Ive been watching canada basketball since 2010, ive seen so many iterations of this roster. That being said my 12 man roster would be- Shai gilgeous alexander, jamal murray, rj barrett, dillon brooks, kelly olynyk, dwight powell, andrew wiggins, lugentz dort, nickeil alexander walker, andrew nembhard, melvin ejim and zach edey,. Its important to note that andrew wiggins has had a contentious relationship with rowan barrett and canada basketball for some time now. The reserve big position is up for grabs, however priority will be given to zach edey or kyle alexander. Due to the plethora of wings, oshae brissett and melvin ejim and thomas scrubb become redundant, especially if wiggins plays. Its important to have european pros on the team as well, though Trae bell haynes and phil scrubb may not be up to par with all the guard options i noted. I do belive melvin ejim makes the final cut though over a trey lyles, hes shot over 40 percent from three in europe, and hes the longest tenured player in this training camp, a true staple of the program, who may only have one more go around to get a medal. Either way all 12 gentlemen will be deserving, and i do believe we will go for gold, id say anything short of playing for a medal should be considered a failure. We will make that podium though

If he does i wont be mad, as i said in my first comment i believe the 12 gentlemen on the final roster will be deserving, and anything short of the podium should and will be viewed as a failure.

Ejim couldn't guard anyone on Team USA. He is not up to par talent wise. Lyles is the better overall shooter, better all around player and the bigger player for a team lacking in frontcourt size. Jordi wouldn't have brought Lyles to camp if he wasn't making the team. Ejim most likely will be one of the three non main roster reserves taken out of empathy for his commitment but talent wise he's behind even Brissett, as well as Banton who wasn't invited to camp. Not to mention even Sharpe and Mathurin who are both rehabbing injuries.

To say oshae brissett is better than ejim is just ignorant, not everyone playing in the nba today is better than rotation players overseas who actually see the court and get playing time. Lyles is a score only power forward, not a very diverse skillset, not a strong post defender and not switchable. Ejim can guard 1-4 even at 6'6, brings way more experience to the table and is a better three point shooter overall. You also fail to realize that this will be a very tight rotation, with tons of small ball lineups that switch everything on defense. Lyles doesnt fit that at all. If he makes the roster thats fine, but understand youve presented no real case other than you thought fernandez was pulling strings to get lyles on the team.
SGA and Murray are a scary backcourt. Individual defense is not needed that much since the Olympics are played by FIBA rules and the court is smaller plus you don´t have the def. 3 second rule. But I guess you will need those dawgs against some guys
BTW, you made it sound like Canada won a medal in 2000. They didn't. They made it to the medal round which was amazing in and of itself but they didn't win a medal. The last time Canada won a medal in basketball was 1936.

Wiggins is old enough at 2028 as far as international compitation is concerned. Murray is already at the peak of his prime at this moment, he has injuries which make him slow two to three seasons from now in the NBA. Brooks cant guard neither the old curry, durant, kawai, lebron and other old players in the team USA. Team canada defeated team USA in this last fiba, yes they do but remember, that team canada is at their best players, while team USA is not even close compared to this USA team today as far as data is concerned. They're a very heavy favorite, that's for sure. Lower than gold is just not acceptable for American fans. Heck, even for basketball fans who don't have basketball teams in the Olympics.
The favorite are team USA because they are great at every position. Pretty much all their players are All-Stars. That doesn't make a good team, but they also have the experience of having played together in the past and winning together. France and Canada are also good but I feel like they lack team cohesion like the other teams, especially from eastern Europe. It was the greatness of Shay that took them to the bronze medal. He simply was the best player in the tournament.
I don't know if a medal is guaranteed this time around if I am being honest. Mathurin, sharpe, wiggins and eddey playing, I might say yeah.. but serbia, france and usa gotta be the strongest teams. Watching these warm up games with wemby and they look really scary and like a completely different team than in the fiba tournament previously. Every medal contending team has a naturalized citizen on their roster even Team USA (Embiid). Team Canada powers that be are operating in an analog manner while everyone else is working in a high speed digital world. Naturalizing someone like Jacob Poeltl would help Canada with their center issues. Olynyk and Powell try hard but those big European brutes just beat them up in the paint. Also, Edey may not be up to par. He couldn't do much of anything during FIBA World Cup. Team USA played him off of the floor, as well as the other non-NBA players on Team Canada. Rooting hard for Team Canada. Olympic basketball is FIBA type basketball and lets be honest Europeans are really strong in this type of game, physical and defensive. If you saw how Canada played last FIBA World Cup they are like an American team but plays Euro-ball mainly bec. of Jordi Fernandes coaching style who has a lot of Euro basketball background. And one advantage of this team is they have been playing together for more than 3 years, team chemistry will just be stronger in the future.
FIBA world cup US team had 4 people who are even considered all star level, and 8 people that were not. Also, the 4 people Halliburton, Brunson. Paolo, and Edwards never competed for any championship or any international championship, this was their first prior to 2024 FIBA Cup so the comparison is just not good.

Canadian men haven't medaled in the Olympics since 1936. They've been close since but nada. Our U18 won gold at the World's. Some of those players are on this squad. Our men's university team beat Charles Barkley & Karl Malone when Jack Donahue & Steve Konchalski were coaching. It's time Canada!

Rooting hard for Team Canada. Olympic basketball is FIBA type basketball and lets be honest Europeans are really strong in this type of game, physical and defensive. If you saw how Canada played last FIBA World Cup they are like an American team but plays Euro-ball mainly bec. of Jordi Fernandes coaching style who has a lot of Euro basketball background. And one advantage of this team is they have been playing together for more than 3 years, team chemistry will just be stronger in the future.
