    I'm sure someone may have mentioned but when you turn both pointers on it would be worth turning each upto full power before testing. As one may turn on at a slightly higher power level than the other. Point to note I hunt fine small gold nuggets and for sure the minelab pointer will see small gold better every time and I like the fact that it can handle emi and hot ground with a tiny gold fleck in. Both are great pointers so cost I guess is a consideration. Also if both are water resistant it would be great if they had coil add ons so you could shall snokle with them. I think the Nocta pointer has this option. But the plastic twist lock on them splits after a short time as I found with mine. Got to say I love my pro pointer and my old blue propointer I bought back in 2013 still works well ! Get end cap rubber tip protectors for your pointers they will last years then 😊

    Based on the test the carrot is the clear winner. I wouldnt count the retraction signal but rather when it first chimes which was closer i noticed. Personally i like the carrots mid range derection because once you go full throttle in some cases you cant tell which direction to dig. Interesting test thought. I thought the pro 40 would have won.

      @DirtBandit I'm not trying to be a jerk or anything, just offering my opinion as you did. I agree with you that on this particular test, the carrot was the winner, However, only by a slim margin, you have to admit, it was pretty darned close. I wasn't a fan of the retraction either, (he did do it for both) as I don't use retraction when checking a hole. Anyway, I just replaced my Pro-find 35 with the Pro-find 40 and given that the results from this test were so close, I think I'll just keep my 40 and keep checking holes... I feel that both units are comparable to each other and spending the extra money to get a carrot just for the sake of owning a carrot, would not be worthwhile. I ran a similar test myself without retraction, using the 35 and the 40, the 40 outperformed the 35 by at least 3/4" on some coins. It was money well spent in my opinion. Happy Hunting!!

    Did you have the sensitivity maxed out on the 40? It has 5 levels of sensitivity, so that's kind of an important detail.

    • @5280Adventures
      @5280Adventures  Рік тому +7

      Yes it was maxed out. I should’ve mentioned that. Thank you for asking.

    Truthfully, I generally opted for the carrot over my 35. After using the Pro-Find 40 for the last month, I've been holstering that one more and more. The ferrous tone ID combined with the increased sensitivity over the 35 has made the 40 a staple in my arsenal. Loving the rapid re-tune feature, too. It's definitely saved me a lot of time in highly mineralized ground. In conclusion, I've found that the 40 and the carrot are both great options - just a matter of preference at this point!

      Thank you for your HONEST assessment of both pinpointers. I can see both sides of the argument for both pinpointers and I absolutely agree that they are both great options. I dont think you can go wrong with either right now.

      @StefDigs Рік тому +2

      @@5280Adventures absolutely! I’d have done a carrot/40 comparison on my channel but it doesn’t feel right when I’m with Minelab, lol. The carrot served me well for many years. I am glad to have a pinpointer from Minelab that I truly prefer over the carrot now. 😊 Thanks for the review - this is what people really wanted to see!

    I’m not sure I understand your choice of ratings. The number I would’ve given each of those is when they first started detecting it not when they lost tone as you back the device up.

    The carrot in this test is the clear winner. Besides that, I like the orange on the tip over the black. Easier for my eyes to pinpoint where the target is.

    I’ve experimented with using a pinpointer in the goldfields off and on. Last year I bought a GPX6000 and on my last trip brought the carrot to try out. I will say it is a definite NO GO from an interference standpoint! Not sure if I would buy another pinpointer just for the gold fields, it’s really not necessary, but I would say that if I did, it would have to be the minelab just because of the anti interference features. Otherwise the carrot wins every other scenario.

    Very strange. I have a carrot and just got the minelab pointer as a freebie with the manticore. I was going to leave it in the box, but thought I'd do a test.
    Using a UK penny on edge it blew the carrot away by a good inch! Did you perhaps have out the box sensitivity set?

    Isn't the pinpointer a sidewalk detector anyway? Find the target with the detector and find it again with the pinpointer! I don't think having too many features is a good thing. Depth on pinpointer? discernment? iron removal? do you need it?

  • @toddhoffmaster6057
    @toddhoffmaster6057 2 місяці тому +1

    You didn't mention what the frequency both pinpointers are using. A test of the pinpointers coming at the coins from the side would be nice to see as well. I noticed when you turn them on they might be too close to the target, I say that because my Nokta Accupoint will discriminate whatever it is near when turned on.

    just got one for free with Gold Monster...
    interested in the video to see the difference between your use and mine...
    now that I learned something, the Pro 40 has additional settings for Ferrous and nonFerrous metals.
    if you held down the plus button for 3 seconds it would have responded better to the silver and copper.
    also the Pro 40 has a rapid pretune for Ground balancing.

    I went down this road a couple years ago, tried a bunch of different PP'ers. Garrett won, hands down. I'm no fan-boy, I want the best... I've been using the carrot since. It was sensitivity for me. I liked the iron audio of the ML but the garrett had better sensitivity. Great vid!

    To be a fair test the pinpointers should be powered on farther away from the coins. Powering on near a metal object decreases the sensitivity.

    Hey brother you must like the carrot because you didn't tell us what level of sensitivity of the mine lab this is a very flawed test how do I know your using the highest sensitivity on the 40 we don't you could be using low sensitive on the 40 so yes the carrot will win.. put the 40 on high sensitivity and then set the discrimination for the iron tones the 40 blows the carrot away

    can you preload the profind like you can with the carrot. I use a screw driver slide it alongs side of the back end until the it starts to beep. Then back off until the carrot quiet down. You can find coins 3" to " inches deep in the soil

    Great comparison, Tony. I use both the Garrett Carrot Z-Lynk (PPAT-Z) and the MI-6 wirelessly (thru the headphones). Both perform similarly in the field, with maybe a slight sensitivity advantage to the Carrot. I give the PPAT-Z a better score when it comes to linking with the headphones at power-on. The MI-6 sometimes requires a couple of power cycles to get it to link to the detector.

    I really enjoy the compare videos. I only have 2 detectors. Ones the AT Max with the carrot. Then my Fisher gold bug 2. There's a lot of stuff our there to try and choose from. Videos like these really help to narrow down my choices.
    I like my Fisher. Just wish it was completely water proof.

    • @5280Adventures

      It would depend on the type of field you are in. In a high iron area, I wouldnt want highest sensitivity as it would pick up everything in the hole. If there is one target in the hole, as higher sensitivity would be best.
