I remember feeling a shiver of disgust when reading about the trail of empty cradles he left behind through the homes of woodsmen and farmers along the Anduin.
@@CounciloftheRings Tolkien wrote it, so I guess there was an intention of showing how twisted the Ring made him. He was a classy writer who didn't dwell much on the squeamish things but didn't shy away to mention horrible deeds in passing.
Gollum was one of the great characters of all movie history, played to perfection by Andy Serkis, with a little help from the production crew! Great video!
I long to watch this famous franchise movies 🍿 but they are so long lol but smeagol is my favorite character! He's just so captivating and I love his background story
01:38 So Gollum ceased to look up at flowers, trees and mountains and kept his head and eyes downward. Welp, I guess now we know why he/his character sank so low. Thanks, ROP. 😂 I never understood why Gollum continued to feel that Frodo had betrayed him in Ithilien. Did he not realize that without Frodo's intervention, those men would have killed him because he had broken a law that is punishable by death and ignorance was not an excuse? 20:58 is absolutely stunning! I'm guessing it's supposed to be the Golden Wood. I just saw you have an exhaustive list of artists and their websites in your description. Do you happen to know which artist created this? If you can't remember off the top of your head, that's fine. I will go through each one because they are all amazingly talented. Thank you very much for the video!
No, Gollum did not realize that Frodo actually saved his life. Gollum was not exactly rational and being grateful was not in his nature even from the beginning when he stole the Ring from Déagol.
I agreed with Istari. Furthermore even if Gollum understood the matter fully the idea might have been belittled by his worse half. Just consider how you can be extremely certain on a thing, but then new information comes forward and you believe something completely different. Imagine if that “new information” comes from your own dark thoughts and just confirm your worst fears. I guess that’s worth considering too. The artwork at 20:58 is by Ted Nasmith and can be found on his website linked to in the description 😁
@@istari0 why, hello again, Mr or Ms Wizard, I just replied to one of your replies to my comments, I think, on a community post from this channel about the Sauron meme! Gollum was certainly not rational and gratitude seemed to be lacking completely. He would’ve been an absolutely exhausting companion to travel with. I believe Aragorn spent months travelling with him from where Aragorn found him until they reached Mirkwood and had the elves imprison him.
@@CounciloftheRings thank you for the artists name! Thank you also for explaining Gollum’s thought processes. That makes perfect sense how you describe it. 🎯😍🖖
When I saw him die in the end of return of the king. I was like Good riddance. He was nothing but an evil evil little demon. And not only that Sam had good reasons not to trust him ether
I am always reminded of Frodo's words after the Ring is destroyed: ‘Yes,’ said Frodo. ‘But do you remember Gandalf’s words: Even Gollum may have something yet to do? But for him, Sam, I could not have destroyed the Ring. The Quest would have been in vain, even at the bitter end. So let us forgive him! For the Quest is achieved, and now all is over. I am glad you are here with me. Here at the end of all things, Sam.’ Through Gollum we truly learn that Evil only has the power to destroy. Late merry Christmas to you 😊🎄
@@CounciloftheRings You know if those lines are in one of the movies. Then apparently they must be in the extended version of return of the king because apparently I don’t think that I remember that. I got done watching the extended version of the two towers and apparently I thought that it made a lot more sense then the theatrical version. And now I’m going to watch the extended versions of the other two movies pretty soon as well. Oh it's certainly worth reading. The only bad thing is you'll be able to point out all the dumb changes Peter Jackson added XD Sadly I know many people that will never read it, so I plan to cover each chapter in a video and sort of tell it like this lore video. I'm sure there are many gems movie-fans would love to know as well@@thecaseclosedpikachufiles
They actually nickednamed him “Shelob’s Sneak” and knew he and Shelob had an understanding. They knew he wasn’t and orc and when he was released from Barad-dûr they were ordered to let him pass

The only reason not to watch some of the videos is because they would spoil second age stuff. I still enjoy watching RoP as a generic fantasy show despite everything, and I probably want to read the Silmarillion one day as well. But good stuff and keep it up. You seem very genuine and authentic in your opinions, some people might not like you being a "hater" (which is why most YT'ers avoid presenting themselves that way) but I appreciate you not giving a sh*t

Looking forward to it!

Loved Smeagol/Gollum in the movies... Serkis was magnificent
Yeah he was perfect for the role and truly gave it new life
I do believe this is the most complete and best account of Gollum's tale I have seen!
Thank you! An honour to be at your service 😁

@@CounciloftheRings I think he did although it was probably exaggerated as such things often are.
In "The Hobbit" you can read that Gollum caught goblin children in the caves, and ate them.

Thanks for such a thorough character breakdown, Council! 😃

Thank you for the good breakdown and summarisation of the character, for a guy who has never read the books this is very helpful
Glad to hear it!
You can't help but feel that little bit sorry for him
As someone who's been trying to get into LotR lore, this is perfect

This was awesome, learning about Gollum and his past. So much information leading towards Fellowship of the Ring that I didn't know.
Thank you!
No problem! I also got one about the Balrog, Shelob and Sauron in the Second Age 😁
Didn't know his name wasn't actually Smeagol. Very informative. All i knew before this was his encounter with Bilbo and his part in lord of the rings
I got another video discussing if he actually ate babies or not, as well 😁

Gollum ate babies? Wow, glad they didn't put that in the movies, lol.
Hahaha yeah indeed
No..crunchable birdses..no succulent babies..we are famished!
It's mentioned in the hunt for gollum fanfilm
Flower symbol of Sunshine State: Orange blossom
Semi gollum was scary as a kid. Serkis crawling around with that makeup was too much.

Hello 😊
Hi 😊
RIP Gollum: the Game
May 25-30, 2023
Speedrunners managed to softlock the game in 30 seconds.
Shit, I used to speak fucking Elvish. There are a ton of things I hear in this video, and want to translate to Elvish, and just don't remember the words.
what happened to the great hobbits in the years that passed after gollum disappeared?
History, alas, does not tell.
You know you're here because of the Gollum news ;)
Much like Frodo, i pitied him.
He’s a great character worth any pity, I’d say
Prefer Peter Woodthorpe. Didn’t rely on squeaky mannerisms. Made him more child like.
Dang ol' AI grandma, lol.
