I fully agree with you. With new cars, it’s pick your poison. Turbocharged, direct injection only, cylinder deactivation, CVT, the list goes on and on. The only survivor that I can think of that is devoid of these compromises is the Toyota 4Runner. Get it while you can.
I cant find an air filter for the 500h anyplace! They always give me a square shaped version that does not fit the rectangular opening as shown in this video... even the dealer did not have anything in the parts department!! Any suggestions out there?
Thank you for this post. Unfortunately our modern age is delivering over complicated, over engineered power trains. I am Not impressed. Why have dual fuel? Oh that's right because Di is a carbon nightmare for the valves! What did we accomplish? You can get just as good fuel economy with a stand alone MPI! Why have a turbo or hybrid electric motors? We have seen 30+ MPG with a naturally aspirated MPI engines with a standard six speed transmission. I don't want to sound like a hater, but seriously, why over complicate? No good reason. There is no significant power or economy gains with these over engineered systems. Just give me a simple MPI, naturally aspirated engine that has not lost it's identity. LOL HAGD, God bless.
Thank you for the run down on the systems and engine!
1:55 500h requires 91 octane or better, explicitly stated in the manual due to increased boost and timing over 350h. 350h 2.4 you can run 87 octane.

It's because this can deliver that mpg and also product 300+ horsepower. That is the "why".
