Ohio city is one of those fascinating places that you either get,or don’t get.
West side market is pure legend.
Avoid weekends,Friday is the best, weekends are too crowded and the other weekdays, many vendors are closed.
I went there once,at like 6 AM,and just watched all the vendors bustling around with their butchered lamb and chickens and stuff,it was amazing to see west side market prep in progress.
Back in 1988,me and my friends would go see a newly formed band called ‘Nine Inch Nails’.
Maybe a hundred people would show up.
After the show, some of us would go to Trent Reznor’s house in Ohio city!
It was a pretty dumpy house, actually,ha
But yeah,Ohio city is for the creative minded, open minded type of personality, prepare for the most randomly interesting things there!

I feel like it’s very niche. It attracts a handful of wealthy young people who are really committed to Cleveland and urban living. They’re almost single-handedly trying to will the city back to life. I’m definitely pulling for it, but I feel like they need to address the still ubiquitous blight, high crime and surprisingly high cost of living to really transform the neighborhood to its former glory. I love the concept, but for half a million dollars to start for one of those remodels on a postage stamp of a lot, I’d still rather live in one of the outer ring ‘burbs at this point.

      You make good points,for sure.
It’s definitely that neighborhood that can go either way,and the days of it being the hipster transition is pretty much gone.
It’s the newer investors in the place that are making the changes, but that takes time, and then there is the whole issue of gentrification, where do the original residents go from there?
      I don’t know.
That is the eternal real estate conundrum with communities that get re discovered when down, but then get re discovered with the up potential…

Hi, I'm visiting Cleveland for the first time, just for four days this November (2024) and I was wondering which area / district I should stay. In the evenings, I want to be able to walk to lots of bars (not interested in eating in restuarants, but just socialising in friendly bars etc., not night clubings as I'm not a youngster although I don't mind them). Perhaps there's some bars there that have live music [local bands] etc?} I like walking so 20 -30 minutes walk is OK. I'm happy catching buses too. Would Ohio City fit the bill? Or would you recommend a different area? if so where? Thanks Wayne

I enjoyed the video portions of this UA-cam video but not the 90%+ that are simply descriptions of the blog site. I wish there had been instead 90% video at walking speed, really walking through the neighborhood, instead of very brief drives through with a car. Too much talking and too little video of the actual neighborhood. I can understand why this blog author focused on her own views, but I think almost everyone would have much preferred the pedestrian perspective walking through the neighborhood, NOT driving through for a few minutes. Too much talk, too little video of the neighborhood. Good info, but it does not convey the real charm of this neighborhood. Exactly the same comments on the same blog's coverage of the nearby Tremont Avenue neighborhood. Far too many words and far too few photos and videos.

@@LivinginClevelandOhio I just like learning a little about these places. You do have good vids. When I was a kid it was called the greatest location in the nation now its called the mistake on the lake. Maybe now I'm a bit of a crabby older man. I do know this we need more than a few beer joints to make this city work. And alot of the houses are so close together. It's been a good talk.
