Best song about term limits EVER
the ONLY song about term limits. lets keep it that way
lol
There was some stiff competition an I right
1000th like
That's my go to answer
Chris Jackson's voice is unreal.
Very true, he's amazing!!!
Has he ever hit a wrong note in his life????
it’s amazing
"Jefferson started it" always makes me laugh, and Washington's reaction.
ikr
Priya Sridhar me toooo
Priya Sridhar same
Y e s
There like brothers
I don't think Chris Jackson has sung a foul note in his life
i believe this
I don't think you're wrong
kitteikai just
this is accurate
Ikr he's so perfect and beautiful! ❤️❤️❤️
I heard Lin saying that the Bible quote "everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid" was actually Washington's most frequently used Bible quote. He mentioned it in over 50 speeches and letters. So take Lin's decision to use it as a lyric and add Chris' voice singing it and what you get? An outstanding piece of beauty.
When he sings that line my heart melts as its just so perfect...
Love learning little tidbits like that. Makes me appreciate the thought and care that went into the lyrics more.
Wow. Well I always thought that the line was 'under their own line and victory'. That line is ruined for me now if it's from the bible
+Crafty Crafter what, why?
+Crafty Crafter but there was never a doubt it wasn't from the bible what do think he means by "the scripture says"
I wanna marry Chris Jackson's voice
relatable
+PAY YOUR FUCKING TAXES Your name. TOO GOOD.
Peachjunkie thanks
+Jonathan Strom He & Leslie Odom, Jr. have AMAZING voices! Wish I could see it... Have been obsessed w/ the cast album for last 3 mos.
OML Chris Jackson and my uncle are like the same person. They look alike, sound alike, it's so creepy but cool at the same time
My favorite part- 5:18 when Lin sings "George Washington's going home" all by himself. I love how the ensemble sounds in the Cast Recording saying this line, but there's something really powerful/sad about Hamilton's sole voice delivering this line.
Katie Ramos Yeah now I kinda wish they kept that in the final products... at least for the first repetition.
He just sounds so sAd and upset when singing that- something about that just hi t me, it's kinda representing how Hamilton didn't want Washington to leave.
Well George Washington throughout the play kind of becomes Hamilton’s father figure, or rather the father Hamilton always wanted.
When Washington started calling him son and Hamilton screamed “CALL ME SON ONE MORE TIME!” in pure anger, it was because Hamilton was still triggered by his own father stepping out on their family.
Washington essentially takes a fondness for Hamilton, he views Hamilton like a son, he doesn’t let Hamilton just throw himself into war, because he knows that Hamilton wants to rise or die.
Washington sees Hamilton’s heart and mind, Hamilton is young, brilliant and everything Washington wants to America to stand for, he sees a lot of himself in Hamilton, he knows Hamilton’s most powerful weapon is his mind and his words.
Washington immediately decides that he isn’t gonna let Hamilton throw his life away with his shot, no matter how much Hamilton seems desperate to do so.
So over the years, their relationship builds into a father-son bond - Washington respects Hamilton’s thoughts on topics over everyone else’s and protects him politically too, something quickly noticed by his rivals - Burr and Jefferson. Hamilton respects and looks up to Washington, he listens and obeys him and seeks his approval and praise.
So when Washington decides to retire and go home, Hamilton not only treats it like he is losing his mentor and protector, but also like he’s losing his father, which is why I think that Lin always plays it like Hamilton is crying and his voice breaks by the end of the song.
I love seeing Lin performing in character. He's great in those presentational songs like the opening and My Shot but I freaking love seeing him lock into his scene partner and just become Hamilton in the moment.
I feel like this represents how some fans reacted to Lin leaving Hamilton, Lin being the fans and Chris being Lin today.
aH ;0;
Ongaku Otaku Those are wise words my friend!
I understand every word that comes out of Lin's mouth. No matter how fast it is. Man he is literally the best. I'm officially in love
Linnyloo IS ADORBS.
Mariel De Lara HES SO CUTE
Mariel De Lara HES MINE
Potato Pigeon
NO HE'S MINE
"Idk what you heard but Jefferson started it" IM DEAD
Jefferson disliked this video 32 times
Anna Catherine Loft The delivery of that line makes me laugh every time!
I've decided that whenever I do something wrong (which is very often) or I start a fight or something and some one says something like "I've got to talk to you" or anything that implies they know I am now going to say "Sir, I don't know what you've heard but whatever it is Jefferson started it" wait for their reaction, walk away while saying "I'll be back"
He’s like a little kid who got into a fight
At 2:13, Lin's "NO, SIR, WHY???" is hilarious when performed live. xD
Thank you so much for pointing that out omg
SO MONOTONOUS LMFAO HE'S JUST LIKE "Nooo sir why 😐"
One Last Time always legit makes me tear up. Washington did the single greatest thing in political history by teaching America how to say goodbye.
Yeah then we have trump who couldn’t say goodbye without a Fight. They would be so disappointed in America today
I CRIED.
Como cuando vas casual escuchando todas las canciones de Hamilton que puedas gracias a Clau Reads Books, y de pronto te das cuenta que comentó algo... XD
+Clau Reads Books This was the first song to make me break down and weep when I first heard the soundtrack. I think it might have tipped the scale from "this is really something," to "this is really everything."
+Clau Reads Books SAME, es de mis canciones favoritas por siempre
+Gabrielle Carolina Then It's Quiet Uptown came and then The World Was Wide Enough ((((((((:::::::::
SAME BEEN REPEATING THIS ALBUM FOR MORE THAN 1000X ALREADY
How have I not seen this before?!
Hello, I am the average subscriber I love your vids!
Hi I love ur vids
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL btw this is the best thing ever
I love your videos!
JonasAlmostFamous Heyyy Jona!
If Chris keeps playing Washington by the time the 2016 election passes, his presidency will be appreciated more than any of the candidate's
Underappreciated comment.
Amen
Chris' last performance is the week after the election.
Jackson Tubis he's not stepping for président
And now that it's August 1, 2020, you were 💯.
They should make a Hamilton movie with all the same actors. If buy it.
If they make a movie I can't watch it because the theatres would be full... For the first 1month give or take a few weeks
Maddy Boone they have a professional stage recording with all the original cast members. It probably won't be released until Hamilton stops showing live tho...
They made an archival film with the original cast! We won't see it for years though. They worked so hard to make a great live theatre experience, they want lots more people to experience it that way first (they're getting it out on tours very quickly).
Christy Chang so they're actually going show it?
I was worried I'd never see a recording of OBC
Now I'm worried I won't see it for another decade, Hamilton is extremely popular lol
Thomas Hester basically lol. It really sucks but the recording will come out eventually
I love Chris Jackson voice, its like pure silk so smooth!
1:44 HIS LAUGH I'M NOT OK ITS SO CUTE HELP ME
IKR?!😂😍😂😍❤️
Anna Shrader I know you commented a while ago but I LOVE YOUR PROFILE PIC
Anna Shrader I've been pressing 1:44 for a little too long. It still cracks me up XD
Anna Shrader YESSS
Anna Shrader he says HAHAHA rather than BAHAHAHA. That's how i know he's definitely in character singing rather than just singing the song
It's sad that this is the closest I'll ever be to actually seeing it in person.
Same
They had better release the full musical with the original cast...so help me
Same here. Too far away and way too poor. But I get to cuddle a sloth for my anniversary so I've got that going for me.
They Should
Alex Gamboa Congrats you nerds, the full soundtrack is evvverrrrywhheerrree
chris just blew us all away. damn.
Tia L I see what you did there
That chemistry is uncanny, you can't teach that it can only come from a friendship
Someone asked who the pianist is, I can't find the comment, BUT it is Ian Weinberger. Sorry, I just went back and checked the vimeo description by the Gilder Lehrman Institute. Added to description here now!
jane THANKS!
His voice is like caramel
LOL I know exactly what that sounds like
Penelope Ades it's like how red velvet feel. that's how he sing
But I thought it was coffee.
Penelope Ades who we talking bout¿
Oml I thought it said camel 😂
Chris Jackson as Washington is literal perfection.
Hamilton could write the words, but only Washington could sing them. That's leadership.
hamilton: I dont know what it is but whatever it is Jefferson started it.
Jefferson: Fuck you
I feel like, if you want to throw some authenticity in there, Jefferson should be calling him a hermaphrodite or something.
lol
The part with the speech when Chris joins Lin always gives me goose bumps.
Lin Manuel Miranda said that Washington only raps when he is frustrated in an interview I saw with him talking about the lyrics of "One Last Time"
anyone else thinks the one line "i want to warn against partisan fighting" still rings true in today's context?
+shadowsinwinter Yes.
+shadowsinwinter "If we try to fight in every revolution in the world, we never stop. Where do we draw the line?"
After Washington died, we did exactly what he warned against and split into parties.
like... how is Chris Jackson's voice so beautiful???? like who said that was allowed?? WHO?! illegal
This is one of my favourite songs from the musical. As a foreigner, I never really appreciated George Washington's impact as a leader. In my mind then, Thomas Jefferson was a far greater figure because of his writings. It's through Hamilton that I really understood how instrumental Washington was in making America a leading nation. Chris Jackson is perfect for the role in how he carries himself. I only wish we'd have the chance to see the original Broadway cast!
Angelica Cruz LOL, if you think Thomas Jefferson is amazing you should read this one document. Basically after Jefferson, my son, purchased a large territory from The French, Alexander Hamilton completely BASHED him, saying it was all luck. It was great.
when you realize Chris Jackson is leaving in a few weeks so when he sings this song, he's passing on the torch because it's going to out live him when he's gone
Christopher Jackson is too friggin' amazing to be put in my measly words.
I think this song, especially as performed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Chris Jackson, does an amazing job on capturing the complexities of the Washington/Hamilton relationship. This especially includes having Hamilton begin to drop his attempts to talk Washington out of it after Washington quotes the Bible, ""everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid" Without saying a word, Miranda conveys Hamilton coming to understand what Washington is asking for, the opportunity to live his final years at his beloved Mt. Vernon after devoting virtually his entire adult life to public service.
The part where they recite George Washington's farewell address, is amazing.
Chris sounds so good live!! i'm not crying you're crying
Chris Jackson can god damn sing, so can Lin but I prefer him rapping
kelsie proudlove Jackson has the voice of an angel.
The last time they sing this together will be heartbreaking.
holy wow that thought hurts.
I listened to this the day I graduated, and sobbed. I didn't realize it's impact until then.
Oh my they will probably start crying... It really will be "One last time".
it happened, and they both cried I'm pretty sure. and Chris saluted Lin back in yorktown
Chris Jackson is INCREDIBLE.
Lin's fucking face on "I'm sorry, what?"
Sarah Tilgner right??
The "hahaha" laugh was so cute! This is too muvh
CHRIS JACKSON'S VOICE IS EVERYTHING I NEED IN MY LIFE
How is Chris Jackson's voice this good?
D': WAHAWHAHWHWAAHHHHH
man Chris Jackson's voice is so amazing i fell in love
This is the most genius shit I have ever seen, ever. This man blows me away. I only discovered Hamilton 2 weeks ago. LMM is by far the best lyricist I have ever heard, ever.
NSimon925 welcome to the club...
I'm so thankful for all these youtube videos. Because without them and with the original cast no longer performing in Hamilton, this is my only chance to witness this amazing perfection
Yeah Lin has totally tweeted and talked in interviews about "dropping in" on productions to play the role. He says he's written a role he can play "until I need help jumping up on the desk" (paraphrased from tweet). He said watching the Chicago cast makes him really itchy to get up there and "play with his friends." He's expected to drop in on the London production while he's currently there filming Mary Poppins Returns.
He got too old to play Usnavi (the lead from his first musical, In the Heights)--he said he won't play him in the movie being developed by Jon Woo and original book writer Quiara Alegria Hudes. I also gather from interviews that Hamilton is a character that incorporates a lot more of the essence of his life than Usnavi.
(Don't quote me on this, I'm not exactly sure but) Lin said he has already made a recording of the play, original cast, for sale. It has not yet been released so people come to see it live first if they can.
They made an archival film of the show with the original Broadway cast (including Jonathan Groff who came back especially for the filming) over two performances at the end of June 2016, which will *eventually* be available, but you're right, not until the show has been live on many, many more stages. (I'm imagining not until it's been in regional productions for awhile. It's not always going to be only in a few big cities, folks! Every successful Broadway show goes from New York, to national touring, to regional tours, to amateur and high school productions.) Here's the lowdown on the film and why it won't be released right away:
purelintrash.tumblr.com/post/146680548061/purelintrash-in-all-media-now-known-or
This is good on why films of Broadway shows are not more common or widely available:

Is it weird that I want Obama to sing this (or at least parts of this) on the last day of his presidency?
It would be pretty cool
wow that'd be dope
i want him to sing this to vp joe bien
If he hasn't got anything else lined up after next January, he could audition for the part of GW whenever Chris Jackson leaves the show. :)
And change Jefferson with Trump. Or no, idk.
I finally understand now what Lin said. No one, and I mean NO ONE, can riff like Chris Jackson. His voice is beautiful. And even more beautiful live😍
This song is incredibly powerful. The music is perfect as is the emotion... but pile that on top of the perfect moment in history when a man who could have been King, decided to give away his power and go home.
"I don't believe in God, but I believe in Chris Jackson" - Lin-Manuel Miranda
Polluxa C I don't know about God*
Polluxa C Lin dosent believe in God?
When does he say that?
Wait Lin is an atheist?, I thought he was like a christian or something
E yeah I’m pretty sure he’s catholic-
My life just got better
This is my favorite song in Hamilton and I weep every time I listen. Getting to see Chris Jackson via this video is as close to seeing him sing it in person as I'll every get. And I loved it.
Chris Jackson's voice is like pure silk..........
I'll be honest, not a lot of Hamilton live performances live up to the (albeit well-produced and therefore finely honed) OST, but Chris Jackson did not disappoint. Dude's got some pipes.
Totally agree. I've seen a bootlegged version of Hamilton (whoops) and I wasn't blown away by anyone's live performance except for Chris and Jonathan Groff. Chris' voice is magic.
+Scheurthiaume that's because it's a bootleg video which is why it's a bad idea to watch them. I'm gonna tell you from experience, LIVE is mind blowing beyond the OST
+Kimberly Russell but i dont have hundreds of dollars to blow on a show
+Grazy Nicole I entered the lotto paid $10. I do understand tho.
I was impressed by all the voices from the performers in Hamilton and they all sounded very good, but Lin Manuel is not a very good singer :/ extremely talented rapper/composer/lyricist and a genius but yeah not such a great singer. He has amazing cast members and a great ensemble though!
Chris - I love his voice. I can hear a little bit of "When your're home" from In the Heights in that last note.
Oh, s when he says "History has it's eyes on you, you, you," he's talking to the American public
I just love the ending of this song. And actually the transition from where Chris is following Lin with some small embellishments to Chris just taking over, and Lin following him. I love it
Jefferson started it!
This song couldn't be more appropriate for what America's going through right now...
I don't know what you heard, but whatever it is, Jefferson started it.
his expressions are exactly what I imagined xD
Chris Jackson for President!
"Everyone must sit under there own vine and fig tree" is my favorite quote ;-;
Those guys are more talented than every other "musician" in our decade by far. Thank you Lin, for creating such a rare and beautiful masterpiece and thanks to all who sings in the musical. You voices must be from another planet.
The address affects me now just the same as it did the first time I heard it on the album. Such a powerful use of their real words in an artistic context.
This is my favorite song from the show (most of the time). I was looking forward to seeing the performance from the White House, but this is great. Thank You for posting!
There are videos of what was streamed from the White House on Tumblr. Check howdoyouwritenonnnstop.tumblr.com/tagged/bam4ham
thank you -- love seeing what I hadn't already!
This piece holds its own with anything else that has come out of Broadway. I can't wait for the opportunity to go see the show.
How am I going to make it through this song next week when I finally get to see Hamilton in person? I cry every time when I listen to the album. Thanks a million for uploading this video!
+Martha W It's okay to cry. God knows I did. Just bring Kleenex and try to do it quietly. :)
Yesterday was his last performance. Imma cry
Fernanda Roig do you know where i can find chris's last performance of this song?
aphelion You can't. If there is any recording of that, it's an illegal bootleg.
I never thought a man could give me chills like Chris Jackson at the end of this song
hi chris jackson has every right to uppercut me to death
I love the Hamilton musical so much, even though I’ve never seen it live. I love the songs, the people, everything. And the way Lin Manuel Miranda looks at everyone with caring proud eyes always makes me happy. “Jefferson started it”😂😂
Wow, Chris is so locked in and barely misses a single note. What a professional. A beautiful and perfect voice for George Washington.
Hearing Chris Jackson belt out that last "time" live, gives me an eargasm.
CHRIS JACKSON HAS EVERY RIGHT TO PUNCH ME IN THE FACE I WILL ACTUALLY PAY HIM TO
does John Laurens s gay? Your pfp and that name oh I love you.
I can't get enough of chris jacksons voice
JEEZUS! Chills every time, and so powerful to *watch* them perform it.
CHRIS JACKSON'S VOICE ISN'T REAL, OMG
I COULD HEAR HIM SING EVERY SINGLE DAY OF THE REST OF MY LIFE
I WANNA MARRY HIM
What a voice Chris Jackson...and looking hot to boot.
Chris Jackson had SUCH a beautiful voice.
Chris Jackson seems like the principal of a school for some reason but like a really good principal who cares about all of his students individually
This is so beautiful.
I recommend listening to this with headphones. It's positively angelic.
Chris singing this song always makes me cry. I don’t know why. It’s just so beautifully written and performed.
This song gets me every time. His voice is so soothing and his voice breaks are perfect.
I believe in Chris Jackson

Chris Jacksons voice brings life back into my dead soul
