Nothing more satisfying than making a tool. It's amazing how expensive even some of the most simple tools are when they are "specialized" for a particular job. Using those tools quite often, you almost always realize that there is one thing you would have made differently than the store bought tool. Taking that initiative to make your own and being able to change that one thing...yeah, I can appreciate the feeling.

Your inventiveness is a prime example of Yankee ingenuity at its best. Job well done.

Great job on the tool! I think I'm going to purchase one online for about $30 since I'm limited on time and can't make one before I'll need it in a few days. Again, great job, man!

Wow i love that, looks solid and reliable, your a clever man mr richpin :-))
It beats tapping the ring with a screwdriver or chisel in some cases lol. :-))
You remind me of my frend, he makes one off tools for those times where the professional ones are stupidly expensive or dont exist :-), he made a wheel bearing extractor for a bmw, it worked so well a local garage borrowed it :-))

You can also use a common jack stand, fortunately the legs on the stand reach perfectly around the top of the lock ring. And once you wedge it on the grip groves, give it a good jerk, a couple of times should brake it loose. I hope this helps out any one with a locked lock ring. GOOD LUCK.

You rent this tool at autozone. Initially, it cost $90, but when you return it you get all of your money back.

2008 Hyundai Sonata. It doesn't fit between the tank and the trunk (too tall). So it's either lower the tank and rent the tool again, try to improvise some other device, or simply power chisel it off like this guy did.ua-cam.com/video/TYnUAk2sXXkH/v-deo.htmlammer/screwdriver did not work.Pain in the @ss...
