Got this gut feeling that Will is going to make one of those awesome dads who tells his kid/s the most amazing bedtime stories.

Welcome to fatherhood, Will. Personally I disagree with the whole "the day my kid was born was the happiest say of my life" lark. Every time your kid does something new, learns something new or surprises you in a new way its going to fill you up with joy and wonder, that's the gift of parenthood.
It just keeps getting better, my dude :)

Eldritch Knight is a difficult beast to play at low levels the way most people keep trying to play it, and I find it pretty dissapointing to see so many builds that essentially exclude that, instead, going for high level builds where you have access to 2nd Level spell slots already.
However, I've found that if you treat it like a racial exclusive class it suddenly works (i.e. as a fighter who is supplementing their power with magic). And to do that, you have to play a variant human and take the Magic Initiate feat. And, the to best spell lists to choose from are the Wizard (obvious) and the Cleric.
Now, the Wizard class will give you two free cantrips, of which I recommend 'Light' and a ranged damaging one you roll to attack for. After that, for the leveled spell, you choose 'Tasha's Hideous Laughter'. A great shut down spell for one big guy. From there, you'll spend your career trying to get STR and INT to 18, an easy enough feat with Point Buy, of which you'll typically dump your DEX to help you keep a reasonable amount in your CON score.
[ *1st Level spells of note after:* Grease, Charm Person, Cause Fear, Silent Image (some DMs aren't too kind to illusion spell, but explaining how you'll basically have 3 spells every long rest tends to make even those kinds of DMs lighten up)]
The Cleric class is the one you'll pick if you want to focus more on defense and not have a high INT score (you can even make it a dump score too, but that means you'll be choosing all of your cantrips for utility rather than offense, but that's par for the course with this build anyway). From there, you'll typically choose 'Light' and 'Guidance', but the real clincher is that you'll choose 'Shield of Faith' as your leveled spell. From there, you'll build yourself a tank. Taking the 'Defense' fighting style, and grabbing the 'Sentinel' feat when you can since smarter enemies will, obviously, not want to be stuck next to someone they basically can't harm.
[ *1st Level spells of note after:* Shield, Absorb Elements, Protection from Good and Evil (heavily situation)]

Eldritch Adept for Darkvision, unarmed fighting style, Tavern brawler using manacles with darkness cast on them. Add Mage Slayer and sentinel if possible.

According to the wiki- it was Ted Brautigan who used a mind spear. (Played by Anthony Hopkins in Hearts in Atlantis)

my high lvl dex eldritch knight would use long bow multi attack to spread the spell save disadvantage the turn before dropping a fireball. you dont even need a very good int if you are debuffing with your weapon attacks.

Eragon started with 6 levels of Eldritch knight, then gained 10 in bladesinger, then finished out his leveling going half and half in each, to have a final split of 8 Eldritch Knight and 12 Bladesinger.
Additionally he has a Dragon companion and about 100 legendary items at the end of his story.
Edit: after some reflection on the subject, I have come to the conclusion that while he bladesinger is a more somatic choice for his wizard levels, I personally believe that mechanically take bladesinger levels, but instead took War magic levels. We might also be able to spread out that split of levels a little bit more to maybe an even 10 and 10 to better reflect his abilities in physical combat. That being said, realistically it is just too difficult to fully flesh out all of his abilities within these standard 20 levels of character in D&D and to accurately represent how powerful he becomes with magic and how skilled he becomes with the sword by a character that is well beyond the standard level 20 cap

That is a very good split for Eragon. Super nicely done. Yeah Eragon was a great series. Might need to re-read them again soon

Additionally, if you take 7 levels of eldritch knight, and 6 levels of bladesinger, you can make 2 weapon attacks instead of 1 if you cast a cantrip. Combine that with absorb elements, and you can possibly deal a lot of dpr, if you use a cantrip with an attack roll, like fire bolt. Imagine having haste, flame arrows, or shadow blade on top of all that, too. And this is just at level 13.

I heard that eldritch knight sucks in DDO :(
Also I think Will is actually a shapeshifter and just transformed into Jake.
