I covered No Good Deed from Wicked because who doesn’t love singing a good rock ballad on a Monday afternoon?
I think most broadway fans and performers have a very special place in our hearts for the Wicked musical. One way or another it started us down this path. I remember performing Popular as a 13 y/o at a singing camp and suddenly discovering this whole sub genre of music that fit my voice. The musical really influenced so much about theater culture as it is today and I feel like its right to give homage to this musical at least once because without it, I don’t think I’d be here doing what I do and discovering what I loved.
That being said, we all know Wicked can be overdone. I feel like this is one of the most raw and real songs from the whole show. I love the bitterness, I love the emotion, the power. I love the vulnerability you get to see/hear Elphaba experience. Recording this song was one of the most enjoyable sessions I’ve ever done.
Speaking of recording, I’ve been having issues with my software and computer. It lags really badly and records about a second or 2 out of time which means I have to go in manually and re-adjust it. This has been a bit of an issue so some timing in this cover is a little wonky but I’m working on it, I promise!
Next Saturday’s video will be something I’m not sure what because I actually haven’t recorded anything this week but I guess we’ll find out next week

THAT FIYERO RIFF THO! Not just the riff tho the softer gentler Fiyero before it sent a shiver down my spine it was so perfect! That parts always my favorite it's so soft and full of love and then when the name is repeated it's full of so much anguish and it always gets me. This is the song that made me fall and love with theatre and you absolutely NAILED IT!!!
This is my show. This show introduced me to musical theatre at a very young age, and it’s the reason I’m an actor today. I’ve been singing these songs since I was a four or five year old just listening to the soundtrack in the car. I’ve grown up on this show. I’ve had the privilege to see it live twice. I specifically remember during the intermission of the show as a wide eyed little kid who just experienced the magic of theatre, (especially since Defying Gravity will always give me chills), thinking to myself, “This is what I wanna do”. It was the first coherent thought I had since the last note of the song. While my mom and I went to get snacks and use the bathroom, I told her excitedly about how much I loved the show and how amazing it would be to perform like that. I’m sure she thought it was a phase like every other job I had wanted for a day before switching to the next, but oh boy if only she had known what I’m doing now. I still have so many emotions attached to these songs. Defying Gravity will always give me chills and bring a tear to my eye, Popular will always make me laugh and sing along, Dancing Through Life will calm me and remind me to enjoy life, and For Good will have me bawling my eyes out no matter where I am. This song and As Long As You’re Mine have grown on me significantly with age, and this was amazing. I know you never asked for my life story, but my god this musical means so much to me. I adore hearing such beautiful covers of the songs, because no matter how many people give Wicked the label of “basic,” it will always mean so much to me. I’m always happy to see other people enjoying it. Idk this is a lot of rambling, but long story short, thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of music with your audience. It was amazing to hear. 💚

To me, Wicked is less "Basic" and more "Gateway". I never really cared about musicals until my older sister became absolutely obsessed with "Defying Gravity". Honestly, she played it so much I was actually sick of it, but now when I hear songs from Wicked, it reminds me of when my older sister and I played together in our shared room, having multi-night play sessions with her collectible horse figures like we were in a D&D campaign or something.
Anyways, i got of track. For me, at least, after finding Wicked year later, when i was like 15 or something (being like, "why does this sound familiar?") it opened up avenues to other musicals, like Heathers, Hamilton, and Six. I've never been able to go to a theater and actually see one live, but I still love these and totally would if it was a viable option. Becoming an actress of any kind would be a dream come true for me, but I'm not sure how possible that would be.
Anyways, thanks for reading through this wholly unneccesary rant.

I love how on “let him never die” you softened up at the end instead of pushing that part of the phrase. I love when it’s accented, but it was beautiful and soft which gave the song a more remorseful loving feel in the beginning. I loved it!

I saw Wicked once in Chicago. This is So much more powerful than what I Saw. Wonderfully done.

I think this has got to be my favorite version of this song. Even the album version of it I think Idina doesn’t put enough emotion in it. You really did the song justice in my opinion, putting as much emotion as I think the song deserves.

I absolutely LOVED Wicked because it showed us a side of the story that we were never allowed to see. It showed us a story of heartbreak, of cruelty and greed. But it also showed us how much the world and people around us can and will shape us into who we become in the future.

Honestly I'm blown away. I loved the original, it is my favorite song from the musical, and somehow I love this more. Seriously I look up to you so much!
