These are the type of car videos I enjoy the most. No stupid hype talk. No stupid camera shot attempting to look cool. No stupid music in the background. Simply someone working to build a masterpiece. Outstanding, subscribed.
You can tell that you enjoy and respect the engine(s) you work on. Very professional and first class workmanship. The wife's cousin thinks he's a mechanic but he's always covered in thick dirty oil and never without a lump hammer in his hand. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos.
Why am I still watching this? ..answer ..this man is a true artisan ..I am not even into engine building ...electrician by trade..How anyone could give it a thumbs down is beyond me ..
That super clean shop, the precision of your work, and the quiet sound of just the work being done makes these videos a lot of fun to watch. I'm a new subscriber and I look forward to watching many more of these wonderful videos. Thank You!
It’s probably a Magical feeling working in a shop with complete silence. Every shop I’ve been in is just loud obnoxious chaos. I bet you find yourself finishing things faster because you can focus more
Love those subie engines I drove them since 80 es In 90 I built a homebuilt a plane using e81 with a reduction I run it at 4200 rpms it never gave me any problems now i an 72 and still drive them
Some people edit this stuff out, they talk too much and use short clips, I just sat and watched this craftsman perform magic, love seeing someone who knows what they doing making it look so simple, anyone who builds engines will understand.
Alles Liebe! Mach weiter so! LG
Professional touch putting all new threaded plugs in the block ! That oring'd head gasket is pretty trick. However I guess lubricating the O.D of the rear crank seal and cam seals will help it leave block when you need them the most !
@Floodle Doozie there's building a motor that makes 800hp, and then there is building a motor to make that day after day after day. Very different things. A bone stock motor is not going to handle actual race duty. I dont care who the motor comes from. being WOT and making power for 20+ minuets at a time requires allot more time and effort than adding boost and fuel to a stock motor. Might be ok for 1/4 mile stuff but no way it would be reliable on a rally stage.
The size of those shim buckets caught me off guard lol! I'm so use to the ones on my Yamaha R6 which are just a bit bigger than a quarter. Awesome video and thank you for sharing!
Nice, a guy who understands you don't get sloppy with sealant on subarus. With their ASE cert'd techs at the dealership repairing FA20s knew that, instead, most engines fail after their TSB work that removes the heads because sealant ends up blocking a water or oil port.
Really nice build. I learned quite a bit just watching it. I've never worked on any Subaru, never mind a boxer. And, beautiful shop. One could eat off the workbench.
You should look into vapour blasting, we use it at my work place. It makes old engines look brand new. You have to block every hole off and do some serious cleaning afterwards to make sure the glass doesn't get inside the engine but the result is well worth it. I feel like you should meet my boss haha, he builds engines like this, one of the best in my country.
I had no idea these motor were as complex as they are..... simple design in theory.... but this thing is complex as hell... but with great sophistication comes great power and durability....
You should work for a Subaru professional race team. You have the skill and are clearly very intelligent. Love your work super clean and beautiful tools. 👍⚙️🧰
Really great tutorial videos (both Pt 1 & 2). The nice addition might be to caption the screen with some torque specs and measurements. To go even further, the parts could be referenced to catalogue or supply codes. And the materials, lubes and similar could be mentioned as well. Nonetheless, very good and interesting video.
Marking bolts AFTER torquing doesn't guarantee none was overlooked. That would never pass inspection at Caterpillar, where I was an assembler for 46 years. We put a sponge in the torquing socket and put yellow paint on the sponge. Every bolt was marked as it was torqued. Engineering later decided to put a mark halfway across each bolt and a matching mark on the housing it went through. If any bolt's marks were still in line, bolt wasn't torqued.
@@laurieagnew6706 I'm a aircraft engineer by trade and have worked for two airlines and have never put any orange substance on a bolt...lots of lock wire though.
Wills Rings (UK) are used extensively on purpose-built race engines in place of a head gasket. They are hollow and typically filled with a material in a gaseous state.
I changed the passenger side valve cover gasket about 9 times and it still leaks, the cover is new with new screws. No cracks, everything normal, if I don't accelerate it doesn't leak anything. The problem is when I accelerate it starts to leak barely always from the weakest point which would be at the angle where the RTV is placed. The PCV valve is ok, and tubes ok. I wonder if the problem is that a lot of gases are generated in the valve cover but that would be very rare...
Im guessing that the black material you spread on the head bolts is an 'anti-sieze" compound. Which do you prefer? the Silver, copper or Moly based compounds? In most aerospace applications its the Copper anti sieze. It doesnt seem to break down or oxidize as easily as the others.

Hammering in seals with the perfect fit adapter and feeling it change pitch when it bottoms out is one of the most satisfying things ever.

hahaha yes sweet little Boxer engine
Nagyon kedvelem a műszaki tudományokat.Az új megoldások keresését, fokozottan szeretem !!!
I'm not an engine rebuilder nor a Subaru fan. But, this video is very well done. Clear, concise, and no stupid music - good job !

Spotted the phase one rallye in background!
Man I just saw the part 1 and wishing the part 2... and voila! So gorgeous engine and such a talent!!!
Excellent! Great to see quality workmanship like this. No wonder your subscriber base tripled in the few months since I found your channel.
I've always been a German engine guy meself, but those castings are works of sculpture. I bet the aluminum is proud to be a part of it. Nice assembly.
Love those o ringed heads. No reason to have random coolant issues except for a blown piston or rod taking a chunk with it’
Now I can rest assured that sardine can lid winders didn't go bankrupt after seeing that gasket maker tube winder. Love your videos.
Incredible workmanship. I never knew so much attention to detail went into building a rally engine.
I love the click of the torque wrench even when video is sped up 3x or 4x.

What a nice shop, all the cool tools, even a little brush to put the assembly lube on with. Precision job. I'm jealous.
Dein Tee wird kalt ;) Wieder sehr geile Arbeit, danke fürs mitnehmen
you can't blow headgasket if you don't have one :D
hahahaha
Just blow the side out of the head I guess...
da fuq? 🤔🤨😂😂😂
@Floodle Doozie yeah right... and stock 2jz can hold 1200 bhp...

Bravo !
I feel very satisfied watching you build these engine.

James May will love this

It matters what you do even when no one is looking. I wish you were located in the states.

I got a fever while watching this video, that's how sick it is

I never liked subis before but that is a beautiful engine with incredible engineering.
Haha! Loved the snap to put the right side head on the block!
I tried a hundred times here it didn't work no matter what!!! LOL

Großartig, goldene Hände!!
which ej is it? and are there big differences in disassembly from ej255?
Brilliant I just love the artistry.
Beautiful work. HEY, wait a mo, there's some dirt on the bench @ 0..50. Good to see him using a hammer.
Nice to see a job done with care.
Wurth tools, great choice!
nice to have proper tools to do the job well
Awesome job man nice video. 👍

800 HP just by adding some nuts and bolts. Impressive.
not quite... The deck is closed for one.
WOW amazing video, it's dumb but it's very relaxing watching yours rebuild videos!!
Best job in the world

@Subi-Performance
Maybe you could do a video on the cylinder rings and cylinder head rubber gaskets. I've never seen that before.
Is the yellow paint on the bolts to show if the engines been disassembled or to show if the bolts have come loose?
On aircraft they use an orange substance from bolt to body so presume it is the same here?
@@laurieagnew6706

Maybe I'm just used to backyard builds but can I don't think he broke the cookie jar 👍 I guess you win
Wow, you know what you are doing!
awesome video! and series. Thanks for making it, it will help me here in the future
5:40 - What are these rings for? Why are they being removed?
Assuming it helps with the head gasket seal around the cylinders?
You guessed it. Quite a few modern cars are using this kind of gasket for the cylinders
Symphony of assembliati in D minor Your a maestro
Noch richtig old school dieses viedeo.
Schöner Motor, die Buchsen sind interessant.
Fast wie ein porno 😅
We need more flat fours on the road, love that type..

The cylinder head gasket is neat. Is that a service you offer?
Interested in that combustion pressure port... Any other details on that?
I wanna know where he got the rear main and cam seal tools from.. they look super easy to install seals!
