I was thinking he might have talked a little about restoration and its consequences, good and bad but he didn't. Baumgartner's 2nd slow descent into madness.
Franklin Roosevelt’s mother Sarah was a Delano. (If I heard the name correctly) They were Huguenots who came over on the Mayflower. Their original name spellings were de Lannoy or de la Noye. Sara’s immediate family lived in NY State and I believe may have had naval or trade connections. Would be worth checking with the genealogy section of the NYPL on 5th Ave when they reopen or it’s possible some librarians are working remotely right now. I’m confident they have this family mapped. You might also check with the Society library which is a part of the NYPL in Manhattan.
If it's nautical, it is a chart, not a map. I've spent a decent amount of time navigating ships at sea, and I certainly wasn't dressed so smartly. Haircut, I think I had him beat.
Dont forget to tell him when you get home that his portrait is worth 10 thousand dollars. If you remove it from the frame , have it done by a professional. Sometimes a print or painting will stick to the glass if its touching and if you try to pull it off youll ruin it.
@Millicient Aspinet Imagine them also gaslighting others, when they themselves are the one who wishes to abscond. I'd better stop or my blood pressure will go up.
Where the treasure is hidden ? on 2:00 you can see he is pointing on a cross X . And octant is just an extra clue :D So he has that golden divider under slave nice equipment as well. So i assume he had enough money to higher expansive painter. And there are defiantly more paintings of this artists across the land , maybe artist even traveled with him across seas, maybe signed paintings will be founded. Anyway cool story and nice art.
This historic portrait could benefit by being sent to Baumgartner Fine Art Restorations - seen here on YT. He'll make this image come alive once again by removing old varnish and carefully re-touching damage to the canvas.
@@lususlove That tells me three things: (1) there is a need for a service like this, (2) Baumgartner will forever be busy - and successful, and (3) this gives others the chance to learn the art of conservation and be well compensated for it.
If that painting was haunted I’d get rid of that thing faster than you can say ABC!!! Of course I mean give away, not throw away. I mean it’s history people!
Stuff happens to the best captains. The sea is indomitable and unpredictable. It has no rules but its own. It is wilder and more powerful than any creature on earth, and possibly the most devastating of disasters.
He didn't have a short life because if you think about it he had a typical life span from that time period. Dying sucks at any age but he wasn't short changed.
Wrong. People didn't regularly live to 27 years of age in the late 1700s. It was nowhere close to a typical life span, assuming you ignore infant mortality. You aren't factoring in that once people lived beyond early childhood, they typically lived much longer than the average. For instance, at this time, stats show that if a person reached the age of 20, as this man did, then they averaged to reach the age of 60. The average life expectancy from birth (about 30 years) was pulled down greatly by high infant mortality rates. Furthermore, wealthy people, such as this man, typically lived much healthier lifestyles with better food and lived longer. So, yes, his life was cut short.
"Ghost stories" are always so ridiculous to me, but the way this lady recounted hers, it seems like everyone involved was amused by it. So it's a bit more charming. The REAL mystery is why anyone put an oil painting behind glass!!
By default all ghost stories should have the ghost naked. Did your textiles die & go into the spirit world with you? But they never are. If a ghost is adorned with clothing, they would have to have projected that image into your mind or adorned themselves with clothing. Either way would be giving them godlike powers. Logic alone suggest there's no such thing as a ghost, unless it's naked.
It would be nice to see this go to Baumgartner Restoration.
V C Lol literally just thought the same thing 😂
I was looking for this comment, so I could like it! 😊
I was thinking he might have talked a little about restoration and its consequences, good and bad but he didn't. Baumgartner's 2nd slow descent into madness.
Great minds! 😉👍
Agree 👍

Was wonderin’ just as you were about this very connection!!! Thank You profusely !!!
Amazing you can really see the family resemblance in the bone structure and eyes. I hope she keeps it.
😃 I like this guy, wonderful story, awesome memories. I'd love to own this painting! 😏 Very cool! 👍

Yes, I can see that ! =)
Lmao 🤣
Lance Lee lol he probably wouldn’t be caught dead in shorts and a T-shirt
@@bwana3006 Man, I wish that was what I was wearing. U.S. Navy khakis are a lot of things, but comfortable they are not.
Lance Lee i bet not with heavy starch and all
Great ghost story to go along with the picture! Love it!
A story twist. He did not die on sea, the painting capture him😂
only reason im listening atm
Love this appraiser from Freeman's. He reminds me of Tim Walz😅
My god, those eyes, was my initial response.
And she did mention that the Painting is Haunted AF !!! It looks a lot like "the Painting of Dorian Gray " !!!
Brilliant portrait!
ya but thin over thick
LOVE THESE SHOWS! THANK YOU!!!
Gorgeous painting
this piece needs the tender love and care of a Julian Baumgartner

GORGEOUS!
I hope she doesn't sell it. He should remain in the family
Would have been interesting to know how much it will be worth after an restauration. There where several damages in the painting.
think she was hoping for a few extra zeros on the evaluation..!
I don't think she had any specific expectations. It will never be sold.
I've seen 18th and 19th-century family paintings for sale on ebay by relatives all because they want an extra $1500.00
Quite the history.
Anyone else here have a very old family portrait, which was stolen from you by another family member?
It is referred to as a "spoliated" painting.
No
@Millicient Aspinet Imagine them also gaslighting others, when they themselves are the one who wishes to abscond.

Shes crazy
She said he went up the coast to TURNER, Maine... Turner is nowhere near the coast.
Ever heard of the Androscoggin River?
Remove the glass! This beautiful picture would benefit greatly.
That's an antique glass, too.
Who would put glass over an oil painting ? Traps moisture, mold etc . 🤪🤦🏻♂️👎🏻
People who dont know.
What are you supposed to put over them?
It's to keep the ghost in 😄
@@gwenmartinsen3979 Nothing , like other oil paintings. The glass cover will eventually cause to painting to be totally ruined.

I heard he gets thousands of submissions and turns 98 percent of them away.

More importantly... it actually exists

Needs restoring obviously, but they are wrong with the price - nearer $20,000.
Do we see "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" ? 👀
I absolutely love The Ghost and Mrs.Muir! When it's showing on TMC, I watch it as if it's my first time.

Its Kinda sad when Painting Worth less in back 1700 - 1900 ,but when bring to Present its cost a lot because its History
i hate estimates like this, if I'm honest. We all know the value is 5 times this.
the unknown painter was the reason why the value is not high
Who would want to buy a haunted painting?
I wouldn't care, if it wasn't "angry". 🤷♀️
Queue cousin Barnabas, from "England"
A nautical “map” is called a chart, sir.
That painting is haunted! Lol
It's a chart, not a map.
captions don't match the speaker's words
She was very talkative.
Aliana Makeup-Artist-Trainer-NewZealand I agree! She’s told this story many, many times before and gets exaggerated at each telling! 🤣
She was expecting more, but am I the only one who goes straight to the 3:00 mark?
is that a painting or a secret treasure map?
Hmmm... Perhaps a secret message?
Were bangs popular for men during that era?

I would sell it as fast as I could. I don't want some ghost in my house.
A chart not a map sir.
Ive seen that movie before scary movie 2?
That’s it? I’ve gotten use to being stunned with high amounts...
I'm wondering if it's partly because they don't know who painted it & because of the condition.
I do think it was low because of the condition.

It’s a very horrible painting artistically but it’s great value. Wow such a nice video.
did she seriously just say "grand-uncle" LMFAO
Oh well that was anticlimactic
he certainly has the look of someone who secretly creeps about the homes of teenage girls
If white privilege was a TV show it would be the Antiques Roadshow.
Move on and take that nonsense with you.
K
The US show has such ridiculously inflated values. $8-10K?? She'd do well to get $1K at auction.
Totally agree.
first
Doh!
Congratulations. 🙄
It’s annoying how she keeps calling the painting “him/he.”
She was hoping for more worth! No excitement at all...
8 to 10 thousand? Really? I was thinking a hundred or so.
Is ignorance bliss?
If they ever sell it will the ghost travel with it? What if a Chinese millionaire bought it? GHOST: WTF!!??
Born in 1767 and she is claiming he was the first New England sea captain? Dang, her knowledge of New England history is tres weak.
Youngest !!!
