My first Cocteau experience - too many years back than I care to count right now, but I've never tired of this song - and your vid is cool. I especially like the vortex at the beginning, as the guitars amp up. Oh, Dave, you may recall my faux lyric "...Diana Ross-ary, Diana Ross-ary, Diana Ross-a-ry". Sorry, that's getting pretty old, huh?
No to mention at 02:08 "For with these skull scarfs Credits card maxed My credits card maxed... Whoa, with these plane scarfs or more than 2 mm, more than 2..." She is messing with us, I tell ya.
Let's not forget the infamous NME comic strip (1991) where Elizabeth is supposed to be singing from her shopping list: "Ch-Ch-Cherry Cola Dreft... eft... eft Cotton Buds...Cotton... Wool, Lemondrops, Lemonade. Sherbet Lemmons. Spices Calamine Lotion... otion Canteloop Melons..." The band themselves thought it was funny.
I remember that! Was your Sesame Street the US version, or did they do one with a British group of character creatures and neighborhood folk? Oh, my favorite kids educational show came on after Sesame Street, it was called "The Electric Company" - very 70's groovy, with early video editing tricks. They too, had each show "sponsored by the number '7' & the letter "S", or whatever. I'll have to look for clips of it, as it remains a cult favorite for my generation. PS: I just took my meds!
I didn't know about that strip in NME. That is quite funny, and yeah, cherry cola sounds right on the money. What the hell was Liz planning on cooking with those ingredients, anyway? After consuming that concoction, no wonder she had calamine lotion on her shopping list - anyone who ate it would at the very least get hives. I also hope she added Pepto-Bismol for the likely severe intestinal distress such a meal would produce!
I always thought Ernie & Burt were more than Friends!. Last Christmas, someone gave me an "Ernie Loves Burt" Button for my back-pack. I loved little Grover, and had a cat years ago with that nick-name. They were almost identical 'cept the cat wasn't blue and his nose was not quite so round. Oh, what about the mysterious mammoth creature, only visible, as I recall, to Big BIrd: Aloysius Snuffleupagus?!? Maybe an inspiration to the "Treasure" track Aloysius, after all???
Big Bird was just a little too big for me, and whiny or something. I think I'd have run away from him if I found myself on Sesame Street. I liked Oscar the Grouch - reminds me of my Ex. The Cocteaus guesting on Sesame Street? - wow that would have been weird. "Pearly.." would be a nice choice, or maybe Fluffy Tufts with some of the hairier creatures on the show.
