Actually with the supposed ethereum difficulty bomb and aetherium going to a non minable cryptocurrency in the very close to unforeseeable. Not to mention unless he's seriously pulling some cryptocurrency out of that mining rig he's going to run. His bill will run up far faster than he will ever pull currency out of that thing. Maybe augment your home electricity with some solar panels. Just trying to help especially if you live in a highly populated Metropolis your electricity is going to be pretty expensive but if you live in the middle of nowhere there's actually a chance this might work but then you'll be limited by your internet connection speed.

I think we've all been there while troubleshooting lol! I just commented on a separate video from Cryptomined(Pro miner) because I thought he applied thermal paste off-camera, and so I was worried someone might forget to apply thermal paste and burn their cpu up based on watching his video. Lo and behold stock heatsinks have thermal paste pre-applied on them, but I NEVER knew that because I NEVER use stock heatsinks LOL! Learn something new(or old) every day!

You used to be able to crossfire up to 4 cards but I think they moved away from that. It just doesnt scale well and in worst case scenarios it's actually slower than a single card setup.

To answer why we used the Celeron processor:
1. The work is done by the GPUs not the CPU
2. Each rig just needs a CPU to have it turn it on, it doesn't add anything else to the mining power of the rig
3. Each rig could be upgraded to a 4790k if we chose to use it for something else but it is not cost efficient to place anymore money into the CPU for the reasons stated above.
Please understand a mining computer doesn't operate like a regular computer. There are plenty of crypto-currencies that use the GPU over the CPU for mining.

I'm not into mining but I really like the shelving & zip tie method......looks alot easier than building special cases
JDTechGear its simple math. your PSU is 1200W so its pulling 100V and 12A max from the wall. (V x I = W) you have 6 GPUs running close to 100% on that one PSU. The RX 580 TDP is 150 I think so times that by 6 and you get 900W alone, then add the board CPU keyboard mouse monitor HDD/SSD and your pushing well over 1000W. Most normal US outlets are rated between10A to 15A. Now you are hooking 6 PCs to this, ya your going to have issues.

JDTechGear - Under volting your 580's can get you huge power savings and keep the same hash rate. not sure how annoying it would be to under volt those guys.
So you're the dude that made it impossible for me to buy one RX 580. I waited for WEEKS, LOL. I just forked up the extra cash for a GTX 1070 Strix 8GB OC Edition. I'll probably like it more in the long run I hope, and it was only $380 so I guess the prices are dropping right now.

Yeah, I thought so as well. It's the last thing I need since the Ryzen CPU's don't have built in graphics. My 2017 build has been taunting me for quite some time now and I got to the breaking point and said I might as well go a step up.
Just did the exact same thing, except I sold my RX 480 8GB for $360 so I was only out $40 for a 1070. Over $100 profit for me before buying the 1070, so thanks, I guess?
I am thinking about doing the same thing but I really want freesync as it is much cheaper than gsync. I might just give in though and get a 1070 or 1060 and just stay with a standard monitor and use vsync...
I mean, I don't care about any of that stuff. I mainly built this computer to be a multitasking beast. Gaming when I can play, and doing my college work when I have an assignment. I'm a pen-tester, so a multiple high end VM capable computer that can run detailed IDE's is a must for me. I thought about freesync as well when I bought it, but really for me it wasn't a big factor. Like I said in the OP though, if they were able to be purchased, I would have got one. The problem came when my laptop simply wasn't cutting it anymore and I needed it for my college assignments. I didn't need that much power but what can I say, I'm a gamer at heart.

grlmgor honestly can't really answer that question! I didn't have input to what my friend bought, I just recommended the motherboard. But if anything the DDR3 RAM is a little cheaper but that's all I could really assume

Drew Duncan I read somewhere that currently the RX 580 pays itself off between 24 and 32 days. If the cards were to be undervolted then total power consumption would decrease but production would decrease slightly making the time to pay off slower but the overall profit margin higher

JD, this was such a fun video! The music, filming, and mood were all fitting. Loved the effects you did to label PC1 (1:35), PC2 (2:18), etc. And it was just overall a cool thing to see built.
I appreciate that you didn't cut out mistakes (and didn't act all know-it-all supreme), which are just things we can _all_ learn from. The power issue makes sense. Each breaker is tolerant of a certain amount of current (Amps), and if that's exceeded, it'd flip to avoid damage to the circuit. So, splitting between circuits or running a new one (a pain for a pleb like me) should suffice.
I could imagine that running power to a significant UPS in between the wall and the computers might also help if you're just teetering at that line of flipping the breaker. Overall power draw from the wall may not be much different in the end, but if the UPS is also storing power, that's just one extra source for current that the wall wouldn't need to immediately provide (i.e. spiking and flipping the breaker) at a moment's notice. Just a theory.
I would totally watch a follow up to this video if you two were to give an explanation of the hardware used and why (like, how you apparently don't need the full x16 slot but just need the x1 connection for mining, why a mere Celeron will totally suffice, etc.), the software/OS you're using as I've never heard of it, did you finagle with undervolting for efficiency reasons (whew, that power bill tho) and just what you've learned from the process as a whole.

Oh yeah this was my first time building a mining rig there were plenty of mistakes along the way, too many to put into the video, but I never want to come off that even if I did know the ins and outs of it. We tried using a UPS and that's what it did when we turned 2 PC's on the same breaker. So my friend split up each PC to a different breaker and its working well now.
And I'll definitely make a follow up explaining the parts we used for this, it seems like a lot of people wanted to know why we used the parts that we did. The power bill is going to be hefty but this is all my friend's doing so i was just there to help him build it.

marcel haase It's not about work, the price of these cards has been over inflated by a niche market that has no other desire than to make the quick buck and trash these cards as soon as the next "bitcoin" comes around. These cards were meant as a budget option for people getting into 1080p gaming on a budget. With the price artificially high their ability to buy these cards is gone. Imagine the rich kid on the playground buying all the ice cream from the truck just to cool his knob with it then throw it out when it's melted, and if you want your ice cream sandwich it's going to be twice the price and you'll have to wait three weeks. But sorry, you only mowed enough lawns to buy it before they were twice the price. Oh well guess you should have worked harder right?

They did not buy these thinking, "I'm gonna buy all of these gpu's so nobody else can have them." It sucks that the company is not keeping up with the demand. I'm sorry you can't get these right now. Hopefully AMD can change something to keep up with the demand and keep prices affordable.

Got those same exact risers. One of them wasn't working (after narrowing the problem down to the riser, between mobo/GPU/riser) and all I had to do was examine it closely and I found some suspect USB plug pins that seemed a little too close for comfort. Dragged a razor blade between them and then it worked fine.
You have to divide each rig on separate breaker switches (different room plugs) each breaker can handle 2000W roughly.

grg thanks for the tips man! That's what we had planned on doing but we're still kinda noobs at this so we have to figure out to modify the bios properly, well my friend will have to figure it out XD
I underclocked my cores severely (to like 600Mhz) and overclocked the memory through the roof and upped the power a bit. Takes a 580 from 21MH to 29-30MH for only a few extra watts of power (and an A/C to cool the rig). You need the modded bios.

Awesome vid. I'd love to see a 100 card build just to see how the idiots, morons and children cry. Why they are blaming you for the shortage is baffling to anyone with a bit of brains. I've been trying to buy a new card for last 3 weeks, but for first 2 there was none. Pre order only. Now there are cards, but they are hugely overpriced. I will just have to be patient. But I do not blame you or any one who has bought cards to mine. I wouldn't worry about the backlash either. Any comment even negative ones help your channel the same with dislikes. They actually help you. Any feedback positive or negative helps your channel. So all the raging morons are actually helping you. So funny.
Each breaker in a us residential home is usually rated for 15-20 amps. Most house wiring is only rated for 15 amps nominal. Watts = Amps x volts. so if you machines are drawing 1200 watts at 120 volts that is 10 amps. You might be able to get away with using 2 machines on one breaker since they may not be drawing all 1200 watts that the psu can output and you can go over a little above the breakers rated limit. Also if you are running an extension cable to another room, make sure it is has thick gauge wire that is rated for the current or the cable may heat up and catch fire!

hey are these different PC's or are they clustered because clustering will allow you to work on all of them at once
