I've ridden that route many a time and part near the end alongside the river is to me one of my favourite parts in the summer, so beautiful and tranquil. 👍
when heading towards hawes i always take a break on the bench at the side of the road opposite the buck inn and have a drink from my flask as it's about 90 mins from home. i'll wait till i get a good break from traffic before heading off, as it's a road best done when quietest as you'll know. GL
i've cycled and now motorbiked over fleet both ways literally 100's of times since the 70's, and it's one of my fav roads as well. i still remember the first time, which must have been 1974, on the way to stay in the hawes youth hostel, and we stopped at the top just as you start to go down the steep bit which used to be marked as 1:4, now downgraded to 20% i think, to take a photo down the valley. it was a bit overcast then as well but always a worthwhile view. cheers for the vid.
Thanks Dave, brilliant ride was over there only 6 weeks ago on the hunter, a nice ride for me also as I live Heysham, Morecambe bay, when I was a young lad 45 years ago I used to cycle that, from Preston and back, as impressive as ever, thanks for the vid guys appreciated, catch up wi the later Over the hill but refuses to grow up, Lancashire Lad Ted
I love "ghost" riding with Dave rough patch at 12:17 I think PA roads suck bad too handled it brilliantly maybe someday we can all carry on in some sort of capacity on an ethereal ride. Hell he even threw in some Robert Frost how can't you like it.
Love the opening "poem" ❤❤ Back in BC Canada after 3 weeks in N.Yorks visiting Mum. We drove up ont' moors and like you felt...amazing freedom etc... great for the soul of a Yorkshireman!... keep on with these road trips, they never get tired. Years ago we did many rides in the Dales as well ❤ First thing was to get a tootle out on my V7 Special Edition (same model) 😂😂 😂. Sadly, the T120 has started early hibernation for a few months! Loved N.Yorks, as usual and just need to organise a bike for next time (I keep saying this for 30+ years)....but it seems really difficult re: temp insurance and no UK residence??? Both bikes are keepers... in fact, IF I could have #3, I'm not sure what it would be? The current puppies are fine!
Lovely. I'm fortunate to live in rural Vermont in the US where we have lovely country roads to ride with the 350. But, this area you are riding in is gorgeous. I often day dream about traveling to your area and maybe renting a little 350 to tour around on. Robert Frost spent the last 20-25 years of his life in the lovely little town of Ripton up in the hills here in Vermont. I ride through that area at least once a year.
Mesmerising. I am fortunate to live in the middle of very similar countryside (minus the rock walls) in South Gippsland Australia, with my Halcyon Grey. ❤
Done that route many times from Kettlewell to Hawes and visa versa. Once went over with my daughter on the back and on the tops it was minus 5, never again.
haha yes i know that feeling, once in the 70's we cycled over one winter after a snowplough had been through, and the wall of snow was like a tunnel in one place, at least pedalling kept most of the body warm 😀. GL
Greetings from Southern California. I like your luggage setup. If I had your bike, I would add a windscreen. At my age, every little comfort helps. There’s a Royal Enfield dealer not too far from where I live, and I have considered getting a classic 350. ✌️
Good am sir, morning here anyway, what a place to ride & what a great bike to take you out there. I have to tell you that evey time i see that part of your country i'm stricken with just a teeny bit of rider envy, also when you take olde norman for a tour, these are my favourite of all your videos, all are great entertainment but this combination is quite special to me. Enough jibber jabber, it's really nice here although quite cool & i am about to go for a long ride out on my nice olde beastie, a 650 suzuki boulevard s 40. Her name is delilagh & she does get some attention now & again. Thanks as always, ric, ontario canada, where winter is looming on the horizon.
Probably my favourite road of all. Went over there on two wheels many times, once on a windy & very blustery day that made it rather tricky right at the top of Fleet Moss. Had to lean the bike hard into the wind (coming from my right) just to go in a straight line, so the corners at 11:47 and 12:12 (which are sharper than they look in the video) were "challenging" to say the least ! 😆 Riding down the other side through Deepdale/Yockenthwaite - a beautiful place with the river right beside you on a summer's day - I had my visor up to smell the clean air, when a wasp flew right inside my helmet and was buzzing angrily in my ear. I don't think I've ever stopped so fast in my life ! More recently (on four wheels, with the wife) going up the long straight climb above Gayle I spotted something in the road ahead & slowed right down - It was a large Hare, just sitting in the middle of the road, staring at us. Got within about 30 yards before it ambled off. Another time we were looking down at deep snow in the valley where you stopped to admire the view, and that was in late May ! A small correction; You don't enter Buckden via Cray on that route, you go via Oughtershaw & Hubberholme. Cray is on the B6160 above Buckden, on the road to Bishopdale/West Burton/Aysgarth.
@@thebingleywheeler Then you must have turned left at Hubberholme, opposite the George pub, and taken the tiny lane that takes you up to Cray. Going straight on goes directly to Buckden.
Fleet moss is tough on a pushbike. Used to do an endurance run from Preston every year. Heading south from Hawes the 1 in 4 bits at top are nasty as you are already pretty much at max before you get to them. 😮 Amazing I did more regular 100mile plus runs on push bike than I now do on motorcycle!
Nice ride & Halcyon is a lovely colour, l will get a 350 but l think things are going to get economically worse, very soon. Late spring will hopefully see me pick up a bargain. I'm in Las Palmas and l'm seeing a lot of 350's about.
Morning Dave what a beautiful part of the world as we know Yorkshire is and that ride was amazing apart from not being a nice sunny day that would be a great road for some sports bike riding below 70 mph mind 😂😂😂really ringing its neck like a TT rider if your man enough I’m not now though a nice bimble like you done safe and smooth the way to go now take care mate
Nice. Often around Reeth, Hawes, Nidderdale etc but don't think I've done the Hawes - Buckden bit on my bike. Might try tagging that bit onto a near future ride out.
'The history of dry stone walls dates back centuries, and different time periods often utilised different building methods of walling which helps us date them to particular eras. Many of the walls we see today are a result of the Enclosures Act of the late 1700s and typically run in straight lines for miles on end'
What a great sound, the Classic 350 single thumping along through the wonderful scenery!
I must be getting old, I love that 350 classic!
What a great view from the saddle. Not just the scenery, but the baby blue binnacle and analogue speedo too.
The Robert Frost's poem was a brilliant touch to an already poetic ride, loved both!
Exellent video!
Peace and best regards from Brazil.
☮️ 🛣 🏍
Thank you sir great to hear from Brazil
The RE classic 350 is defiantly the best & my favourite bike in your fleet. 👍
I used to drive up to hawes and back from Bradford once a week back in the early eighties, never got bored of that run.

Little Norman looks great in that colour.
Stunningly beautiful part of the world. Thanks for sharing your ride!
Cheers
Kevin
Views a plenty roads not to bad and nice words, plus a great ride nothing better.
That road! That bike! Wonderful. All you need is the theme to All creatures great and small playing in your head.

Real got some fantastic roads to ride on, fantastic O😊

Great to see the 12k hit! Perfect steady, organic growth.
Thank you as ever for your content and effort!

If you ever get over here again you’re welcome to ride one of mine for a day 😎👍🏻
Brilliant TBW. Pure & stunning. Those stone walls keeps one awake.

I live near the Peak District so regularly ride on similar roads on my interceptor, love it 🙂
Definitely my favourite road so much to see its very endearing

Minus 5 up there wow

Nice riding road I would definitely like to try.
That View! Thank you for the ride along... ;0)
Wonderful, wonderful video. Thank you!
Nice post BW, and you were on the perfect bike for it imo...

Wonderful....
Did I honestly see you take Norman to 50 mph. 😳😳😳 Careful on the little one... He's not a sprinter.....🤣🤣👍👍👍👍
I love that road😊
Lovely.
I really did enjoy this. Thank you!
beautiful wilderness!

Breathtaking views, as always.
There’s just something about the sound of an undersquare single. It soothes the soul.

We certainly went from Cray to Buckden because we passed the White Lion and the next pub we passed was the Buck Inn…..Oughtershaw is further back

Bin the GoPro and get the DJI Osmo Action 3, 4 or 5. They just work! Another enjoyable episode fella. 😊
I had the 3 it didn’t impress me at all tbh
Good Morning Dave , Wow absolutely stunning views , take care & ride safe

Much respect doing that on a push iron!
nice little ride that
Morning Dave, well what an “atmospheric “ vlog only to have been better by riding your BSA gold star 😉 carry on that man Caio for now tat ta👍🏻
Absolutley Awesome 😄

Some bikes just fit in with the scenery...
Bloody marvelous
Ienjoyed that, thankyou
Nice. Often around Reeth, Hawes, Nidderdale etc but don't think I've done the Hawes - Buckden bit on my bike. Might try tagging that bit onto a near future ride out.
Gayle is two hours and a hundred miles from me and I live in Yorkshire!
That little 350 was labouring a little there...
Same here, more than worth the effort to get up there though.
when I do that road I usually treat myself to a pint and a packet of salted nuts at the buck inn 🤪🍺
Mega Dave, thanks. 👍
I'd go for the BSA and probably will.
Such a beautiful place. Just gorgeous..The rock walls that you pass …do you know how long ago they were built? Thank you for this superb video..

I’ll bet Norman needed a good clean 😂
2 hours of a job! 😂
i Have to say I love the look of the BSA
Thanks for the soul food!
Thank you so much Derek I really do appreciate that 😎👍🏻
Not many more days riding there this riding season!
