I’m planning to retire my 4 year old GX 1x11 and swap to an Eagle GX. Great video. Will Be keeping my old cranks and getting an aftermarket 32T chainring. Just couldn’t be bothered to replace my old GX crank arms and GXP BB as they’re still good.

@@LoveMTB It is years between my bike upgrades and this last jump to the new geometry, 1x12, and dropper seat has been fantastic! Fantastic video. Very informative and outstanding camera work. My one worry with the eagle is that extra long cage. I'm already smashing my XT long cage more than I'd like to admit. 😔 You'll have to let me know how yours does through rock gardens.
Alternatively put the chain on the chainring and the smallest cog and then pull it untill the deraileur is tensioning the chain and then cut it there, that way you have the longest chain possible and dont have to worry about the suspension and it runs a lot smoother!

Just got SRAm EAgle on a new bike coming from XTR 3 x 10. I find that the Shimano shifts to the smaller cogs much faster. Maybe its due to the closer gears or does XTR actually force the cable out and Sram just releases? Not sure but am surprised because no one else has really mentioned noticing this.
Bought ten speed gx, it shifted poorly and then broke 2 weeks later, wasn't impressed. Ordered shimano Saint de railer and shit it's good, amazing shifting and no chain slap on my enduro rig, had to move down to a 32 tooth rear cog so have to sacrifice a little but I would say it is worth it, will be going xtr next year and hope that will be as good. I wanted to like sram but so many problems I just can't.
How does it perform while shifting under load? Is it better than a GX shifter on that matter? Is it silent or do you still feel the pain when you perform the shift specially moving to bigger cogs in the cassette?
Xtr has a clutch, is it really important adding 2 extra links in the chain? Also, shimano recommends 9mm bscrew gap for cassettes larger than 42t, not sure if the 15mm gap is specific to eagle.
you must have some real big hills you only run a 32 tooth oval chain ring you should be able to run a 34 oval ring and still have plenty of climbing range nate hills runs a 36 chain ring with his xo1 50tooth cass what year is your fuel ex nice color

But, I don't need to replace my 32T chainring or cranks, correct?
@@LoveMTB Cool! thanks for the suggestions. Pricing that out now! Curious - why that group vs the SRAM GX? Probably value for price. That cassette looks great! Do I need a new hanger (or is that specific to the bike and not the derailleur)?
Does your chainring contact the chain stay? I see some marks on your bike right there, that I have also noticed on my bike after I switched to a larger front chainring. My chainring does not look like it has run into the frame, but the frame does!

I have a 29 inch Cube LTD 2014 mountain bike fitted with slick tires that I want to dedicate exclusively to asphalt riding, and I wanted to have the 12X1 described in the video but with bigger gears. So the question is if I can use the Sram gx eagle groupset, but instead of the gx eagle crank and ring, install a Sram Rival 1 X-Sync 10-11 speed Compact GXP crankset with a 50 tooth chainring. This ring also has the narrow wide profile of the teeth, so I think it should work with the 12 speed chain. The set up would take a rather long chain to accommodate a potential 50/50 pairing, but assuming that there are no clearance issues with any part of the bike frame, is this feasible? Thanks!
The upgrade without the x-sync 2 won't give the real benefits of the system like the low friction and the great chain retention. And for those who have the spider cranksets, it is available the 104bcd chainring.
Don't believe all the marketing hype. The real benefit of this system is the 500% range (which you get with any chainrings) not the friction or chain retention that cannot really be quantified... of course SRAM will make up stories because they would like you to buy their new crankset or $80 chainrings. If you read mtbr or any other forums you will see that Eagle works with any NW chainrings.
I think it's not a belief question, but Engineering development, and real improvement that can be felt by any amateur rider. And be atempt to the cold forged GX chainrings, they're no more $40 expensive.
I'd be surprised if your statement - "real improvement that can be felt by any amateur rider" - could be proved to be true. I'm very skeptical about the marketing statements as if they were true Eagle shouldn't even work with other than X-Sync 2 chainrings - and it's definitely not the case... Btw in Europe the cheapest GX chainrings start from 55€. I'm not saying don't buy/use them but they are less miraculous than you might think and a 3rd party NW chainring for half price can be just as good.
Tamas Varga thats the question I was asking to people, finally aswered ... I will keep my 34t Sram 11speed chainring without worries and save U$92. Thanks !
Great video! So the 50T goes out of sync only on the stand? Please update this as the miles pile up if you have any out of sync issues while out on the trail...... I just don't understand how this 'out of sync' thing got past SRAM, be it only on the stand or otherwise.
I've probably put about 90 miles on my GX Eagle, and have had no issues. I'm a mechanic at a shop. The trick with these is to get the B-limit perfect in the stand, then you will have no issues on the trail. Mine has worked flawless everytime.
Why would you add 4 chain links on a hardtail and only 2 on a fully? Aren't the added links used to compensate for the movement of the rear suspension? On a hardtail, there is no movement at all, so there are no variables. Can you please explain? :)
what is the rear axle spacing on that trek bike? some what off the subject, what is the most cogs I can fit on a 135mm spacing that has a 8 speed cassette? if I change the entire wheel and drivetrain how big can I go, number of cogs?
I feel your knee pain. I just got a new bike with gx 1x11. I had a 2x10 which got me up most of the hills I wanted to get up easily, the 1x11 is like being 3 rings down on the rear cassette of the 2x. Is there a cheaper swap that I can do on my 1x 11 can I take off the 42 and put in a 44+?
Got it all installed today, but I’m temporarily using my old GX 11 speed chainring while waiting for the Gx12 speed ring to arrive. I found that the chain is creaking when I am pedalling under load, on the larger cogs. Do you know what could be the problem? Is the chain not meshing properly due to me using an old (4 years) chainring?
Wondering...does that 32 tooth non Eagle chain ring hold the chain on like a genuine SRAM Eagle ring? Did you know that was a feature of the genuine SRAM Eagle complete drivetrain?
are no space problems when you change from 11 to 12 speed at rear? i thought i also have to change the rear hub aswell?! at least when i want to change from 10 to 12?
I have a 2018 Trek Fuel EX 8 which comes with 1x12 GX Eagle, but the bike didn't come with the spacer tool. What is the correct technique to adjust the distance using the B screw without the spacing tool?
Do you think the 36t will fit in fuel ex 8 29er eagle by putting spacer so the chainrinf will move rightward and the will not get rid to the frame although the factory said it max can fit is 32t. Pls answer
The Bike Store told me the durability should be much better.... I used it under poor conditions & there were several rust issues....The XX1 has a protection or layer?
Nice video, I tried installing my GX Eagle Derailleur today and noticed when I adjust the high limit screw it won't go any further to the right hand side and is off by a few mm, any idea why this might be?
Thanks for replying, I haven't attached the shifter cable yet, could it be the hanger is not aligned correctly even though it's a brand new frame? I'm guessing it's unlikely the derailleur is a dud however when the high limit screw is adjusted as far as it can go it comes into contact with the arm which isn't good.
This is a million times better than the official Sram installation video. So much clearer and much better filmed! Thanks a lot, it really helped! :D

Why would you add 4 chain links on a hardtail and only 2 on a fully? Aren't the added links used to compensate for the movement of the rear suspension? On a hardtail, there is no movement at all, so there are no variables. Can you please explain? :)
Hi there, have you experienced back pedaling issue?
Whats the trick to keep the chain from falling or coming out of crank at jumps and bumps, I can't get it to stay on!!
So many money's lol.you got some awesome detailed videos tho thanks it helps people alot
what is the rear axle spacing on that trek bike? some what off the subject, what is the most cogs I can fit on a 135mm spacing that has a 8 speed cassette? if I change the entire wheel and drivetrain how big can I go, number of cogs?
I feel your knee pain. I just got a new bike with gx 1x11. I had a 2x10 which got me up most of the hills I wanted to get up easily, the 1x11 is like being 3 rings down on the rear cassette of the 2x. Is there a cheaper swap that I can do on my 1x 11 can I take off the 42 and put in a 44+?
Whats your honest review about the shifting is it better than Shimano? do you recommend Brakes for Shimano then the rest is Sram? Thanks!
@@LoveMTBNow i have a clearer idea what drivetrain i should put on my build bike..Thanks!
LoveMTB i greased the freehub splines and threads, and also dabbed a bit on the cassette threads. Should be enough?
Rear shock upgrade before this surely?
planning to change my slx chainring 34t into oval. is there a huge difference? which one is better overall oval or normal?
danielrobert baui just changed to oval, best thing i did for the bike smooths out the pedal stroke and makes climbing effortless esp over roots
Wondering...does that 32 tooth non Eagle chain ring hold the chain on like a genuine SRAM Eagle ring? Did you know that was a feature of the genuine SRAM Eagle complete drivetrain?
Great video! Thx mate!
are no space problems when you change from 11 to 12 speed at rear? i thought i also have to change the rear hub aswell?! at least when i want to change from 10 to 12?
It possible to use 11 speed chain to 12 speed cassate? Any issues if we use it to 12 speed cassate or the RD?
Great. Thanks
where do you get that stand?
Does it fit in a Shimano FH-M3050-CL hub???
Make sure whenever you straighten your hanger you need to true your wheel first. Otherwise your truing your hanger to a untrue wheel.
So far all Rd's I have used had as much play in the cage when they were new, shimano,& Box.
Hello, what chain size you use? And 11s nw chainring works with this system? Thanks for video
LoveMTB thanks, i found 120links with Gold price in eBay, i think its work with 34t
Could the chain riding up on the 50T be caused from being too short? I know it only did it on the stand.
LoveMTB Well, thanks for the vid either way. It helped me decide. Ordered GX 1x12 eagle with Sunrace cassette. Subscribed 👍
I have a 2018 Trek Fuel EX 8 which comes with 1x12 GX Eagle, but the bike didn't come with the spacer tool. What is the correct technique to adjust the distance using the B screw without the spacing tool?
I adjust the upper guide when in 2nd gear to about 1 mm clearance relative to the largest sprocket. Very crisp shifting.
Do you think the 36t will fit in fuel ex 8 29er eagle by putting spacer so the chainrinf will move rightward and the will not get rid to the frame although the factory said it max can fit is 32t. Pls answer
LoveMTB its 2018 fuel ex 8 29er eagle. And i think it have PF BB
LoveMTB ok thanks i will find out.
Would any 11 speed chainring work.
Nice revue, thank´s
Is there a big differencen in chains between GX & XX1 ?
The Bike Store told me the durability should be much better.... I used it under poor conditions & there were several rust issues....The XX1 has a protection or layer?
Why the oval chain ring?
What is the cost for this whole setup? Im using a 1x10 right now
Nice video, I tried installing my GX Eagle Derailleur today and noticed when I adjust the high limit screw it won't go any further to the right hand side and is off by a few mm, any idea why this might be?
Thanks for replying, I haven't attached the shifter cable yet, could it be the hanger is not aligned correctly even though it's a brand new frame? I'm guessing it's unlikely the derailleur is a dud however when the high limit screw is adjusted as far as it can go it comes into contact with the arm which isn't good.
