  • Although New Jersey is not known for having as many giant largemouth bass compared to some southern states in the United States, New Jersey still has amazing sport fisheries. Although this lake in Central New Jersey is not close to being a big lake, it is just an example of somewhere small and local that provides very good fishing results and has an amazing ecosystem. Looking forward to going back to this lake pretty soon and figuring it out throughout the years.

It's good that you are building confidence in your kayak fishing. Not skunking is a big deal especially when you film.

We had large brown dragonflies in the lake where I fished in NJ. I used a topwater brown frog and killed it on Pickeral and bass.

As a Virginia transplant, I was led to believe New Jersey was and has always been a state in which one would be best advised to avoid at any and all costs. Just ain't so. When I came here 17 years ago, I sought out my constant companions: the bush beaters- e.g., fellow outdoors people and to narrow the subset a little more, fishermen and women. I soon discovered a bunch of people who lived, ate, and slept fishing. Let me say, to my mind, NJ is an angler's paradise. It is centrally located. I can access great panfishing, great bass buggin'- I generally flyfish when not throwing long lines for y'all's population of the local catfish population. I can also access the finest salt water fishing I have EVER experienced. The species variety is mind-boggling year round. I am saying world class. I've fished this world over courtesy of my understanding, generous and hard working wife. More on the amazing Farmer Beth later... if I continue to post comments or start a channel. Okay, back to my adopted state. It suffices to say New Jersey has it all when it comes to piscatorial dreams made flesh. Those of you looking at NJ with exit eyes, refineries and rude folks are going to wonder about this somewhat deranged fellow. Well, that's alright. Your vision might just be a bit jaded, brethren. I came here with prejudices far more skewed than your own, so I had me some attitude adjustment to undergo and, boy, did y'all show me how wrong I was. You good SOUTH Jersey people are in a class of your own! Remember, those of you who think New Jersey is New Jersey is New Jersey might do well to reconsider that. North Jersey folks are are as different from my beloved South Jersey people as one can imagine. In fact as I travel around this fair outdoor jewel, I am treated to honesty and frankness second to none. You don't waste time in New Jersey trying to figure out where you stand with someone. Nobody beats around the proverbial bush here. In Virginia it takes 20 years to discover someone has despised you all along. Here, you need only 2 minutes to find whether you are acceptable or not. South Jersey folks don't waste your time. I realize to some I might have strayed a bit from the matter at hand, but if you can stick with me for another long-winded blurb, you will catch my drift.
To wrap up...do I hear a huge sigh of relief?! Since intruding upon all of your good graces, I have fished the finest waters (Yep... the finest), and had the good luck to get to know the most delightful characters I ever had the good fortune to encounter. I have caught more varied species than you can shake a stick at, and discovered a state possessed of the finest people and finest fishing this old world has to offer. I hope I have piqued your curiosity sufficiently to find out who this apparent escapee ftom Bedlam is and what does he want with us. Fair enough. I'll talk about fishing, obviously. Spots both good and not so go good and all the good, and again, not so good information I discover. I hope y'all will help me in my pursuit of this state's fishing. What y'all can do for me is to help me learn more about the state of the salt because although I have a lot to share on freshwater, I need a lot of direction concerning saltwater from the simplest rigs, baits and lures, the fish you go after and where and how I might increase my pitifully small knowledge on the mysterious...to me...ways of the saltwater fisherman. Thanks for slogging through all this palaver and overlooking my grammatical hiccups but know your input is crucial to increasing my know-how on the ways of the shore. Thank you many times over for taking me in. Remember: what you consider common knowledge about the shore is, as Fleetwood Mac says "A Mystery To Me". Stay well, be happy and best wishes from a painfully long-winded interloper. Your most truly, Va. Cork
