It’s a fantastic album. I’ve been a fan since their first album. It’s definitely better than their last two. I might place it 4th or 5th best in their discography.
1.) Adrenaline - I think will be hit/miss for everyone. Some die-hard Deftones fans will hold onto this one dearly because it's the FIRST Deftones Album (and I consider myself a pretty big Deftones fan, they are in my top 3). But outside of Bored and Engine No. 9, it doesn't do much for me, personally. BUT THAT'S JUST ME. 2.) Around The Fur - Not the greatest, but a SOLID fucking album. "My Own Summer", "Be Quiet & Drive", and "Lotion", kind of make this album a staple. 3.) White Pony - Highly regarded as their best work, but not for me personally. But, I could DEFINITELY listen to this album for hours, from beginning to end and back and forth between tracks. It opens well, with "Feiticeira", "Digital Bath" is one of my personal favorites, as well as "Passenger" and "Change (in the House of Flies)". 4.) Deftones (Self-Titled) - ALMOST a masterpiece in conveying emotion through sound, but the further you go in, the more it falls a little flat. IT STARTS SOOO HARD with, "Hexagram", "Pins and Needles", and hits a high with "Minerva", but then starts to fizzle. NOT TO SAY the rest is bad, it just has you feeling like GIVE ME MORE, PLEASE!!!! 5.) Saturday Night Wrist - Did NOT appreciate when it first came out, but then it really grew on me. I appreciate it as it was intended to be - an experiment/new direction in their sound. "Hole in the Earth" is great, I LOVE the breakdown in "Beware", and Chi's Bass Line in "Cherry Waves" is absolutely incredible (R.I.P Chi). I'm not a big fan of the jazzy/post-rock/space elements in this album, but I'm really big on the heavier sound found within the tracks. 6.) Diamond Eyes - I think this is the album that started making me have an appreciation for the heavy, 8-string sound in general. It's always a pleasure to go back and listen to Diamond Eyes, for me personally. There's a ferocity to this album as it flies by at 180 mph, especially on "Rocket Skates" and "Royal". "Diamond Eyes" is slower in cadence, but has an equally powerful feel. 7.) Koi No Yokan - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how this album feels like it's all done in a one-take. Transitions between songs is sooo smooth. "Rosemary" is my favorite Deftones song and "Entombed" is really up there as well. The album also starts off VERY strong with "Swerve City" and "Romantic Dreams" (my wife doesn't really like Deftones that much, but she likes the song "Romantic Dreams"). 8.) Gore - Did not enjoy. I can't say too much about it. I'm not a big fan of the air/space and feel like the reverb is overly done. It doesn't feel like a proper Deftones album. The closest I think you might get is "Doomed User" on the hard side and maybe "Phantom Bride" on the softer side, but outside of that, overall, I just wasn't feeling it. Not to hurt any Gore fans out there, it just didn't make the cut for me, personally. 9.) Ohms - I was/am happy for because it has a lot going for it that I truly appreciate. It feels like a return to sound coming off of Gore, so it feels like a breath of fresh air. It's definitely not one of their strongest albums, but it's got more good than bad. The first 3 tracks are strong and I feel like "Radiant City" is pretty good. I don't know why they chose "Ohms" as their debut track for the album. It wasn't the strongest card in the hand/set, I feel. It's not a bad song, but hell, I feel like "Ceremony" or "Genesis" would've lent it more commercial success. But the reviews were very positive, so I think overall, it did very well, and sonically, the album has excellent quality. I think it's missing some of the heavy breakdowns that I enjoy, maybe some of the somber and emptiness I would get out of something like the in-between sections of "Rosemary", but that's okay. I can live with that, as long as it's a good album (and it is).
@@sweetypuss I didn't put Adrenaline at the lowest rank, I put them in Chronological order of release. I also didn't rank them, I just expressed my thoughts on them.

The first time I listened to the Ohms album I was on the same page of "yeah this is definitely their worst album, it sucks", but I said I'd give some tracks such as Ohms, Headless, Urantia and some others that I found to stand out from the others another chance. After that, I got to love the entire album from the bottom of my heart. The way my whole perspective on the songs changed is crazy. It has grown on me so much it became my favorite Deftones album, close to Koi No Yokan which is the second. These two are the only two Deftones album from which I love every single song. The others have some meh songs as well. I strongly advise you to give Ohms a second chance, because you're missing out on so much gold from those tracks
I respect Fantano for speaking his mind without any form of sugar coating, never pretending not to be biased. But his fanbase is absolute scum and take his word as gospel and have this cult behavior of trying to justify and reafirm what he says even when it's just, like I said before, his opinion. Deftones have yet to put out a bad album, and to me that's a fact.
Ohms is really pretty painful to listen to. Like actually fuzzy and rough, no space. Koi No Yokan is like a 7 to me though, a little bland but kinda slams.
Funny you say that because I was watching one of his livestreams recently about classics week and he got suggested White Pony a lot and he wrote it down on the list of ones he would consider doing a classic review on.
6/10 isn't that bad, might be enjoyable music but it's definitely not close to a masterpiece. The problem with fans of any bands is they just find the sound of their band perfect so they think if the album delivers on everything they want it's a masterpiece. If you don't like Muse most of their music will be passable but if you are a fan you probablt think most of their albums are 9/10 minimum. I love Dertones but I'm not under any illusion im listening to the best music on earth when listening to them even when it's their best albums lmao If you think you're not biased just check out how Linkin Park fans talk about LP lmao
The problem is taking what fantano says with such anger. I love deftones and I thing ohms is decent, but if fantano dislikes it, I wouldn't care, it's his opinion and I don't need to get mad at him. We can agree to disagree in regards of music, but getting annoyed at his opinions is kinda lame. But I agree that Koi No Yokan is to good for a 6.
Yeah but it's also okay to feel different, Anthony would be the first to tell you music is subjective. It's how he feels, you can disagree & think it's a 9 / 10 it's fine and valid for you.
Not to play the “fan since est” but there really are two groups of Deftones fans. The later fans seem to not realize they’ve been making the same record Saturday night wrist. White pony and around the fur are classics and diamond eyes is the top later deftones album. Getting around the fur right when it came out was and exciting time for it to go into white pony. It’s good to see a second wave of fans but I get being there in the moment and listening to things in retrospect.
"they’ve been making the same records since saturday night wrist" would only be a valid statement if half the albums made after SNW (namely diamond eyes and koi no yokan) literally just didn't exist lmao you're a nutcase
I’m not sure how you listen to Adrenaline and snw and go it’s the same record. I think you need your ears checked and more importantly your head checked. What you probably mean to say is they have been evolving their sound each record so it sounds like a natural progression. Even with that said there’s so much variety in styles and experimentation in-between it’s hard to even say it’s an evolution in their sound. You would never think Lucky you and My own summer is made by the same band. I do think there are two waves of fans. The white pony band wagon jumpers who likely hopped off on snw. The other are the ones who hopped on from Diamond eyes and have stuck around since.
fatano, fantano not sure why ur opinion is so popular but if u know ur not a deftones fan then why listen and insult the diehard detones fans.
Ohms is their best album by a mile for me. I don't even like their other stuff, I just like ohms
The Spell of Mathematics is at least a top 10 Deftones song, I will not be convinced otherwise.
@@sebastianreyes3230 sameeee
I prefer most of their stuff from SNW onwards. 'Ohms' and 'Koi...' are exceptional.
Everyone talks about his mbdtf review but his score for Koi No Yokan might be his worst one
Ohms - 4, Gore - 9, Koi No Yokan - 9. These are my opinion for the rankings.
Fantano has some piss poor takes sometimes. Used to listen to his reviews alot, but this man is high for kny.
Snw over koi no Yokan is crazy 💀
Ohms is really pretty painful to listen to. Like actually fuzzy and rough, no space. Koi No Yokan is like a 7 to me though, a little bland but kinda slams.
Can't trust anyone who doesn't rate 'Koi No Yokan'
I know it doesn’t drive engagement, but he should definitely review one of their good albums at some point.
I love Dertones but I'm not under any illusion im listening to the best music on earth when listening to them even when it's their best albums lmao
If you think you're not biased just check out how Linkin Park fans talk about LP lmao
@@TroubledTrooper it's not fine and valid it's an ignorant opinion that you can only have if you don't know much music
It’s not that they “don’t realize” something it’s that they like the music lol
He's pretty much right about Gore and Ohms.
Let's face it, he doesn't like Deftones. Please don't review then anymore. We already know what you're going to say.
The only adults who like Deftones have at least one eyebrow pierced and are approximately 3 months behind child support payments
Based
bro what lol
Incel spotted
Now that's some solid projecting. Good job.
Are you sure you’re not talking about Godsmack, OP?
Melon has a lot of really bad takes on rock and metal. I tend to ignore these reviews. Lmao
gore is an 8 koi is a 9 or a 10 and ohms is either a 7 or an 8. Now give me the arguments that will change my mind (there are none)
you are entitled to your opinion
I give this dude a minus 5 billion.
don’t take any of this guys reviews seriously ever 😂
Rock really just isn't his vibe, he gives every rock album an average or below average rating😂
fatano, fantano not sure why ur opinion is so popular but if u know ur not a deftones fan then why listen and insult the diehard detones fans. If u didn’t like The first few albums u listen to then you obviously just don’t get it I promise, dude, Deftones fans do not care about your opinion of deftones
Rating Gore a 4 is just ignorant and stupid.
Damn. I was just thinking Fantano should do a Worst to Best of Deftones discography... and then I watched this video
Ohms was so boring i honestly agree.
all accurate ratings ngl
Who cares?! This guy is a clown 🤡
Chino could diarrhea into the microphone for 2 hours straight and Deftones fans would get mad that people don’t think it’s high art.
do you know how many deftones fans don't like gore or ohms? they are not one of those fanbases that goes rabid for everything they do
I bet you like shit like Slipknot, Metallica and all those noisy bands 💀
I will not tolerate the glazing of gore or ohms, bottom barrel albums.
Different opinion = glazing
but he gives a mumble rap mixtape a SOLID 10/10 🤡
Because it's a justified 10 in it's genre. How you can't understand that?
@CYB3R2K true. Different genres even though i generally find most rap to be bland i understand different styles demand different criteria . We dont expect great vocals on most rappers lol or hitting high notes
@@ishrendon6435 ask Chino to rap decently with flow. He would suck too
@@CYB3R2K exactly
@@CYB3R2K my point different criteria cant expect yg or nba youngboy to be Freddie mercury or vice versa that was my point . Both are music but specialize in different areas in how they express themselves you just validated my point byt also chino does rap well if youve hesrd early tracks......hes good
This dude has the worst takes on music ever.
Everything after White Pony is just not that good, but the first 3 albums are classics with Around The Fur being numero uno
Hate deftones
tbh koi no yokan deserves a lower rating
I'm suprised that people like Ohms and not Gore. I have opposite feelings.
we dont talk about ohms.....
white pony tho solid 10
Considering Anthony fantain called nu-metal a passing phase that was only listened to by neckbeard dad bods I really don't think he's credible to speak on the quality of what the Deftones represents both in the music Craft and Nuance of a genre they have created all on their own and how much they have inspired so many dark tone vaporware and general subsonic emotional music
