  • I wrote this song in March 2020. It was the first day of lockdown. In the evening I looked out the window of my room: it was all dark, and there was a surreal, disturbing silence. This situation of looming, unknown threat evoked an inner darkness. I sat down at the piano and the beginning of the song came to me straight away: (“Now you walk alone, in your empty room, poisoning your soul, you can't let it go”). The song talks about the shadows that poison our relationships with others and with ourselves, of the inability to forgive and forgive ourselves, depriving ourselves of the possibility of being happy ("When will you draw a line between hate and forgiveness? What are the demons that stand in your way?”). The final phrase of the song, “Open the door!” is an invitation to escape from the prison of our mind. Sometimes we are our own worst jailers.
Now you walk alone in your empty room
Poisoning your soul, you can't let it go
    Thought that you were strong
But you can't forget the words you've heard
A raging river flows underneath your skin
Hidden 'til one day it'll rise again
Sweeping everything, roaring to the sea
    In search of peace
Angel wings and the sound of a lullaby
Will carry you down the line
    Your smile is a fake
Things ain't gonna be the same again
And you know you'd better go away
Tired of making the same mistakes
    For a long time
You've let'em drain your heart in silence
Well, you've been kicked around since you were a kid
    (You were a kid)
You were an outlaw in your own family
    (In your own family)
When will you draw a line between hate and forgiveness?
    (Hate and forgive)
What are the demons that stand in your way?
Angel wings and the sound of a lullaby
Will carry you down the line
    Your smile is a fake
Things ain't gonna be the same again
And you know you'd better go away
Tired of making the same mistakes
    For a long time
You've let'em drain your heart in silence
Days pass you by my friend, you cannot live them
    (You cannot live them)
Runnin' your alibis like a train off the rails
(Like a train off the rails)
If you can't turn the page you'd better change book
    (You'd better change)
Make up a story you'll read 'til the end
Now you walk alone in your prison
    Lost without control, broken mirrors
    Scattered on the floor
    What're you waiting for?
    Open the door!
