In this day in the life video I will be taking you through our Friday Shabbat prep as an Orthodox Sephardi Jewish family. We will prepare food, I will chat with you, I will share recipes for yummy sephardi foods with you like bourekas, prepare flowers for our table, and of course just in general take you along throughout this day in my life (DITL) as I prepare for Shabbat as a Sephardic Orthodox Jewish mom.

Why do you refer to your videos as Sephardic when you are a convert and not from that area? Also better help has unlicensed therapists and a bad reputation which you may or may not have known about

@jaroffireflies question what do jew believe happen after death becouse I heard a rabbi say you guys have few different beliefs what happen after death and I heard different sect have different beliefs?
I'm so glad you homeschool. I'm a teacher and I find public schools becoming more and more shocking each year. Homeschooling is the best way to make sure your kids' minds are protected from evil and that they learn about God.

I had the same overwhelmed moment you described....everyone in my home seemed to come up with something for me to do before 7am, and I was ready to scream. I looked at my prayer book and made the saddest face ever, but was glad for those "talk with G-d moments" in the midst of tha keep me in check. Its all a form of ministry we are doing for our families. Be encouraged, and I pray G-d continues to renew and strengthen you. You are amazing, and you are doing a wonderful job. I know your family appreciates you and all you do to make your home a warm place❤

TOAST!!! Lol I was yelling at my TV because when I run out of breadcrumbs I use toast and then blend it in my chopper and mix the seasoning, just as good! Happy Birthday Baby Firefly!🎉🎉🎉

Chana, that wasn't noise in the background, that was your children making memories by playing, talking and laughing. I personally had no problem with hearing your children play. They are kids and play is part of learning.
I’m sure folks don’t mind, y’all are all just so wonderful! But for me it can be pretty distracting while I’m trying to focus on filming :)
Goodness. Knowing you have to do something but can't pin down what to do first is such a mood.

I did exactly the same recently, preparing chicken strips thinking I had breadcrumbs in my cupboard! I ended up putting a few slices of bread in the oven til crispy and bashing them with a rolling pin as I don’t have a blender to crumb them. I did put them in a plastic bag first which makes it easier. We all have those moments when we have to make do.

My day is going good. We went to a grocery store and my daughter picked her potato chips( ruffles sour cream and onion this time) and bean dip in the sad dented can that she loves😂.
Monday I go to the dermatologist. Hoping no skin cancer this time
Tues is HUGE for us…. I had colon conplication and emergency surgery 10 months ago and finally will see the GI dr who is a classmate of my husbands. AND
Court for my husband to see a judge with our legal team we hired for almost 6k to fight for gaurdianship of our now 18 year old medically fragile daughter. We need this for insurance and to help her see drs etc. this is not for any benefits. We have been told her syndrome is too rare and her iq too high in our state so no $. But we need gaurdianship. Praying it all works out. We trust Gods will❤❤❤

Today has been rather hectic but I can't complain. So far I've managed to get most of my food prep ready for the holiday tomorrow and I've even gotten a chapter written so I think maybe I thrive in chaos. I don't know. It's working so we're just going to go with it.

I'm going to a psychologist and she is amazing, I'm really happy I've found her. Today I filled out a list of things that I enjoy doing or would enjoy doing, and one of them was "going someplace with my kids where they can explore" and I was just thinking, that would be amazing. And in this video, the thumbnail already, I thought to myself: "The yellow outfit for baby firefly is so cute!" 🥰 I can't wait to have kids one day and get them their own cute yellow outfits 💛 (It is my favourite colour!)

I cannot believe baby firefly is ONE. My cousin’s kiddos turned one (twins) a couple months ago and they just did a small family party which was so nice.

@@jaroffireflies I know you think you get use to it and in second I would need to go to the the grocery store to get away. I’d didn’t need anything. I walked up and down every isle for 15-20 minutes of pure peace. 😂 it sounds crazy now, but we do deserve a moment, sometimes just to pull our head back together.

One old story to add. One night our power went out. I remembered Mr. Firefly's recipe for Moroccan Fish and made it in the dark. Thanks for that! I remember early motherhood. It seems to go on forever and then you look back and it's gone in a flash! You are doing great!

We are now official in summerbreak now, in my case that means seeying my kids less than during school, because of going away with friends, going to their dad, working, going camping with my parents. .. but I have teenagers, so totaly different story. Can I say that sometimes I am jealouse of people who truly believe, you saw the change after your talk with God. You saw the peace it gave you. And i really love that for you. Hello my friend! I know that those sorts of days have been experienced by most of your followers but I still have them too. The joy is getting to the end and having the tasks completed. How good it is for you to see the calm beauty of that table, set and with flowers. Even a single rose cut from the garden has brought joy to my heart after feeling overwhelmed. I especially like The Secret Garden quote vase - where did you find that? Was that vase for your daughter's flowers? Oh, and I also remember the shock of realising that Iris could get in to the pantry - Baby Firefly is making his mark on the world! I also noticed at the end that your scarf has pretty sparkly embroidery on it. How nice to know that is there, adorning you throughout the day. The colour really suits you. Thank you for the video despite what you had to manage.

We were antiquing here in CA a few days ago and my husband found a prayer book for a society of Rabbis with a woman’s name on the cover. It’s got the English and Hebrew and it reminded me of you and the one you use! It is from the 50s and looks brand new so I’m sure it wasn’t her daily book 😁

Blueberries have definitely been grown commercially in East Texas. You might need to work on getting the pH of the soil right, but I bet you can do it, if it's truly important to you.

Idk about you, Chana, but for me breadcrumbs always seem to be the one item in my pantry that somehow I don't take stock of ... so after at the very last moment having been caught breadcrumb-less way too many times to make chicken cutlets -- when I've got the bowl with beaten eggs and the bowl with Wondra flour set up, and then in the pantry I go for the crumbs and they've vanished -- I found myself buying a canister of breadcrumbs every time I went grocery shopping, whether I need them or not .. and one day when I was making chicken cutlets again (they are a staple in our Italian household) I went into my pantry closet and found like 7 canisters of them. I think breadcrumbs are not really one of those food items that are used very often but they're definitely a very important item when needed. I have that same issue with ketchup, too .. we've run out with no back-up stock. So once again, my MO is to buy a ketchup bottle every grocery trip, and now I've got a half-dozen bottles of Heinz in my lazy-susan cabinet (which I call the spinny cabinet). One day soon I'll get it together and be back on track with the breadcrumb and ketchup situation, I have faith 🙃
Yes breadcrumbs seem to be something I never write down but always need lol
When you buy stuff, you should always buy 2 or 3 so you have them on hand especially breadcrumbs, olives, ketchup, mustard, rice, anything you use quiet often. Dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, furniture polish, glass cleaner, always 2 or three, it’s expensive in the beginning but so worth it. breadcrumbs, nuts and coffee work well in the freezer.

Love the video, as always! I have a GREAT recipe for roasted veggies. Works for asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli -- anything that you roast. Roast your veggies about halfway through. While they're roasting, mix butter (or soy butter), wholegrain mustard and the juice and zest of a lemon in a saucepan over medium-low heat until the butter melts. Take the veggies out, drizzle with the sauce and roast for another 5 or 10 minutes. Absolutely easy, and goes with everything, especially if you have a really rich meat dish. The lemon and mustard cut through the richness. It's one of my go-to favorites and it's popular everywhere I've taken it. Shabbat Shalom!

Baruch Hashem, Shabbat gets done in time. How do you heat the barachas for dinner or lunch the next day? Baby Firefly is so vocal and active.
Indeed it does! To re-heat, we put them on the hot plate for a bit. They get warm and taste fresh out of the oven!

"And that's okay." I have been trying to remember this mantra for my life right now. Major water damage under the house due to a water heater leak that wasn't reported or noticed when it was inspected before we bought. Bummer days. But homeowners insurance should take care of it. Kitchen, and both bathroom floors on that side are sagging horribly but I never knew what was happening. And that's okay 😀 I want your chicken to eat right now, but I'll wait for my chicken that is still defrosting. Please remember that the background noise isn't a bother unless you can't concentrate with it. I know I would have that issue if I were trying to film but viewers of this are probably like me!
