  • This song was born as an instrumental piece, an exercise in harmony on suspended chords, and remained in the drawer for a few years. One spring day a few years ago, I felt the desire to go for a walk in the park of Villa Revoltella in Trieste. When I was a child my dad often took me there to play after school. My passion, like that of many other children, was going on the carousel. Returning to the park after many years I saw that the carousel was stopped: it had been blocked for safety reasons. I thought about the contrast between that moment and the whirlwind of life and movement that animated it in the past and I wrote the lyrics of the song, which is an imaginary dialogue between the child Gabri, with her enthusiasm and her illusions, and the adult Gabri with the awareness of a life lived. At the end of the song I inserted, like a distant echo, few seconds of a recording made by my dad of me as a child improvising a song.
A few days before my father died, in December 2021, I wanted him to listen to the song (even though it was incomplete at the time and I hadn't yet recorded the vocals), to go back one last time together with those happy moments, and so that he could hear the recording he had made of me humming as a child, inserted at the end of the song. After listening to it, he looked at me and asked: “Will you dedicate this song to me?”
The ending is poignant: "On the broken carousel / I still hear the children's laughter ringing in the wind / that shakes the bare trees. / Too late to go for a ride / I see you waving goodbye..."
