    Very informative. I had surgery on 12/9 I was only told to keep the incision dry. Nothing about ice pack, or neck exercise. My incision is halfway up my neck ( I had two upper parathyroids removed as well as a extra one that was deep behind my thyroid leaving me with the two parathyroids). My area directly above my scar is slightly thick. I have now been told to massage the scar error. I have full neck range motion. I am glad that you did this video.

    This video was very helpful. I am 10 days post surgery for a total thyroidectomy and it's comforting to know that I was not alone in being very stressed taking a shower a couple days after surgery. I have the adhesive and my neck is beginning to feel very tight and although my surgeon or discharge instructions did not include neck exercises, I will start some light work today. Many thanks for sharing!

    • @ThePasinis
      @ThePasinis  4 роки тому

      hannah oz Yes! I waited until the scab was gone. It was after my two week post-op check-up. After my surgeon said that my incision looked like it was closed up nicely, he gave me the go-ahead to start the massage. Don’t start before then because the skin is still growing and connecting to close the incision site!

    Do you feel ok taking your levothyroxine at night? I have always taken mine in the morning. I have hypothyroid symptoms even though my lab work is normal.

    • @ThePasinis
      @ThePasinis  6 років тому

      Vicky V I do feel good taking it at night! The important thing is to make sure you take it on an empty stomach. I make sure I wait at least 3 hours after eating. It can be annoying sometimes for family dinners or when friends want to get together since I’m unable to eat past 8pm. I usually take the Levo at 11. Oh well! I definitely prefer it over taking it in the morning! Currently my thyroid levels are normal and I’m not really experiencing any hypo symptoms. I have heard a lot of people say though that they have normal levels but continue to have symptoms. Talk with your Dr. about the issue. You may need an adjustment in dosage to where you can keep you levels on the lower range of normal. That might help combat your symptoms!

    • @VickyGoss

      @@ThePasinis I'm so glad you're doing well. I think I'll start taking my synthroid at night too. I've always taken it in the morning on an empty stomach.

    Hi, I am Day 10 post total thyroidectomy. Healing ok, but today I noticed the scar feels more raised and hard. Should I start massage?

    • @ThePasinis
      @ThePasinis  6 років тому +1

      Sara Choudhury Hi Sara! Definitely check with your surgeon or endocrinologist before you start doing any massage. Everyone has a different way that their incision was closed and a different amount of time it takes to heal. I didn’t start doing my massage until after my two week check up post-surgery when my surgeon told me to go ahead and showed me what to do. He said that my incision had already closed nicely and I had a dermabond closure which he removed before I could do any massage or put any lotion on it. However, my situation could be very different from yours so ALWAYS check with your doctors first! I can’t give any medical advice, just share my personal experience! I do remember that during the first month after my surgery, my scar developed a weird ridge that almost felt like I had a small piece of rope under my skin. It was really weird but I hear that is normal. During months two and three, it got remarkably better!

      Jessi Higgins aww thanku very much that means soo much to me!.. I'm nervous about anesthesia. How did u get through the nerves??... I've had it before but i wasn't under for long I have a HUGE goiter and worried that I'll be under for 2 hrs or the full 3😢😢

    • @ThePasinis
      @ThePasinis  6 років тому +5

      So the anesthesia was one of my big worries too! I had been under two times for wisdom teeth but knew that wasn't as deep as I would need to be for the thyroidectomy. The anesthesiology team I had was wonderful. When I went back to get prepped for surgery, one of the assistants put the IV in my hand and at this point, I was doing pretty well in keeping my nerves under control. I just kept telling myself that it is like everyone says- like falling asleep and the next thing you know, you wake up! Then my surgeon came back to say hello before I went into the operating room and I couldn't hold it back anymore. I started tearing up and shaking just from the anxiety of it all! The anesthesiologist was so kind! She said she was going to give me something in my IV to help with the anxiety. (I believe they gave me Lorazepam but I can't quite remember) I took effect immediately and I felt so relaxed and calm. I wasn't nervous at all anymore. Definitely be honest with them and let them know if you're feeling nervous! They will do everything they can to reassure you and help you. Then, they wheeled me back and got me on the operating table, had me lay down and then a nurse said she was placing the oxygen mask over my face and told me to breathe normally and then that was it. Next thing I knew, I was waking up and everything was over! It was just like they say- so quick! They told me I would probably need to be under for about 2 hours, but my surgery actually lasted just one hour! They said when they got in there, it was much easier to remove than they expected. Hoping it's the same for you! I can't tell you enough how quick and easy it was! Everyone says that and it's hard to convince yourself of that when you're nervous, but it really is true! :)
