Its a week in the life video here while we are celebrating the fourth of July! We will prepare for the fourth by making red white and blue popsicles and doing a grocery haul for party and food supplies. Then we will be getting ready and celebrating July Fourth as a family. Then we have a couple more days where I just take you along for some normal weekday activities like doing fun activities with the kids and putting together a new desk for me! I chat with you all along the way of course! Thank you of rocking along for this week in my Orthodox Jewish life!

LOVE the picture behind you of the man with the fiddle. Reminds me of one of my favorite movies in the world, "Fiddler on The Roof" (1971). When I taught Drama in High School, I used that movie as an example of a story (book), made into a stage musical, which then became a movie. They also learned a little Russian history about the Jews being expelled from Russia. We also talked about the importance of "traditions" in our families, our communities, our lives in general. I’m not from the US so 4th of July isn’t celebrated by many but I remember loading a locker with someone’s grocery order the next day (5th here is 4th for you) and thinking “oh hey my American friends will be celebrating”. I’m no longer in that job as my health took a slide but I know that all happens as the Father means it to. Much love from New Zealand 🇳🇿

At 3:15 the key to ANY summer party with kiddos- Bubbles. Also I love that you're partnering up with Blueland! We pretty much exclusively use them for cleaning products and hand soap in our house! Love the idea of freezing the extra fruit from the popsicles in ice cube trays-I'd honestly love to use them in a glass of iced tea or lemonade (potentially a cocktail lol) It looks like you guys had a successful holiday! :D

Sooooooo hot in your neck of the woods. Some friends from the Dallas area are up here in Wisconsin. We live a stone’s throw from Lake Michigan which keeps our temperature today in the seventies. Super cute popsicles! I need one of those molds for my grands.
I just got home from spending the weekend at my family’s reunion. It was so wonderful seeing and spending time with family that we haven’t seen for several years. We went through pictures and items from my grandparents (they have both passed) and I brought home some photos and mementos.

Sounds like a wonderful time! I definitely recommend the popsicle molds. I run a little hot water on the outside when I’m ready to remove them and the come right out. Always a hit with the kids and much healthier than store bought!

Hi Chana! Thank you once again for inviting us into your home. Yes, it has been so hot in the South! We went to Detroit over July 4th to visit friends, and it was 85 degrees and maybe 70% humidity. The people were complaining about how hot it was! I was like, y’all don’t know hot! 😂 Keep cool, and I hope this breaks soon!

Fun thing to make for family to eat. Purchase lime sherbet, raspberry sherbet and mini M&M’s.
Allow the lime sherbet to soften then Pat it into a bowl to make it look like the rind of a watermelon. Then take softened raspberry sherbet mix in mini chocolate chips.
Fill bowl that you put lime sherbet in. Place in freezer for the sherbet to freeze. Run outside of bowl under water. Put bowl upside down on a plate so you can’t see the raspberry sherbet only the lime sherbet. It should look like a half of a watermelon. Slice into wedges. And you have watermelon looking sherbet wedges.
My children enjoyed this when they were growing up, hope you family enjoys them like we did.
When my grandchildren would spend the night we would make colored pancakes for breakfast. Through the years we’ve made all sorts of colors. As time went on we even made swirled pancakes by dropping a few drops of a couple of colors and lightly stir the pancake mix a couple of times(not enough to mix the colors into a solid color).

I look forward to your videos every Monday. It’s like visiting a friend. I’m on the north shore of Lake Ontario up here in Canada. It’s a beautiful summer day here. We are getting smoke from forest fires north of us so I have to stay indoors because my skin reacts to the irritants in the smoke. I’m a volunteer researcher for an animal advocacy organization so that accounts for some of my week. My grandson and I do art together at least once a week. We just finished doing some fundraising so my grand daughter could study ballet in Denmark this summer. It was quite successful and you helped, Chana! We put together and sold some bundles of things we made including boxes that look like books! We also included hand stencilled canvas bags and our hand poured soap. It was a great success! We raised over $700 for our ballerina!

Whew! So busy. We have had torrential rain and flooding. We are in Connecticut for a couple of months caring fir a family member that had surgery. Vermont flooded badly cars were under water! But our fourth of July was great, rain held off. Quiet Monday always thinking what is for next meal next load if laundry etc. ah to be s kid again. Have a great week.

Hello Chana, wow, I'm exhausted just watching your week. I've forgotten what it is like with a houseful of littles. Glad you got the laundry done (mostly) 😉 Love how Baby Firefly bee lines for the camera whenever he gets the chance. So enjoy your videos and learning more about your faith. As I've mentioned before, I'm Lutheran and I love learning about more about other faiths and beliefs. Also love the food and appreciate when you share recipes. Have trouble with some of them as I'm a widow and don't need to be eating the same thing for the entire week. Some I can pare down and those that I can freeze I'm okay making a large batch. Enjoy your new desk and a new place for you to organize and work.

I'm discombobulated having the fridge in the dining room and 1/2 the kitchen to work in. No washer/dryer for the foreseeable future. BUT! I don't have 4 young ones to care for so, yeah. Shavua Tov Chana! Nice to see another video of the Jar of Fireflies tribe ;) The blue spaghetti and Octopi sausages are really cute. Here for the 4th we had grilled lamb with semoule and grilled veggies. I also served a chilled TX peach salad with ice cream. With this heat I'm glad we got a massive outdoor fan 🥵 I see that Bella was helping you while installing your desk 😉 Hope all your kiddos are feeling better. There must have been some bug roaming around as I remembered several people being under the weather that week when I attended Shacharit at my synagogue. Have a wonderful rest of the week.
Hello Rivkah Malka! So glad you enjoyed :) The peaches and ice cream sound delicious! What do you put in your peach salad? It sounds like something I need in my life! Bella's favorite spot in the house is at my feet under the desk looking at the squirrels out the window lol
@@jaroffireflies As a dessert I typically prep the peach salad the day prior this way it gives time for the peaches to create some nice juice and they taste better when served chilled. I then add a bit of lemon juice to enhance the peach flavor. Other than that, I add sugar to taste and some crumbled roasted pecans. If you'd like to try it as side dish, then a nice vinaigrette using balsamic vinegar and olive oil, a bit of arugula is also a nice option. You can grill the peach some. I also use roasted nuts and if we don't have meat, you ca add some crumbled cheese of your choice. 😋

We also enjoyed hot dogs for the Fourth. We are not a fan of fireworks either, how does Bella deal with the noise? The blue pasta looked fantastic! What a great idea! I have done the octopus hot dogs before served with goldfish crackers, but the blue pasta! I can't wait to do that! As always a pleasure to watch and learn....
Luckily by us there isn't a lot of firework noise. I hear a little, but only from neighbors and not form the big shows in the area. So Bella has been fine with it which I am very glad about. She's such a happy pup :)

It will never go well on Israel, too many post-traumatic people.
Usually the city hall have a firework show. on recent year many City Halls decided to make a silent firework show or a laser show instead.

Chodesh Tov! I had a similar religious experience as you did as a youth. At about 25 years of age I realized that I saw Judaism in a grandiose form. My only problem is that an Orthodox conversion is difficult. It is not easy for me to get into a Jewish community. I may have a Reform conversion.

Chana, I ended up sitting with the adults at my parent's 4th of July celebration. I was with my aunt and her friend, and my aunt's sister and her husband. I ate way to much though.

The popsicles turned out beautifully. Great 4th of July celebration. I’m not a fan of fireworks, huge money for a few minutes of fun. I wonder what the people who are struggling make of all that money going up in smoke literally. I feel it’s such a waste.

When the fourth of July lands on Shabbat, do you still do hotdogs? I know you said that you keep your shabbat meals only for Shabbat so that they stay special, but what about 4th of July? Sorry, I'm not from the States and barely celebrate Canada day as it is. We are not as patriotic as you are :)
Great question! If the Fourth of July fell on Shabbat, we would just celebrate on Sunday instead :)

Its really not so bad. Its just a normal Texas summer :) We stay inside a lot during the summers but we have been enjoying plenty of pool days!
