  • This is an easy, clean and fast install method for hard wiring and hiding the wires to your dashcam. It took me less than 45 minutes to complete this install. This is a 2022 Forester Limited and I am hardwiring a Garmin Dashcam. You would need a hardwire harness to match your dashcam along with the ATM-LP fuse tap shown in this video. Feel free to post a question in the comments section.

    Finished my dash cam install yesterday. Put a VIOFO A139 2 channel into a 2023 Subaru Forester Touring. The absolute hardest part was getting the fuse tap into the fuse slot. That took 2 hours. I guess it just took the right amount of brut force. I was worried I was going to break the whole fuse panel. I had the exact same P9 panel in your video and used the same empty slot you did. Everything else went very smoothly in large part because of your video. I think the rest took 1 hour. I did a rear cam and a Powercell 8 instead of drawing from the car battery for parking mode. Thanks so much for taking the time and for saving me likely hours of time trying to figure things out. Oh...also did the same A-Pillar tie down you did just to not mess with that airbag.

    "Load" is being confused with hot. Fuses themselves don't have electrical polarity, but may have mechanical polarity. Fuse taps have polarity to either daisy chain from or to daisy chain from the existing hot side. If wired incorrectly, the existing fuse will be in series with the addon fuse. When wired correctly, both fuses will share a common hot side. It's also imperative to check the voltage on the hot side to be sure it matches the expected input range of the DC buck converter (to USB usually) supplied in the hardwired kit.

    When you disconnect the negative battery terminal, securely place something non-conductive over it; I modified a beer cozy to do this. Leaving the negative cable loose under the hood as you're moving around inside the car means it's free to move about and touch something metal, thus grounding the DC circuit and defeating the purpose of disconnecting it.

    • @californiahikebike
      @californiahikebike  2 роки тому

      I like that. I propped it securely against the side of the battery booking it against the battery tie down. But you can't be too careful.

  • @rangersmith4652
    @rangersmith4652 2 роки тому +2

    The way to do this for parking coverage is to use a fused circuit that's powered with the ignition off, but ideally to also install a toggle switch on the positive side between the fuse and the device. That way, you can choose to de-power the dash cam when it's not needed, such as when you park in your own garage. If possible, install the toggle switch next to your start button so it's easy to just click on or off as needed as you start and stop the engine.

    • @californiahikebike
      @californiahikebike  2 роки тому +1

      For those that want that functionality good advice. I like to keep it simple. The one time I forget to flip the toggle is the one time Murphy's law kicks in! Lol

    The "load" side is the side with the wire (that goes to your load) the hot/feed side is the one opposite the wire that needs to go to power from the car. Nice video though!

    • @californiahikebike
      @californiahikebike  2 роки тому +1

      I may have used the wrong terminology but I'll stand by what I meant as far as what side goes where. The hot side coming into the fuse tap needs to be away from the wire as shown in the video but I understand what you are saying as well. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
