Last year my senior year cause of covid we couldnt do a regular musical so we did atalent show type thing. Where there were 7 songs from 7 broadway musicals. Cell block tango was one of them and the lights for each character changed every second it was amazing but the girls did great. I did a high school musical song.

Ava Valdez recently my school got new lights boards to wear you could program it to do that or you could put it on the direct line so you could just press the buttons when they needed to be pressed
I've done lighting like this before and sure it would be stressful but they did a pretty awesome job.
I am also a lighting person for my schools drama club and a few concerts
Actually its the stage manager who has to call the shots and the lighting person should just follow his/her instructions. And also, its not actually that difficult since they're almost all musical queues so as long as you're familiar with the score, it should be a breeze.
