Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down X-men 97.

We've now hit the first in the three part finale with the episodes being called Tolerance is Extinction. This is a mentality we've seen throughout the characters with Beast leaning into it at Genosha. Rogue dropped Trask like it was a like on the video and there's a real feeling like they might have had enough. Genosha was basically akin to a terror attack and we know what happens in the aftermath of those. Theres lots of big things that the shows tackling with and throughout this video we're gonna breakdown it all. This will contain easter eggs, hidden details and things you missed along with everything. Make sure you subscribe for our breakdowns on the final two episodes as I cant wait to talk about them too.

Now rather than getting the usual added in shots we just get repeated ones from earlier in the season. Not trying to slag them off mate but these show Cable and Apocalypse in their future war in the year 39999, you know...you get Nimrod and Mastermould and lastly a shot of Magneto at Asteroid M. This pulls from the episode Sanctuary and we will talk about it more later on in the video.

I had Wednesday off and watched it at 8am. I ran and poured myself a bowl of one of my kids cereal for maximum nostalgia. Best high I've had in years.
This episode had it all. Great action, great performances, great animation, great writing, great music, great cameos, and great Easter Eggs. I said the word "great" way too much in this comment, but that's just how the episode was. Banger Episode.

this has to be the best superhero content of the last 10 years, no unearned cameos and actually meaningful consequences. I only wish the characters like Colossus, Iceman and Psyloche were main team members

@highdefinition450 they're not though if you watched the whole series. Doom was already trying to form international alliances in the Fantastic 4 animated series. His tech centric country would be heavily invested in the mutant war.
That's Heinrich Zemo not his son. Based on the headband and the mask actually adhesive-X'd to his chin. Dude is a Nazi. In his universe he's the person atop the mutant experimentation in the 40s. Since he took over for Strucker in the SS when the latter was banished and formed HYDRA. Him being there confirmed everything about his comic origin. He's literally called the greatest scientist of the third Reich. Would be absolutely epic if they deliver on it and he refers to Magneto by his number like a savage, to traumatize him instantly as the mastermind of his tumultuous youth.
I couldn't pinpoint the outline of the third person the lady. But I'm sure that's a deep mutant hating person as well. Doom is strategic. Zemo being the funder makes more sense than anything I've ever seen in the comics. Since they usually just wrote in a new character. Cap about to drop a mountain on old boy. Imma find who she is if somebody doesn't do it today. 😂

wolverine being pulled in nightcrawler porter and seeing it in pov is so cool
Cables usage of the word "Utopia" is actually the perfect description given to this potential future.
Unlike what most people think of when people describe places as Utopias it isn't really a positive descriptor. The term actually is a description for "a society thriving by standing on top of another one", like how in Bastions future society basically treats mutants like appliances instead of as people.
Man the writing in this show knows what it is doing.
Watching Wolverine LITERALLY rip apart Prime Sentinels while free diving and seeing the brutality of it all was EPIC!

Oh, btw, I'm also extremely excited to see Sunspot let his powers off the chain. The animation style they chose for it with the Kirby Crackle effect on it is so cool!
Let's not forget Nightcrawler going ham with Wolverine on the Sentinels. That was some "Prime" action right there, lol.
Fatal Attractions. I've been calling it for weeks. This season will end the same way that comic did, mark my words. They're doing it.

When The Sentinal “killed” Magneto it said Omega Level “Threat” to them and Cable said in the last episode the grenade was electro magnetic their weakness and then he really was the Omega level threat to stop all the Sentinels declaring War

Carol Danvers is still in a coma, but at the end of that episode they teased she might wake up.
In the old series, she does actually make a reappearance, as binary.

Askani/Phoenix/Rachel Summers was the one fixing the bridge aside from being a slave from Utopia, Magneto’s Children are all present too in their old variant/version. Polaris was very evident then the two working on rocks were Scarlet Witch & QuickSilver(from Days of future past part 1 doing a mission with Wolverine & Bishop).
On the Purple screen TVs before Doctor Doom, Helmut Zemo & a silhoutte of Madam Hydra, the First silhoutte of woman with a wavey hair down was Sunspot’s mother

Yep, Paul thought it was a polarity disruption but he doesn’t sound like he realizes that’d be a whole other epic catastrophe to deal with had Magneto done that.

Bastion made a "blink and you'll miss it" comment on how the Prime Sentinels can locate mutants while undercover, specifically that they could hunt mutants hitting on them in dive bars.
This argument was used to justify the hate crime that led to Matthew Shepherd's death in 1998. There was victim blaming there because he accepted a ride home from two men pretending to hit on him. Beau de Mayo knew what he was doing when this was included, and I absolutely love him for that!

At 13:25 that is not a Sentinel. That is Machine Man created by Jack 'the King' Kirby. He actually debuted in the comic version of 2001: A Space Odyssey. I believe it was issue number 8.

That toy in Bastions home you said looks like a Sentinel is actually a toy of an underrated Marvel Hero called Machine Man. He was also (sort of) a member of a team called Next Wave with Monica Rambeau and Elsa Bloodstone who was in Werewolf By Night.

Yes, I thought that too. There's a Cable comic post Operation Zero Tolerance where Bastion escapes SHIELD custody and ends up mind controlling Machine Man, and Cable fights both.
Was looking to see if anyone else caught that, very nice. And also fitting since he and cable's annual issue explains some bits of bastion's origins

Summers family road trip in a Porsche; love it. I also love how the episode treated the Summers trio as a family. Jean making sure her son was buckled in was icing on the cake. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Apocalypse make his appearance until the final episode of the season to lead into the next season and the next season will be the straight on war throughout the series. I do believe the graves we have seen in the previous 90s run are starting to come true. We may in fact start seeing more of the X-Men being buried.
As far as Captain Marvel making a cameo it will be a different Carol Danvers than her as Captain Marvel. In the 90s run of the animated series she is known as Miss Marvel and last time we saw her is in the hospital after Rogue took her powers.

Yep it was, but MM was infected by Sentinel nanotechnology & began attacking mutants briefly in a late ‘90s storyline in the comics, hence the egg.
The two mutants breaking rocks are the same guys who appear in the TAS episode days of future past at the begining fighting the sentinels.
I believe the toy robot at 13:25 is an allusion to Aaron Stack a.k.a. X-51 a.k.a. Machine Man
He is important to Bastion's story as seen in Machine Man annual '98

After seeing Sinister pick up the beaker with the black liquid, and walk into another room, makes me think he already has Gambit's body.

@@peregrintook310 Constantly devaluing death in the comics IS an issue, because it lends no emotional stakes to anything that happens anymore. I don't feel any loss or sadness in a story because I know their death is just going to be reversed within the year anyway.
Claremont originally wanted Jean to stay dead. It was editorial that pushed to bring her back.
If I need to explain why resurrecting a character in a story all about tragedy and loss and letting go of the past robs the story of it's emotional weight.. that's a discussion about media literacy far too long for any UA-cam comment.
tl;dr it's not a noble sacrifice if you didn't actually sacrifice anything.

This show is the new blueprint for the MCU. A test run to implicate every powerful marvel hero team (besides maybe the guardians) into a show to help map out the best way to build it up for the big screen. This could very well be the future of our MCU.

I think that all the cameo's from this episode will tie into the end of this season or next season but i also think that avengers vs x men will happen and mabye multiple x men teams not just the main one

Can we sit back for a moment and enjoy Disney not f’ing this up? Like it’s a breath of fresh air to have a series like this done so well. I hope they remember to put this much care into everything…but I’m cynical. Let’s hope this keeps going.
Small but important cameo, but Jubilee and Sunspot were at a Jewelry store called 'Wasserman's' which is a nod to the OG song composer (Ron Wasserman) for the 90's X-men theme, and MMPR Theme.
The episode really made me feel a sense of dread and hopelessness of the xmen’s situation and I teared up when professor X said to me my xmen

Doctor Doom and Zemo showing up seems to be hinting at a huge supervillain team up with the Masters Of Evil. This means that the Avengers and the X-Men will be teaming up against this new Masters Of Evil.

Not at all my friend. It's gonna lead to multiple teams of X-Men. So magneto is gonna go back to being a villain by the end of the season. Prof x stays. Next season is avengers vs X-Men with a radicalized cyclops who turns to magneto. So you get an injustice style season 3 of cyclops vs wolverine or storm. Doom and zemo will basically be plot threads for each of those teams and you end things of with a version of onslaught to bring everyone together
I can't see a Nazi and gypsy teaming up.
I don't think there is an official team on this 90's tas universe. We've seen hulk, thor, cap, ironman, but I don't think they're together
Mystique is still Nightcrawlers "Mother" and Azazel the father no matter how hard weirdos want to change it.
Seeing 90s Spider-man brought me to tears. That’s my childhood and seeing all these cameos included in an amazing story was just amazing.

I would’ve gasped when Spider-Man showed up if it wasn’t for my current migraine rn, but ignoring my migraine, I was hyped asf. Something tells me that Spidey’s cameo wasn’t just a small cameo and He’s definitely gonna believe it’s his responsibility to help others, basically joining in and teaming up with the X-Men for a second time.
