As a mechanic, I come across broken bolts often and spend crazy time to removing them. Your method, will work better than an extraction tool that often does not work. Thank you.
I worked on my honda for the first time and broke a bolt on the valve cover. Smh. Glad this video was made. I even listened to the same song just for extra luck.
Just had to add my comment since this saved my ass. Had a speed sensor bolt that broke off in the steering knuckle. It was a fairly small 10mm bolt head to give you an idea. Used a 3/32 drill bit and a smaller T10 torx (figured I'd start there and go bigger if I needed). Didn't drill too deep for fear of not drilling perfectly straight, worked like a charm. Thought I'd throw my testimonial and numbers here in case it helps
Worked like a charm, thank you!!! I had a broken bolt in the head of my 454. Used 7/64 for a pilot hole & then a 7/32. #27 torn & it came out as smooth as butter. You ROCK!
Dude my lq9 in my truck. Got all bolts free. Then noticed a bolt was missing. Looked and shit is broken flush on my head. So 7/64 then go to 7/32 then t27?? Fuck. My engine is in place. I can remove the wheel well and gain access. Luckily I’m small enough to fit and work. I just have to remove heat shields. This shit has been lingering in my head since thanksgiving man lol
Bro i love you so much for this. Im a Machinist and ive been trying to get a headless thread out for like 2hrs. My shop doesnt have thread extractors, so i looked up your vid and it just saved my ass! Without your video, i wouldve had to scrap a $900 mutli inserted drill shank. Thank you good sir for this video. This video saved me. Had a broken bolt stuck in a valve cover. I managed to get it out. Thank you for your guidance. ✌️
@@jio7270 Im trying to change my wheel cylinder and the T8 Torx bolt got really rounded cause I wasn't using the right size like an idiot then I tried using other types of sockets now im fucked. Beatin the shit out of it with a punch
@@wildside1951 see if its a torx head, go up a size or two, in your case a t10 would probably be best, but put the bit on the head roughly in the same pattern and beat the hell out of it until you fit the bit in there, that usually helps me undo a stripped torx screw
Great vid and very informative. I had a similar situation with an exhaust bolt. What helped me was using a left hand drill bit. It hollowed out the hole as well as loosing it up. As soon as I put the easy out in the bolt it was loose enough to loosen by hand .
Thanks for this video!!!! I bought a ez out kit and it couldn’t get the bolt out but I used your method with a torx bit and it worked out better thanks again for the video 👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👍👍🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Cool! By using this method I should be able to drive the broken bolts that held my ATV's skid plate to the frame out by reversing direction and actually driving them deeper in until they come out the other side.
Yes, man! Many tools come to make working easier. In 2000 I was working as a mechanic and did it same way. Now I'm saling car repair tools including screw extraclors. ua-cam.com/video/-IFIGwZckt0/v-deo.html The only problem of TORX, if finally it will get broken inside hole it will be double trouble to extract it. So, doing this way should be very carefull with the torque you use for unscrewing.
I have a bleed valve snapped off in the caliper. Most videos say weld a nut on the end. I can't weld so hopefully this approach will work. Thanks for the vid
Let's just say I had a lug nut a little on the high side of torque for some reason. I'm currently doing both lower control arms on the ol fukus. So first time for everything right? Never snapped a lug, so far down that nothing would grip and pull it out. Tried hammering a lightly smaller socket than my key, didn't work. Heated it up and trying the small socket again drilled to the end of my stud,
Well I’m going to attempt this now I’ll let you know in a little bit how it went Edit: 12 hours later and I’ve got it out with my drill by just attaching the end of the broken screw I got to stick out enough straight to my drill and put her into reverse bam screw is out It was for my thermostat so big pain to get to but I got the job done
How do u get it out if the head it alread broke and the threads are in there flush. My rotor screw is broken into the wheel hub and I can’t put a new screw to line everything up. And now the brake caliper is rubbin I’m rotor. This screw is very tiny
I going trying it but slightly smaller broken bolt. That one thing I dislike when tightening a Bolt it seems not to be tightening but all the of a sudden u hear a Tink.
will this work on bolts that have been doused in thread locker because I was taking the Philips head screws out of a stator casing to replace the stator and snapped w of the screws and I was wondering if I could still use this same method even tho they have been completely dunked in the stuff I managed to get one out and it was a mess the second one was sorta coming out untill it snapped and the third one rounded off so I just broke it off likely would have snapped even if it didnt round off if anyone knows if it would still work please let me know thanks

I used this method with limited success using an impact rated T30 bit. While trying to remove one broken stud which was below the surface, I managed to snap off the end of the bit. I just happened to have a 7mm diamond core bit handy (about $8). While time consuming, I was able to drill and expose enough of the broken bit to remove it. Hope someone finds this rescue tip helpful.
Oh my goodness you Rock I had that screw out in less than 10 minutes best advice ever 💯
You're a lifesaver. I spent an hour using an extractor and this method took me all of 5 minutes. About to pick up a set of torx sockets

Lol.... happened to me too..... i said to hell with that and bought a new caliper instead.
Happened to me a while back we fixed it by plugging it with a nail lol
I thought I've seen it all ,good one.
What is the diameter of the broken bolt
This video shows a good reason to own a torque wrench
mine hasnt broken in a flat manner. gonna try this anyway. good vid
No no no. Must use left turn drill. I have had them spin out before using easyout. A right turn drill drives in further.
So theoretically a bigger bolt say 100 lbs of ft torque on said bolt busted. Bigger the t series?
Let's just say I had a lug nut a little on the high side of torque for some reason. I'm currently doing both lower control arms on the ol fukus. So first time for everything right? Hammered a T50 in and broke half my stud out. All the prior hammering I did left me with 2 taps with my nail hammer
I am curious as to why threads that clean would have caused a bolt to snap from extraction?
