I never had to do any port forwarding and my dedicated server works like a champ. I added in my IP address to the json file and run the dedicated server executable in Admin mode and that was it.
@@Vedui42 My son, my nephew and my son's friend joins with no issues. My son's friend lives in Oregon. All are joining from the outside.. You don't have to port forward.
@@jessiemartinez5374 My point being, port forwarding is normally needed for discovery and accessing a game server directly. When you have people who join on you through stream, the traffic is routed through your client as opposed to directly to the server. That's why joining works, whereas direct access would fail generally :) But glad you have it working, that's the important part.
No idea! Does it happen every time? We were having some weird random errors too, where on one server _I_ could favorite it, but my two mods could not, even though they could "join" game on me. Could be that the port forwarding is not working properly possibly, so your local steam sees the server, but steam as such fails to?
@@Vedui42 so guess what! needed to run enshrouded_server exe as admin... but now im moving local server files to load from dedicated server! what a mess this is
That is weird. Generally should not be needed, but could be some permission thing specifically on your system. However as others also ran into that, maybe more common than I thought! :)
You can just run the server on a laptop, and then run the client from your main pc. this is actually going to be a lot more efficient, as currently the server has a huge CPU draw, even when playing a single player session.
Hello! Make sure to use the query port, and not the connection port. That said, I've had friends also tell me they sometime are unable to add games through the steam server, even while I was able to.
However, if you want to create it on another PC where your server is, it will not work for you, because if you have a separate Steam account for server games. So it won't find the Enshrouded Dedicated Server folder if you don't also own this game there. And buying it twice is nonsense.
It works just fine. The way to get around it is to install the game through your regular user (use steam profile switching) and get it setup. Then simply run the game from the folder directly, without running in steam. You can choose where you put the server install as well, in case you have issues finding it. But it definitely works, I did it like that on my laptop when I played with friends (and streamed) prior to getting a hosted server setup.
It's true in the sense the game is still in EA and being developed, and they are adding on additional properties (which they really should have done way earlier. So all good! :)

Great :) A server doesn't require port forwarding, except if others need to join from the outside independently.

@jessiemartinez5374 are they joining on you or are they connecting independently to the ip?

@@Vedui42 Sorry for the late response. The server will show up in the server list online.
Can you connect to a friends computer over local area network with Hamachi?
Hello! I would say theoretically possible yes, but I've never tried :)
I got my server to come up on the favorite list on steam but when I click connect nothing happens. Any suggestions?
That's weird. I've never had that happen, sounds like a bug somewhere as either it should accept or reject... not do "nothing" :/
Any idea why the game wouldnt start when I click on connect from the steam fav servers window?

Do I also need to install the main game or could I just run the server on my subpar laptop?

This did not work, the Stream Game Servers just tells me it isn't running and does not add it.

Guess I'm doing something wrong... now working for me
Am I not supposed go into the Json file and put my IP address into the quotations??
Hello! You do not have to put the IP address no :) Try starting without making any config changes, and seeing if the server comes up and starts.
This video is outdated the file is far more complicated than in the video. With user groups etc.
