My apologies if this comparison took a bit of time. Buy hey I've been busy lately. Anyway enjoy Kat Ranger/ DekaSwan first appearance.

The morphing is timed right, that's the most important one.
I always liked the Sentai morphs over the PW ones for Spd or TimeForce.
But remember, not everything from the Sentai was all that great, okay?! Remember Ninninger?! Go-Busters?! Toqger?! Goseiger?!
Yeah that's why I only pointed out 2, even Sentai gets too campy sometimes.
Chiko was here I know. But, all we can do now is just expect for things to get better for both franchises in the future. I mean, with the upcoming MMPR movie reboot coming out next year, and Ninja Steel, and the rumors about the next sentai being a "space-themed" tv series, which I highly doubt that it would actually be a space-themed sentai series, I guess we shouldn't have so much to worry about, for now anyways.

As a kid this was awesome. As a teen it became cheesy. Now as an adult I appreciate it a whole lot more for the work that was put in and effort they made to actually make these shows watchable even by todays standards.
Ye know, from the colour scheme of her Ranger suit, this technically makes Kat the first official Orange Power Ranger.

I never really noticed how genius it was to have Freeza's voice actor play Abrella. Considering their similar trades.
The end at American version was smart, funny and cute.
The end at Japanese version was sweet,lovely and smart too.

Rewatching this I really appreciate the wire work for the SPD fight. That upward propeller kick at 2:53 is pretty sick.
I think I prefer the regular form of Kat Manx to Dekkaswan, but their Doggie Kruggeris a smidge better than the SPD version.
5:27 is bizarre. Power Rangers has Japanese text while the Super Sentai version has an English UI. XD

Gotta hand it to the PR version here, Kat Ranger's transformation was more interesting than Deka Swan's. Although Sentai won the roll call here.
I don't know about that, Swan's transformation felt more elegant to watch.

You need to realize that she supposed to be a swan and not a cat right?
I prefer the SPD action scenes (Kat hissing and kicking ass was VERY entertaining), and the Dekaranger emotional ending that kinda strongly hints at the Swan/Doggie ship. While the SPD one was funnier and overall more "tame" than the Dekaranger one, the Dekaranger conclusion carried more emotional impact. That and I would have preferred to see Kat do the MacGuffin part with more emphasis on an intellectual activity (Swan did, likely, quantum mathematics with an abacus in seconds - Kat could've done something similar in her head with some back-and-forth with Moonman, like literally hacking the power source's control mechanism instead of just inputting a shutdown code).
Overall, though, this was my favorite SPD episode, and it looks like I would've liked the Dekaranger version just as much.
I don't quite get it. In the adapted version they take away all the rude stuff, but the judgment scene is so beatiful in Sentai, with a good learning at the end, and they still changed it to a very mean judgment in USA. Kind of ironic.
It's a minor detail, dude. It's nothing personal. Besides, they have to give one filler episode focusing on Kat's character being a ranger for one day since, unlike Swanny over here in the sentai....she ain't no dumbass in distress. Much like every other dumbasses in distress such as Bella Swan from the Twilight franchise, Burt Ward's "Robin" from the Adam West Batman TV series, Jubilee from the X-Men animated TV series, Scrappy-Doo from the Scooby-Doo franchise, Olive Oil from the Popeye franchise, Lois Lane from the Superman DC comics and Willie Scott from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Besides, do you really want this season to be more like a translation of the sentai, note-for-note to the point, where it's an obvious copying and pasting much like Samurai/Super Samurai is to Shinkenger and Megaforce/Super Megaforce is to both Goseiger and Gokaiger?!

I don't think is a minor detail. The purpose of adapting this series was to make it more appropriate to children, that's why they stripped away all the rude or too violent stuff. Yet, even though Sentai has a great ending for this episode, they just went along with a "fuck off, you criminal" conclusion, which I think is more rude than the original ending. That's where the irony lies, they did the opposite to what they've been doing.
RRE Designs both shows are for children, its about whats appropriate in each culture

I am having problems to decide which ending for this episode i like more, the SPD one is funny and charming but the Dekaranger one is really sweet. Also ironically the fight scene in SPD have more artial arts and less effects than the one in dekaranger lol

But yeah, I mean Swan's focus episode in Dekaranger was okay, but...I just kind of liked it better, if she wasn't just a typical damsel-in-distress for her character. It's why I actually prefer Myuki Ozu (Magi Mother) as the better extra heroine in Magiranger a lot more than Swan. Still, I kind of wish that Kat did morphed into the Kat Ranger for one more final battle though. Same with the Nova Ranger. Oh well...

Neo-Xgray87 Honestly i need to rewatch operation overdrive, the only flaw i found the first time i watched the show was the battle scenes and the pacing were really bad and even then i found the season to be ok. Can you tell me the things you didn't like about operation overdrive? xD
Loru Fangs Only things that I didn't like about Operation Overdrive are the pacing and editing of the fight scenes, the opening rap theme song *shivers!*, the villain factions, except for the FearCats, Thrax from "Once A Ranger", Will, Ronny, *DAX!!!*, Tyzonn, Mack and Mr. Hartford's horrendous acting. I mean, really, these guys were terrible at hiding their respective Austrailian and New Zealand accents. And of course....the "oh-so" infamous amount of Kalishplosions in the background of every...single....fight scene in Operation Overdrive. Seriously, somebody actually did a head count of how many Kalishplosions were seen in Operation Overdrive...over 200 Kalishplosions were used in the entirety of all 32 episodes of Operation Overdrive. 200 Kalishplosions in one season, that's like 1 and 1/2 Michael Bay background explosions in most of his movies.
Oh and the Overdrive team quitting after losing one battle in "Once A Ranger" and decided "Oh they missed being Power Rangers because their lives are boring and they just want be Power Rangers again because the loved playing with all the new toys that Mr. Hartford gave them". Seriously, there is a reason why most of the fandom thinks that this team of Power Rangers *suuuuuuck!!!!* in comparison to their predecessors and successors, except for the Megaforce/Super Megaforce Rangers since they're like the most easiest competitors against the Overdrive team in their own department of manufactured "character development". LMAO!!!
But yeah, Operation Overdrive is like the Power Rangers equivalent of "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace" and "Batman & Robin" and Megaforce/Super Megaforce is like "Blues Brothers 2000" meets "M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender" of Power Rangers.
I appreciate that Kat did some brawling before morphing. It's like a warm up before the main dish.

Ok, I got some mixed thoughts here. Although I would prefer SPD over DekaRanger, but this episode though, although I have not watched the DekaRanger variant because Kat Manx had better screen time on this one but Heimal had a proper conclusion via finally realizing how Swan was better than him. Which that conclusion was not done for Mooney.
The fact they made her character a cat in America, is something that I felt like that would be something the Japanese would do, because anime properties love cats, but they made her a swan princesses.
The Japanese version or the American one about the princess?
The two endings of this episode is like alternate endings to a video game were you got to do something to get the real ending.

I think the reason for making her go from swan to cat is because of her helmet looking like a cat more than a swan.
that's what i think why cam is a samurai in ninja storm because he looks and fights like a samurai.
It's just to fit their character Kat who is a cat alien. A meaningless change that was needless but the cat makeup on the actress was cute.

You know what? I prefer Swan over Kat, why? Because she uses her brain to disperse the reactor energy using math, rather than finding a deactivation code. Also she doesn't do excessive fighting stunts as she just knows the basics on how to defend herself when in need. The character is kinda nerdy in both versions, so the stunts and the extra fighting scenes in the american version are out of tone with the character's way of doing things.
It's not really out of Kat's character. There was an episode previously where she held off 2 goons before she got kidnapped.

It's more of a Japanese thing then a Dekaranger thing. Thankfully not all Japanese shows do that, but those that do do it ALL THE TIME, with announcing and labels for introduction of characters, moves, and whatnot. I think it's because it's hard to tell the meaning of the names without the characters.
I'll take that over the changing of Dekaswan to a cat ranger. That hissing is the dumbest.
Uh...have you even seen Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, the character of JTC/Kamen Rider Strike also did the hissing there when he changed into his rider form. So, how is that any different from this?!
All I meant was in the Sentai she's a Swan that doesn't hiss and in Power Rangers they made her in to a cat design and idea. No I haven't seen much Kamen Rider. You seem to be confused on what I'm annoyed by. Also it's different from this because Kamen Rider clearly made a character that hisses. In this it's the western adaptation that made a character that does that. Like I said you seem to be confused.
I just realized, in the American version she presses the space bar. In the Japanese version she presses the enter key which should be the correct way to do it.

I really wish they used Omega and the other female Ranger better in this season. They didn't even use the other female one until the very last episode
I didn't really like Omega since he bearly did anything. He didn't get any character development. Dekabreak was a better handled character. But I do agree that they could of used Dekalight better.
Well, that's because the SPD Nova Ranger's sentai counterpart was just a one-off guest character and obviously, they didn't have enough time to adapt the sentai footage that featured the Nova Ranger in action since she's basically the Omega Ranger's superior in that episode. But, yeah, it would've been cool if they actually did give Sam an actual morphing sequence and have his voice actor appear outside of his ranger suit. Same for Nova. But, whatever. I'm actually okay with what they could do with SPD, so far. Still, I wonder if this season will get a possible movie adaptation in the near-future.

Chiko was here Well, that's because they wanted to create a sixth ranger for Lightspeed Rescue, just to go "back to basics" in trying to recapture that same MMPR nostalgia for new fans in the year, 2000 and because GoGo-V never had a sixth ranger. But yeah, I guess the reason why they worked with the Titanium Ranger in Lightspeed Rescue is because they were on a tight budget and they could only do some much for the character in so little time. Now, in SPD, they had the budget. But, unfortunately, Disney didn't want to advertise new toys for more than sixth rangers in the show because they thought that the Shadow Ranger was the official sixth ranger, but *NOPE!!!!* in came the Omega Ranger who were the roman number VI on his outfit. So yeah... and to quote and impersonate Michigan J. Frog, *BLAME IT ALL ON THE SENTAI!!!!!*

Just look at the feathers, and it'll be that much more obvious that she's a swan.

See, it's that kind of thinking that gave us Megaforce. Prioritizing action and exhibition over actual storytelling killed the show completely.

That was best costume they had for their budget in sentai. Doesn't matter really, besides Doggie actually looks like he fits in the world of Dekaranger along with the other aliens.

It would be a lot better, IMO, if you could also get subs for the American stuff. That way, it wouldn't matter if the Sentai footage is also speaking at the same time.
Maybe get the subs from a sub site, and then bake them into the whole video, and only after that make your cuts?

I like the Sentai one better. The transformation sequences are better and more stylized. Feels rushed in the English adaptation. Also the hissing was kinda dumb.
