Just found this little gem in my old 7" record box... and still lovin it in 2020!!! The first and only gith record I ever brought... apart from She Sell Sanctuary by The Cult... happy days lol
Man its goth but its music, so ic temple, album by the cult, its like she sells, but pretty much a whole album but before she sells album came out, or maybe after i can't remember. seriously man, if you like rock music, get it, its good👍
@@noeyes6151sonic temple was after. Imo it sucked bc they sold out for popularity fame and money, but it just appealed to another demographic of music listeners. The album that she sells is off of is called “Love”. The entire album is awesome. It’s like hard-rock-goth stuff, which somehow works extremely well.
Those BBC recordings (John Peel, David Skinner, Janice Long, and Kid Jensen sessions) were finally released officially on CD within the last year, in case you'd like to upgrade...
I had a best of, goldy album cover, can't remember the name (threw all the boxes and paper bits away coz, space) but it was well good, didnt get any more of their stuff but if that was their best of im sure they had some sweet as fuck album tracks
People forget that the pentagramm being used as a "satanic" symbol is extremely new and began with Lavey satanism. Before that this sign was used in classic occultism (=alchemy, Kaballah, Theurgy and alike) and Christian mysticism. The sign's origin traces back to the stone age and it was mostly a seal against evil spirits and to channel divine powers. Christians used it too as a symbol for the five wounds of jesus. Thanks to Lavey, Crowley and horror movies for making it a sign of the devil...
F***ing marvellous :D, brings back a LOT of good memories. Was there ever a video of this? I seem to remember them on TOTP, and I own a lot of goth/punk/greebo/metal videos both for single bands and compilations, but cant find this at the moment.
Assume we want to read the alphanumerical variable name, in C. char name[20]. Is it correct to write: scanf("%s",&name); OR scanf("%s",name); Can anyone please answer me. Thanx in advance.
tbh, i don't think there's ever really been such a thing as what we would call 'devil worship'. it's mostly propaganda/panic. modern philosophical satanism appropriated the pentagram because the christian church taught that witchcraft, 'paganism' + 'devil worship' were all pretty much interchangeable. they inverted it to make it their own, essentially. there are lots of genuine satanist bands. the most famous is probably marilyn manson. their purpose is to advertise 'aberrant' perspectives.
sry if it seemed like i was challenging you or something, btw. it's not my intention, but things like tone + inflection are hard to put over through plain text. =0)
@captainunload Pentagram linked to devil worshipping is what the modern religion made from it, it is an older symbol with more meanings. It's allso a symbol referring to completeness and venus/woman. If you truly want to know the meaning of this symbol on their LP than it could be: 1. Someone in the band itnerested to esoteric and occult stuff so putting some symbols in it. 2. It was the punk/new wave/gothic period => rebelling to mainstream stuff, criticism on politics, religion, etc.
@aeolthelwen I know regular pentagrams are often associated with other religions. But I think when they're upside down that is normally associated with devil worship. I'm no expert, just think it looks weird.
It may not be out of the ordinary for a progressive band to be hostile toward Christianity. But it is impossible for an "intelligent" one to be so. ;-) Regarding your comment about the association of pentegrams with satanism vs. devil worship, I can't confirm or deny that with any kind of certainty. Do you have any kind of source you could cite for that?
captainunload mystery religions don’t tell the normal people their secrets. Witchcraft. ( I’m a Christian who was once agnostic and used to love goth, still do really, but I think many of its bands were at least dabblers in occultism.) honestly who wasn’t the reading was weird and interesting.
The "swastika" is not a native american symbol but, the symbol of a spinning four directions that looked like a swastika is very much used by many tribes. Since always. However, fuck anyone trying to excuse the modern usage by citing Native Americans.
Regarding your first paragraph, I'm not sure that pentagrams, upside down or otherwise, are not tied to devil worship as well. I suspect they're used in both, even if the frequency is greater in one over the other. Regarding your second paragraph: What would be the problem? Well, it depends on what you mean. I'm not saying the song itself becomes evil or something not to listen to, but such an aberrant religious perspective being advertised so blatantly seems odd.
I agree that Satanism and devil worship aren't necessarily the same thing, but I can't confirm devil worshippers never use that symbol. I've heard the 3 points facing down are supposed to be representative of an insult to the Trinity. Regarding your other contention, I think a lot of opposition to Christianity comes from ignorance of it or a misunderstanding of it.
I'm slowly discovering that post-punk and goth rock really work for me and the March Violets have been a great gateway into that.
There were some great bands back then, especially in and around Leeds and that area. Check out Red Lorry Yellow Lorry as well as the obvious ones like The Sisters of Mercy and The Mission.
Two thumbs up for Caput's recommendations. If you're still enjoying the post-punk/goth world check out Danse Society, criminally underrated group.
Check out The Mission - they're on tour from the end of Feb 2020. Still excellent live: www.themissionuk.com/wp/europarty/
