I love that you show us every step! Sometimes when I have a project in my mind, I never know how to start 😱 seeing your progress is so helpful, thank you!
Just incredible! I just made the decision that I want to do illustration animation. I already do graphic design and hand-illustration, but it's so overwhelming when you're just starting out, so many softwares, things to learn, and just being blasted with information. Your videos not only give me inspiration, but give me an idea of process from start to finish, and hope that I can one day achieve my own animations. In the meantime I'll continue to learn the software and start making my own rudimentary animations, but these videos help to give me some structure :) THANK YOU!!!
You're super welcome!! Like you said, I know everything could be so confusing and overwhelming when you just begin, so please take your time and try not to put any pressure on yourself! Please feel free to ask away if there's anything I could help :)
Oh whoa! I would have stopped after just getting the basics animated but your attention to detail makes it so much more realistic. The ball shadow and the body turning is awesome 😎
Thank you for this great tutorial. I'm so conflicted. I graduated with a degree in motion design but really enjoy your animations video. But also like vfx... You are making it hard for me to decide. haha. Keep up the great work as always.
Hello! I am beginner of AE, but really want to have an effective way to learning the skills and you got so many great tutorials I don't know where to start.... do you have a recommendation where to start?
How are the pupils set up? Were they designed that way in illustrator to stay within the eyes? Or was it completed in after effects? Thanks! Love your videos!
Thanks so much! each pupil is a black circle with a set matte effect applied to it. Then the eye layer is selected as the matte for it :) Hope that helps
Very good tutorial thanks :) Can you give some advice about learning after effects/ilustrator please? I think i'm still a beginner.Do you reccomend any good source of motion design knowledge ,except your channel ofc :D
Is there any room for layer optimization in a project like this? I feel like a bit more could be precomped here so that you aren't having to deal with such an imposing mass of layers in the same comp.
Thanks for sharing your workflow on this artwork. Regarding the posterize time effect, would setting this at 12 FPS instead of 12 1/2 FPS cause any issues? I understand the basic concept of the posterize time effect, but haven't worked with it yet. Any thoughts about animating artwork like this in Adobe Animate vs After Effects? Is there a "set matte" effect in Adobe Animate? Cheers.
Quick Question Ben: I work in Illustrator and then when I import my artwork into After Effects I always convert to shape layers. I know you'll lose Johan's grads if you did on this occasion, but is there any benefit to me converting to shape layers ever? Thanks in advance.
I think converting the vector layers to shape layers means you can edit them with pen tool, with just retaining vector layers doesn't allow you that? Not sure tho
Hey ben! Do you have any info on dealing with clients? Especially as a baginner 🥺 i have lost a couple of jobs by sounding unprofessional and not knowing how to charge for my efforts 🥺 please do a video on cost 🥺
I think TheFutur channel will help you a lot as it helped me for several years. If you're really willing to change professionally and personally, start to watch that channel day and night. Peace 💪🏻

You're are king!
At this point I'm convinced you're not even capable of making a bad video.
Haha, I hope I never get to change your mind! Thank you so much for the awesome compliment :)
Love it as usual. and that background music ;)
Amazing Ben. Thanks for a great video. After receiving the drawings, how long would it take you to complete a 6 second animation such as this?
because WE ALWAYS LABEL OUR LAYERS.

This is already layered in AI. What if we don't have AI and want to fully layer the picture in AE?

That makes sense @@Sandeep-cz7ls Thanks! I won't jump to shape layers so quickly in future. I've always felt it's more pure using shape layers! :)
Hey nice tutorial buddy , Could you please provide the ae file as i m a bit slower to understand due to my learning disablity . if its ok
thanks

Awesome animation and explanation, but why not make it a perfect loop?
Oh I checked your IG it is a perfect loop, in your video it looks like it doesn't loop when you show the final render. My bad!

You don't have to convert the Illustator layers to shape layers.
