GT trim we test drove did not have lumbar support. The CX-30 is better. Having more trim selection allows the customer to get what they need if they are on a budget. Another concern is the cylinder deactivation with long term wear. It’s a great car, just needs updating. Please do not make it bigger. Get a CX-9 if you want bigger.
I work for Toyota and this is still my number one choice for my next vehicle. I absolutely agree with limited trim levels and larger cargo space. Fingers crossed 🤞🏽
The CX-9 gives more cargo space, while being 20" longer than the CX-5. If you want the CX-5 to be longer so that you can have more cargo space, then it won't be a CX-5... it will be a CX-9.
I have a 2020 AWD Touring with the Preferred Package. Love this vehicle--has just what I need and is downright fun to drive. We also have a one ton truck with an 8' bed, so towing and hauling are not an issue.
** IF ** you are looking for a 2021 CX-5 with a Turbo 2.5L PLEASE have it looked at by a mechanic. ALL Turbo '21 2.5L Mazda Models have been suffering from oil consumption issues due to the valve guides/seals leaking. There is a Mazda TSB as well as a CA lawsuit that has been filed. Not sure if this was caused by supply chain issues back then? It was during the height of the pandemic. -Note: Some '21 2.5L Turbo models are unaffected at this time, and the normally aspirated ones so far are fine as well.
We have a 2016 cx5 sport version. The first camping trip we had it packed with all of our camping items. After the trip, I decided to invest and install a roof rack. Second camping trip we had a lot more room.
I traded in my 2019 CRV touring with the CX-5 GTR 2020. Although it had more cargo but the CVT transmission was very sluggish. The handling around the curve was average. I think the fun element CX-5 Turbo provides far out weights the practicality of CRV. I think it's perfect for a small family. I never had any issues with Cargo space. If you want more cargo, get a Minivan 😝
CVTs only "feel" sluggish because the engine will rev up and hold that RPM, however, the power of the CVT is to allow the engine to stay in the optimal rev band depending on the load. It doesn't feel fast or sporty but it does deliver best economy and acceleration
@@brarautorepairs I had a crv 15, while the cargo is a lot more, it was slow, but had great gas mileage, I just got the Mazda carbo edition, love it! Love the handling n it’s a fun vehicle!
@@brarautorepairs My 2019 Touring had the same engine but it was very slow accelerating. At cruising speeds it was fine. Mazda is true to its slogan “Feel Alive” specially in curvy roads!
I traded in my 2013 Mazda3 to lease a CX 5. In December 2021 I will be leasing my 3rd CX 5 Sport ... Mileage is great. Power is just what I need on the highway, cargo space works for me. The new lease will be the 4th Mazda in my history of vehicles.
The CX-5 is wonderful with one big exception for big backside drivers. The front driver seat has firm side bolsters on the seat bottom. They can pinch in on people with bigger backside and thighs. I was in serious discomfort after a 30 minute drive of a grand touring reserve. You will not notice the pain in the first 10-15 minutes. So take an extended drive and pay extra attention. A quick google search will show other people have experienced similar discomfort with the front seat. If you are tiny, I would think you are OK and the vehicle is absolutely amazing. If you are bigger - watch out. Note is am 6’1 and 210 lbs. I was coming out of a 2016 GTI S for 5 years that never bothered me. So I am not a huge person and was accustomed to a sports seat - not sure why the CX-5 dug into my thighs.
I have the 2021 model and am 6'4" and 308 lbs although most of my weight is in the stomach area, and have no issue at all with the seating. I realise you are talking about the backside and I guess mine is about normal for my height. Just wanted to add that being heavier and a little bit taller didn't cause a problem for me. The centre console is slightly annoying but much better than the RAV-4 which was a big factor in me choosing the Mazda. You have to go with what is best for you no matter what other people might say is good or bad with a vehicle. KIA Sportage won car of the year here but I didn't like it after a test drive.
I tried to like the CX5 with 2 different test drives (2023 model) and really wanted to like this car and tried talking myself into it, but the front seat feels so cramped with that with that large center console not letting you to move your right leg at all if you like to sit a bit relaxed. The sales person said that they did that due to a design with how the transmission runs through the center of the car, they had to take up more room that normal. You have to drive with your knees very close together and on long trips, that type of posture will just get exhausting. I have a ridgeline now and that seat is just so comfortable compared to the super cramped feeling in the CX5. I also owned a 2014 honda CRV, 2006 Mazda3 and neither of those ever had this type of poor design problem like the CX5 and the CX50 have. If you are a small very thin person who likes to sit with their knees about 4 inches or less apart this is great car all around, but for folks that like a relaxed drive - don't buy until you do a good long test drive.. The CX50 seats are really uncomfortable but with the numerous complaints mazda sales person said they should be fixing that in upcoming modes. In this car review, you do see everyman driver's knee cramped up against the center console but he makes no mention of how cramped it feels. I am shocked because I test drove a ton of cars this week and the only one that has this issue was the Mazda CX5 so not sure how that wasn't mentioned on the review as he is about the same build as I am. Hope this helps, please do a long test drive before you purchase - cars so much money now so get something that will be comfortable long term.
@@MikeL-gm8ymI completely agree. I test drove the CX-5 today and the cabin area felt cramped and uncomfortable. I’m a tiny person but I have a habit of driving with my left knee bent but there’s no room to adjust my leg position at all. Also, the center console is set so far back it makes it useless as an armrest. I’m so disappointed I really wanted to love this car!
One of the autos I am loking at on my next car list is a pre owned CX5 2017-2020. I hope that with the redesign Mazda doesn't screw it up especially with any new engine/transmissions. it seems that other companies when they up the transmissiom to an 8 or 10 speed have had some serious problems. The few a reas such as cargo capacity and rear seat room are not big negatives for me. My main areas of concern are reliability and comfort which the CX 5 seems to do very well
My folding e bike fits in the back without folding down the rear seat backs and have yet to run out of room hauling anything else. I don't think I would change a thing.
Misquoted the turbo hp; it’s 227 on regular & 250 with premium. Just recently bought a Signature model & very impressed with the styling. This is closer to an Audi than Honda or Toyota. Backseat space is cramped & cargo space is low. Overall though this is a very impressive vehicle!
Had the pleasure of driving a 2019 model on a 7 hour drive to northern California chasing a 370Z on a windy road had no problem keeping up was trying hard to push the limit CX5 did not disappoint. 👌
@@ChicagoBulls1984 My sister-in-law was riding in the back seat of my Carbon Edition, and she said, she didn't feel the bumps from the street in front of her house.
Honestly if you're maxing out the cargo volume of any Compact SUV you're in the wrong kind of vehicle for your needs...Or conversely once all is said and done, what are you really adding in the *bigger* cars, tell me, 2 packs of eggs? Maybe a suit case? Go open the CRV/Rav4/Escape all next to the CX5. Just how much more practical is it💁♂️
what i dont get is my 2018 cx-5 grand touring with the premium package is what the grand touring signature reserve trim is now. Mazda had 3 trims in 2018 sport touring and grand touring with GT with premium packkage being the top trim with all the options heated back seats HUD heated steeringwheel etc mazda seem to have halved its trims options to create more trims and than added a new reverse camera to the new signature trim.
My main problem. I have Siriusxm. I can't change channels using the steering wheel. Must use the selector knob and do 3 total turns and presses to change the channel. The steering wheel only let's me control volume and the button that should be used to change channel instead is for rewind and ffw, skip channels. It is annoying and very hard to get used to. Plus the knob or cup holders are in a bad spot. Can't really use the knob with a decent size bottle in the cup holder.
If I recall correctly, having had several Mazdas, and two with the current generation infotainment setup, you can use voice commands for station selection if you don't have your phone hooked up for Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
I test drove the CRV, RAV4, Crosstrek and CX5. Went with a lightly-used 2018 touring CX5 in white. The wife and I like the way it handles and very quiet cabin. I hate CVTs and love the Mazda reliability. 👍🏻. CRV came in second place.
@@sassouusasoo3607 there absolutely is such a thing as a lightly used, used car. I bought a used car year old with 2k miles. That's lightly used compared to one that had 23k on the same one year old .
Which is good, it’s safer, and keeps the screen fingerprint free, I don’t know why people “need” a touch screen, just use the dial, you will get used to it.
@@williamreddish6498 I'm not disagreeing with you., but he said in the video that the brand-new 10 inch screens, were all "Touchscreen". And that simply is not true.
Here’s an idea, if you want to increase the cargo space to be as big or even greater than the Forester or the CR-V, do this….Buy a CX-9. Wow that’s hard, now is it.
I will probably be looking at at the CX 5 from 2017-2021 in the next few years. I would like to know if Mazda decided to incorporate that ridiculous stop/start feature on the CX 5 from 2017 onward. If so is there a way to turn that off ?
Traded both my Mazda cx5GTs in after Mazda was giving me a hard time bout my oil leaks that were coming from the head, 2 times this happen and they said it was my fault of poor owner ship and maintenance, which I showed them all records and I was on top of maintenance . After that I traded then in and I have no regrets now happy with current vehicles no issues whatsoever.
In terms of size or space, I dunno if Mazda needs to really revisen the model, just introduce the CX-8 that is available in countries like Austrailia and the Philippines.

According to Consumer Reports, the Mazda cx-5 and Toyota RAV4 have exactly the same cargo space. The Honda CR-V has 6 cubic feet more. For the slight difference I would choose the Mazda every time.
The RAV4 and the CRV though are not at all cramped in the drivers seat with how poor of a design mazda did with that center console being to wide and the gas pedal being pushed to far to the right (see minute 2:37) - it may have good cargo space in the back but that front seat is built for a small child.
I kind of disagree. I get that it's a fair comparison because of the best in class competitors, but IMO people drawn to the CX-5 likely aren't going to be the same as the demo looking to buy a CRV or RAV4. I don't have kids, I don't need a ton of cargo space. I wanted more cargo space than a sedan while still being fun and zippy to drive. The AWD turbo CX-5 fits the bill there, I never considered a CRV or RAV4 when I got my CX-5. But damn that 10" screen makes upgrading to the new CX-5 super tempting...
I just finished paying off mine after 6 years, and I have a list of what bothers me with mine: hellishly shocky ride quality, bad brakes, infotainment system that sometimes chooses a random screen when I start the car, when I re-select the song list from a USB thumb drive it always takes me back to the top instead of showing me the currently playing song, A/C sometimes likes to switch from dash vents to floor vents while cutting off the compressor (a real necessity in the summer). I see that they moved the start button out from behind the steering wheel, but on my 2016 it made no sense to have the start button obscured. The one thing I do like above the competition is that this car has a real transmission & no CVT. As soon as I take care of a few things I'm trading mine in for something with a better ride and more reliable.
@@milopichu Honestly I've had enough of this car. I have reasons to trade it in anyway as I have plans to look for something that can tow at least 10k lbs.
In my opinion, this SUV is almost perfect. It just needs (and it's in no particular order) 1) a bigger trunk space 2) a Panoramic sunroof 3) a Touch screen, that you can also touch while driving. (Though some say with the older models like 2020 and below, you can hack the software to do that.) 4) More Passenger leg room
And Mazda to make that drivers seat more comfortable with slimming up that center console so your right knee doesn't have to constantly rest on that hard plastic as you work the gas pedal.
*Very* cramped rear legroom was a deal breaker for me. I really really wanted to make it work. Had a good offer on the sales desk, ready to pull the trigger. But I could not get past this problem.
I have a 2015 CX-5 Touring and I love mine. We only had three trim levels in 2015, so it made it easier to pick. I think my other half would prefer something more luxurious, so maybe I'll get a new Signature CX-5 at some point.
Mine has been used to tow it's maximum allowable load long distance at 60-70 mph with plenty of power left for overtakes. That all that matters to me, no truck needed.
Its a compact SUV. People don't expect a ton of cargo space. The biggest problem the CX-5 has is the 6 speed auto transmission. If they had a decent 8 speed it would help performance significantly.
Sell the 100th anniversity edition in the U.S and I might trade in my 2013 CX5 that has 71000 miles It's available in Canada white with red and white interior. Sharp
I have 2019 cx5 Everything good specially MPG i get at least 30! Sometimes around 35.Only problem i have from day 1 is vibrating on highway when 60-70. And dealer say thats normal.
Hey, bro. Can you please do a comparison between Mazda 2018 or 2019 Cx-5 and 2018 or 2019 GMC Terrain SLT. no one has ever compare the modern GMC Terrain and Mazda CX-5.
I can tell you as someone who has followed the CX5 subreddit for 2 years now, people absolutely care about cargo and back seat room. One of the common questions is spacing for car seats and if its a family friendly suv. I am one of those people as well with a car seat and toddler in the back. The Forester is ugly and wasn't even a consideration, but I just looked at their stats and the Forester has 0.2" LESS rear seat leg room than the CX5 anyways...
Your wrong, we do. Subaru's have lots of relaiblity issues and recalls, so mazda cx5 is more reliable but for me that cramped drivers seat led me away from it. that center console bangs up my right knee on that hard plastic console as you work the gas pedal.
Very different styles and feel between the two. I like the tech with the Tucson but the driving performance of the Mazda is tough to beat. Personally, I'd go with the Tucson but there's no wrong answer.
I took the new carbon Edition CX-9 for a ride and it has a lot of Pep to it however I didn't quite feel comfortable in it I'm not sure if it was my height or my broad shoulders. But second row head room varied on one car left to right.
If you added cargo volume it wouldn't be a CX-5. It would be what once was a CX-5 with more cargo, but what gets compromised elsewhere? Found myself having to scramble to trade my AWD Santa Fe SEL with convenience and chose a new 2021 AWD CX-5 Touring. That's just the 6th out of 7 trim levels (Agreed, there are a lot of trim levels). Sure, the Santa Fe cargo bay was amazing, but my family and friends love this CX-5. I've just had it two months, but it's plush and the quality jumps out at you. Don't change a thing.
Got to have the 24 trim levels, how else are dealers gona rip you off ? Great machine, love it. Just bought a carbon edition turbo. Cargo space ? It’s just fine. We all don’t need to be driving pickup trucks. Why do I need to be hauling more than 5 people? Might have bought an electric vehicle, if something resembling proper infrastructure existed in the still backwards US of A.
There are only 2 things that bother me about the CX-5... the blind spots (which all the other SUVs have), and the tiny fog lights. The fog lights only enhance the driving lights, and helps others see me better. Other than that, I love my new CX-5. It's the perfect size for me and my wife. And I know that my 3 teen granddaughters will seat just fine in the backseat. It's comfortable and fast w/ the turbo. I don't need great gas mileage since I'll only put about 2,000 miles on it in a year, which means, I'll spend about $350 annually on fuel.
That’s what fog lights are meant to do… they aren’t for driver’s visibility, they are so others see you better. The idea is that fog doesn’t settle closer to the ground, hence why fog lights are down low. You’re supposed to turn them off once the fog has lifted
Something I wished car reviewers would have talked about: Gas tank for these is only 14 gallons....Likely not a problem for NA FWD models, but im filling up my AWD Turbo alllllll the time...Even though mileage is still good.
@@blakee9690 Why is it not big enough? It still gets 27 mpg on the highway. That comes to over 400 miles of driving. That's way more miles than what a person will get with a fully charged electric vehicle, which people think is just fine.
If you don't mind having no touchscreen, then go ahead but it will get dated soon due to knob technology being from 2004 BMW and got phased out by most manufacturers 5 years ago.
We leased a Grand Touring Reserve several months ago. We are a 2 adult family, so tight back seats don’t really matter to us. We have a sedan, and wanted something with a little cargo space. My husband researches these kinds of expenditures throughly, and found the CX-5 to have some of the best ratings in its class, for the $$$. The things I dislike are: 1) having to plug my phone into a cord for Car Play. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve forgotten to unplug it and take it with me when I exited the car. Having my shopping list on my phone, and finding out half way through the store that I left my phone in the car, is NOT a pretty site. Other cars have Bluetooth enabled, for this. 2) I like the wide view of the backup camera, but hate the static guide; I prefer to see the guide point to where the car will go when I turn the wheel. 3) I can’t believe that this is their almost top of the line model, and there are no front sensors for parking! Enough said, I’ve even seen some vehicles that have front cameras for parking. 4) The driver’s seat is hard. It wasn’t too noticeable when I test drove it, but on the way home (a 20+ minute ride) it became obvious. My husband bought this vehicle for me, so he didn’t drive it. He attempted to take it on a short trip and said his back was killing him a couple of hours up the road; he hurt so bad he turned around and came home. So much for this being a vehicle for us to take on vacation. I’m not sure if any of those things would have been “deal breakers” for us. But now that I’ve driven it for a number of months I’m glad we only have a 3 year commitment. Our plan was to purchase it at the end of the lease, but I don’t see that happening now.
If you don't need the rear leg room, then look into a BMW X1. Front PDC, wireless Apple play and better ride and seating even in the lower trims. I'm not sure if there is a big price difference between the top of the line CX5 and the X1 but I'm pretty confident the payments would be close. I currently have a X3 for family duties and it been rock solid reliable. I do my own maintenance so the cost is very low. If I bought it brand new, the first 3 years are included from the manufacturer. So be sure to factor in maintenance costs when buying any car.
It's ridiculous no touch screen. I know it's cheaper to use a regular screen but touch screen is where it's at as we are about to start the 3rd decade in the 21st century in less than 6 years. It would be a dream to finally see gasoline powered cars finally give us 50 MPG city. I have been waiting for this since 1980!

You said touch screen is available? I got a new Mazda 20121 signature trim level and I don't think I have a touch screen option. If there's a trick to turn it on?" Can you please share? Thanks in advance Great video btw👍
Do you always try to operate the touch screen when the car is moving? The touch screen only works when the car is stopping; once it’s moving you can only navigate it using the knob. For safety reason according to Mazda. Hope this helps
What bothers me is that my CX-5 Diesel engine exploded at 66,000 miles and Mazda said it's out of warranty, which is 60k btw... BTW they sent me an email telling they understand my anger and they very sorry, MFs...
Current gen cx5 has age so well and looks much better than rav4 and CRV. Mazda is for people that prioritize style and performance over space. The space is limited because of the long hood which is what makes it stand out among the competition and also it’s safer in a frontal collision. Cx-5 performs very good in moose test and it’s the only crossover suv among 20 tested to pass the new side impact test with good score.
The bigger the car is it probably compromises the driving dynamics. I mean they should make the next gen have more second row legrooom & headroom even WITH a panoramic sunroof & more cargo capacity as long as it doesn’t compromise the driving dynamics
If they did all those different changes to the CX-5, it wouldn't be a CX-5 anymore. The nitpickers will be happy in 2023 when they replace the CX-5 with the CX-50, and then they can complain about the CX-50.
Here’s the thing, I don’t need a huge SUV otherwise I’d buy a trailblazer or a suburban, I want the smaller SVU for snowboarding, or camping. Mazda keep the size, make the CX-50 your big SVU
As far as space, I wouldn't complain much about the cargo. However, I can't find a comfortable position in the driver's seat. I'm 5'10, and I feel a little cramped. If the seat seat went back another inch, I would be happier. Then there's the A pillar.
I don't care about sq. ft. cargo. I just wish it laid down flat with the seats folded down. My old 2009 Ford Escape laid perfectly flat and when I went back fora. second Escape they had changed the seat design to having a 2 inch step up from trunk. That was a NO GO for me. I ended up with a Mazda 2017. Love the car but the seats don't fold perfecty flat like my old Ford Escape 2009. Still have that Escape for second car. GREAT YEAR. Been to shop twice and one of those was a recall part.
The CX-5's cargo area, and leg room, are fine for me. If a person needs more room, buy a Mazda CX-9. Maybe, buy a moving van. The CX-5 should be perfect for averaged size parents with 3 average sized kids. I've read comments for guys that are 6' 4" and 6' 6" whom said, the front seat fits them alright.

If not for space, why buy an SUV at all. Get a sports sedan and you'll have more fun.
@@Henlarious then get a sports car... i dont need my suv to feel like a sports car. I got it cause i needed a family car.
@@juantamad5528 yes! Totally agree! Those seats!!!! I feel like I am riding around in luxury! It’s the the best! I was so shocked at the price!
@@Rainnarainn Usually with the same feel you'd be paying around $38k+ but not with this SUV, and with Mazda's reputation of superb handling and engaged feel, owning this vehicle is no doubt one of the best purchase in my life! @R. Le'Shea Haha! You and my wife has the same issue, the panoramic sun roof. She is a sucker for the pano roof. Good thing though I was able to convince her despite the lack of it. Haha
I wish they'd offer a panoramic sunroof for this as well.
HERE, HERE!!!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Wouldn't a Porsche Macan be a better fit for these criteria?
If all those complaints were corrected, then they would say it was too large and cumbersome, or it would still be too small because it would be in the larger class of vehicles at the bottom when comparing to the competition.
2013 cx5 with 184k and just changing the oil every 8k. zoom zoom. overall well engineered and very good reliability. looking to upgrade to the next gen cx5 soon
I want to get one I'm looking at the 2019
This brand is underrated but the CX-5 looks fun to drive buy over CR-V.
The non-turbo 0-60 is 8.3 seconds and didn't feel that fun to drive to me. It is a practical car but nothing exciting to me - a bland type of drive, but practicle
I'm driving this vehicle right now as a loaner and I love it!
Base engine may not be the fastest, but it has a proven reliability!!! And NO CVT!!
yes, but direct ignition so you can spend your weekends removing the head and sand blasting the carbon off
@@errorsofmodernism9715 Interestingly, Mazda engineers recognized this problem and adjusted their combustion strategy.
@@errorsofmodernism9715 that’s nothing. Look at a VW GTI FSI engine. Terrible!
I think these complainers are brainwashing each other.
277 horses?! You got it wrong there its 227 on regular and 250 on premium gas. And the screen is 10.25 inches.

The non-touch screen is the only thing that drives me crazy…
I get 28 MPG same as my Outback but I definitely notice the smaller gas tank.
The gas tank size for the CX-5 is 15.3 gallons.
@@onlyhuman2015 it’s not big enough for the turbo model.
@@blakee9690 Why is it not big enough? It still gets 27 mpg on the highway. That comes to over 400 miles of driving. That's way more miles than what a person will get with a fully charged electric vehicle, which people think is just fine.
@@judgeadvocate9275 I’ve seen the EPA numbers and can tell you it doesn’t get them.
Cruising range is 250-280 miles in real world mixed driving.
Hoping for 2023 they just make the turbo for all of the trim levels.
I wanna buy the cx5 2018 or 2019 any advice???
If you don't mind having no touchscreen, then go ahead but it will get dated soon due to knob technology being from 2004 BMW and got phased out by most manufacturers 5 years ago.
We leased a Grand Touring Reserve several months ago. We are a 2 adult family, so tight back seats don’t really matter to us. We have a sedan, and wanted something with a little cargo space. My husband researches these kinds of expenditures throughly, and found the CX-5 to have some of the best ratings in its class, for the $$$. The things I dislike are:
1) having to plug my phone into a cord for Car Play.

I agree. They have to address the cargo room.
Maybe, they'll come out with a 2022 Mazda Moving Van for you people that don't have enough cargo room.
If they increase the cargo room, then it's not a CX-5 anymore. Buy a CX-9. I bought a 2021 CX-5, and it works perfect for me and my wife.
You said touch screen is available? I got a new Mazda 20121 signature trim level and I don't think I have a touch screen option.
If there's a trick to turn it on?"
Can you please share?
Thanks in advance
Great video btw👍
Do you always try to operate the touch screen when the car is moving? The touch screen only works when the car is stopping; once it’s moving you can only navigate it using the knob. For safety reason according to Mazda. Hope this helps
@@alwayshungry7070 2021 with the big screen is not touchscreen At all
@@th003gh8 Awe man, it at least worked as a touch screen before … until you go over 8.5 mph then it’s the dial only.
Holy crap Dave looks so buff here!
It’s funny how Mazda didn’t even bother to visually differentiate the trims from each other 😂
What bothers me is that my CX-5 Diesel engine exploded at 66,000 miles and Mazda said it's out of warranty, which is 60k btw... BTW they sent me an email telling they understand my anger and they very sorry, MFs...
Stiff ride or stiff seats? If the CX-5 had the seats of the CX-30, I'd probably buy the Carbon Edition turbo...
I agree with the trim levels. Disagree on cargo space, if you want more buy a PICKUP. Losing touch screen sucks.
Beautiful car no doubt, but if only it was a little big bigger. Maybe not CR-V or Rogue big, but at least the size of a Terrain.
CX-9
@@onlyhuman2015 for a 'midsize' SUV, the CX-9 needs to be bigger too. Some compact SUVs have more overall cargo space.
@@chief8079 Buy a moving van. Most people don't need to haul van-loads of stuff, or live in their vehicles.
As far as space, I wouldn't complain much about the cargo. However, I can't find a comfortable position in the driver's seat. I'm 5'10, and I feel a little cramped. If the seat seat went back another inch, I would be happier. Then there's the A pillar.
It took me weeks to figure out my seating position. I have it set pretty high up, I feel I have better visibility that way. I'm 5ft9.
Did you follow the seating positioning instructions in the owners manual?
I don't care about sq. ft. cargo. I just wish it laid down flat with the seats folded down. My old 2009 Ford Escape laid perfectly flat and when I went back fora. second Escape they had changed the seat design to having a 2 inch step up from trunk. That was a NO GO for me. I ended up with a Mazda 2017. Love the car but the seats don't fold perfecty flat like my old Ford Escape 2009. Still have that Escape for second car. GREAT YEAR. Been to shop twice and one of those was a recall part.
I laughed so hard when he mentioned the 7 trim levels
The CX-5's cargo area, and leg room, are fine for me. If a person needs more room, buy a Mazda CX-9. Maybe, buy a moving van. The CX-5 should be perfect for averaged size parents with 3 average sized kids. I've read comments for guys that are 6' 4" and 6' 6" whom said, the front seat fits them alright.
