Just had to say that this was a kind of eyeopener to me. You've got a talent to compress solid knowledge into 20 minutes of highly informative education. Coming from a linedrawing background and struggling with a painterly approach this was a great lesson to me - I now realize how I can transcend techniques and ideas from linedrawing to painting. Thanks and chapeau!

Man I can really relate to your comment. I come from a more comic-manga background where the line is the main tool but I also happen to love the painterly style and Marco just put into really understandable words the thing that I was never been able to comprehend about paintings. Even though i knew the terminology of edges I never understood the intentionally behind them neither the brush choice criteria

This! Sometimes Marco will say something small that's such a massive eyeopener.
Personally, the idea of doing master studies specifically for things like edges and values blew me away, mostly because I spent many years of my artistic development in an environment where photographic references were the only permitted ones. I have always struggled with sliding into photorealism or no longer enjoying painting at all. It was instantly so obvious why when Marco suggested master studies before photo references...
Thank goodness for youtube creative content creators!

This video was a revelation to me. I struggled for so long to understand what exactly speedpainters are doing and all my art colleagues didn't want to help or show me how it was done, because they were afraid someone else could steal their jobs. Guys like you deserve a crown to share important knowledge like that!

Yeah, I've actually never painted that much in all of my life, so it's quite still a mystery how most artists are able to make the colors magically look realistic.
I didn't really know anyone who could explain these things to me, but this channel really helps a lot!

You know this video has made me feel so much better about painting. Honestly, its so hard for me to paint usually because we always talk about detail and adding in more and more detail. The thought that you can loose some of that detail where it isn't important and still come up with something good and reassuring. Its the hardest part of landscapes for me cuz I think everything has to be hyper detailed and perfect and I overwork everything. Thank you.

Over the past two years I’ve been drawing a 200 page graphic novel. During those two years of working in ink on paper, I’ve been watching your videos over and over. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had those “Eureka” moments that made so many concepts that were so perplexing to me just click. Even though I’ve been working in black and white for two years, I’ve learned more about color/painting/digital painting from your videos than in the last 10 years I’ve been making comics. Just wanted to say thanks.

Didn’t realise how much of a balancing act art is. Really looking forward to trying this out. Thanks so much for the videos. It makes me think it’s just been raining and I’m looking out at the city from a window with a few raindrops, scratches, etc, on it that are super in focus with the background being a little less defined and it’s so beautiful, I reallllyyy love it and the feeling it creates,

Using edges seems obvious yet I never thought of that. Not really.
