To me the RX is well built but does not use better materials compared to Porsche and competitors as you speak of. For context, I own a 17 Cayenne GTS and a '16 911 4s and I purchased a 500H for my wife since she wanted one. No leather dash, leather upper door card inserts, no metal anywhere, and plastic inserts everywhere puts the RX well below a Porsche model in terms of "better materials used". In today's build quality (where all manufacturers can't help themselves to cheap out everywhere), I would say the RX does pretty well. But, if you were to compare this to previous gen RX, IS, and GX models I would say this is pretty meh. Getting squeaks out of the central cubby and the alcantara/suede insert on the dash isn't firmly in place. I took it to the service department and I was literally told "this is just the build quality on these cars now, had a ton of customers have the same complaints and there's literally nothing we can do".

@@SDav21 we have the previous RX350 with 290hp and 3.5L V6. Very smooth engine, quiet, responsive, ultra reliable. In the 7 years we had it , zero warranty claim, zero repairs, zero problem. Hell, even the original Panasonic car battery is still working…. 7 years… going into 8…. Why don’t they sell Panasonic car batteries here? The only down side of this car is the fuel economy, while it’s not any worse than its rivals, we average 10-11L/100km mostly free way driving…. If the newer model can go down to 8-9L/100km even with a 4 cylinder with higher torque…. I’m happy. Either way, I’m sticking with Lexus, it’s nice to not spend big bucks in repairs while cruising in comfort.
Then the same should be said about the Range Rover Evoque. It’s nothing but a Ford Focus. The previous Volvo S60 was sitting on a Mazda 3 platform. Get under a Lamborghini or a Porsche and see how many parts are from Volkswagen. It’s just the way it is now.

Have to disagree. I was blown away by the quality of the RX. I currently have 2 x BMW's and was previously an Audi driver. Went to look at a new Q5 and GLC. Audi felt like I was sitting on the seat and not in the seat and GLC was all bling and too much plastic. RX just felt right and I am really fussy when it comes to the quality of the materials used. I know most folk will go for the 350h but I think the base 350 may just be a bit more agile given its lighter body weight - but obviously a compromise on efficiency. I like the few "party tricks" the RX has like the electronic door handles and the electronic self setting steering wheel/seat combo and electric rear seats. Very nice!!

Launched in October :)
Sorry to hear you've had a disappointing experience with the brand. Have you reached out to Lexus SA at all?
Take my money
Nobody contacted me when I advertised my SUV via your website.

Did he say entry level R1.5M???? Two cherry tiggo 8 pro max's fully kitted with change? Def not worth it!
Cherry tiggo8 is also 2x Mahindra xuv100, tiggo8 is definitely not worth it
@ilovhotmail hahaha toućhe. Just googled the XUV100 and its not in the same class as the Tiggo 8.
Dont get 2 of those for this. From comfort to saftey to interior size to engine power its all behind.
Someone looking to buy a Macan will not opt for a rebadged Toyota. That's the problem with Lexus, brilliant as they may be.
😂 The macan uses a vw motor. Toyota may own lexus but to call it a rebadged toyota is a joke. The gr86 and brz are rebadged.
i think price is shocking for all cars in this segment
Over bmw x5..? That's very hard to over pass.
X5 is a terrific car but by the time you add the same options as the Lexus you are well past the Lexus's price trag
Lexis are high quality n design top notch but problem is price...1.5m there are x3 base x5, toureg etc so no one will buy it😢😢😢
Lexus used to care about the nurburgring :(.
Matt Watson is the best car reviewer… the others are just boring
The engine should really have been a 6 cylinder at least. Those 4 cylinder sound so gruff and not as refined as a 6 or 8.
Our fuel cost R23 a L..... I think 4 banger with high torque is fine
@@Ilikepie18855 No it isn't. A 4 cylinder in such a large car isn't more fuel efficient than a well sorted 6 cylinder.
I’m happy. Either way, I’m sticking with Lexus, it’s nice to not spend big bucks in repairs while cruising in comfort.
interesting to see Ciro uses an android phone 😂😂😂
expensive RAV4
As if your opinion means more than an actual car journalist.
the NX is based on the RAV4 platform. The RX is a much larger car than a RAV4
Then the same should be said about the Range Rover Evoque. It’s nothing but a Ford Focus. The previous Volvo S60 was sitting on a Mazda 3 platform. Get under a Lamborghini or a Porsche and see how many parts are from Volkswagen. It’s just the way it is now.
that's what it is@@MAH-id3sx

R1,7m oh never on a Lexus
Yuh hay yeka 😂😂😂
U started the review after 80 seconds omg...
👨🏿💻🍿
youll never seperate south africans and german cars unless you become so cheap its hard to overlook. if this was in the range of 1-1,2mill then it would sell like hot cakes then when they facelift it they gradually raise the prices year on year or, "model after model"
You can't expect to pay Tiguan money for a Lexus RX that is levels above the Vw
Jaguar once did that with the first Gen XF . The car was a success, but when they priced the second gen at the same price it failed dismally.
@@MAH-id3sx I know but, Lexus doesnt have the same sentimental value as the Tiguan unfortunately.
Second 😂
If the campany gives me this car for free there won't be any regrets trust me....... please consider this comment 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤😑😑
This vehicle does not look like it’s a cent more than R975k. Imagine buying something for 10million which looks like it’s worth 1k. Same effect here
You're not buying this for the looks you're buying it for the quality
@@BubblesTheCat1 yeah but nah. It’s overpriced. Consumers need to regain control of the market
@Ash-so6qn Ain't happening. People are some of the stupidest animals on earth. I mean like, cmon, people burn tyres and protest about poor service delivery day in and day out, but come the next election, they put their cross next to that very same people that they're protesting against. The mind absolutely boggles🙄🙄🙄🙄 God help us🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Have to disagree.
Very nice!!
@robleal9755 With Toyota and Lexus, you can not go wrong. The Germans' quality is downright disappointing. T & L are almost the only carmaker that still value their vehicles and customers 😁👍🏻🙋🏼♂️
