2h mace, jump attack, evasive strike, blink strike, water aura and fire aura. A fast paced way to play with 2 handers. Jump attack to push the enemies, blink in, evasive strike, blink out, repeat. Ring of Rapacity, which is obviously broken right now, gives almost endless mana if I need to whip out my staff and throw some fireballs, but the combined mana regen from mana leech that maces get and other talents give enough of it back anyways, so it'll work even after the ring is fixed. So I guess it's a 2 handed paladin, or a battlemage build?
@JM-db8ez if you haven't done it yet I just tried making the "shrubs" on the seed bed. 1 fiber gets you 5 seedlings (you don't need water) and each seedling grows to give you 2 fiber and 1 stick every time. I set up 4 seed beds and put 25 fiber in each of them. 2 hours later I planted 500 plants and got 500 sticks. It's nice on a rented server because time progresses even if you aren't on, on a solo server you would just do this in between missions and farming other materials I guess. It was easier than looking for nests for sure.
Bird houses and stick recipe for sure! Or just let us make endless quivers like you can do for spell projectiles, or at least quivers that give chance to not consume arrows when shooting.
I'm playing as Ranger, You have to have a bow that has 'brutal' perk (+20% crit dam), my head shots hit for 500+ at level 23. It does require more gathering/farming than any other class. It's not terrible if you're vigilant, I'll note my method. I have a seed planter going at the base 24/7 make shrub seedlings, sitting on like 1,000+ seeds in no time. I spend about 5mins planting 200 bushes on my farm, before i go out on an adventure, returns 200 twigs, (about 2mins to collect) which makes 500 arrows. For iron I glide from the far eastern tower straight down to the Iron Mine, you don't have to kill the root and fight the scythe boss each time, but it give you a gap in the shroud (takes 1min). I mine until I break the pick (7mins) you get enough ore to make like 60 bars which makes 1,500 arrows. Total farm time is 17mins or so, and i do this every few hours of play. Feathers are by far the biggest blocker, you will need 5 per 50 arrows, so i just try to always kill the dragon birds and chickens during the adventure time.
Meanwhile the level 35 staff spits out fireballs that do 900+ and are an AOE and don't need any gathering. They really need to add some kind of magic infinite arrows, even if it's just wood quality.
Yeah you can do that or you can just go up to the workbench repair your gear and go back out and play the game, but yeah i did personaly enjoy the ranger playstyle alot more then the mage playstyle so im do aggree with you on that point. And considering its a early access game i am pretty sure they will make arrows easyer to come by with a upcomming patch, and then ill play ranger all day baby =)
I play as a spell sword, like I do in Skyrim (perhaps it's called a battlemage?). I use the wand as my projectile weapon until the mobs get closer. Then I switch to one-handed and shield, which, when combined with the Jump Attack perk (which isn't limited to barbarian), makes this game a total blast to play. Although it either needs a horse, or a way to use the grappling hook in way more places, or a way to climb/traverse vertically, a la Zelda.
I'm playing Mage, there's a "Ring of Rapacity" that you can farm that gives you 20% mana regen each. With two of those equipped you legitimately have infinite mana. Even makes gliding with the "Updraft" perk a blast. I was always going to play a Mage, but the fact it's so strong makes this game so fun to play for me. I was missing that option in something like Valheim (which I've heard is possible in the late game)
@@stillsolo It spawns in Willow Crush, southwest of Revelwood fast travel, right when you cross the bridge (over the shroud) There's a big round structure and there's some rubble on the ground you can dig. I'm pretty sure the corpse you loot it off has a red glow similar to the lore books. Then you can just reload the game and grab another
I usually go with a wand but I also use a shield so I still have the option to block when needed. Definitely helps me stay alive longer in those big fights!
I play Wizzard with Wands, Fire aura, Heal aura, double jump but i wear tank armor. The small adds like bugs just die to my aura, i can focus with wand on the big guys, heal and tank armor aura helps me survive my mistakes :) Also, we play in duo and booth auras stuck, so ... double heal double burn :)
I have spent about 30 hours at lvl 25 and have all "end-game" items. After lots of testing, this is my tier list. S+: Wizard A+: Ranger B: 2-hand melee, Wand (Battlemage) C: 1-hand melee I shared this on Reddit and they roasted me about putting 1-hand melee at the bottom. I went back and tested it another 5-10 hours and found the same result as you. Damage is good and the playstyle is fun, it just takes far far far more damage than other other builds. Regarding bow, universally, everyone agrees arrows are a problem. We need an eternal arrow and each craft should make 500 arrow, not 50. Assuming that is fixed, I have Ranger in the perfect spot. Great risk vs reward playstyle. I don't know exactly how my build differs from your, but my arrows do 700 damage per headshot (skillshot). With that much damage, it makes short work of all level 30 enemies. Wizard is overtuned right now. I'm a firm believer Wand and healing should scale with int, whereas staff damage should scale with spirit. At current, Wizard can pick up Damage, Earth Aura, and Water Aura. This build does everything well with no downsides. By changing staff damage to spirit, Wizard won't be able to get healing and defense. As such, it will play much like the Ranger. High damage at the cost of survivability. 4:13 - PSA, never turn your back to enemies. They get a guaranteed crit and backstab. You will notice their normal attacks did about 100 damage, but once your turned your back to them they did a hit of 420.
You bring up some really good points thanks for sharing! I do want to go back and mess around with explosive arrows on the ranger I feel like it has a lot of potential but crafting those arrows is a ton of farming
I do play with 1h melee and shield, and bunch of Life Leech, and good stamina and life regen food. It's just annoying to deal with some enemies that have one shot mechanics, otherwise it's pretty fun to play around. And the Leech makes me heal fully very easily with a few weapon swings, so I can tank most of the stuff. The only thing I felt lackluster is there's no way to deal with the flying mage mobs, since you cannot melee hit them, and you need to use a wand or bow to deal with them.
Archer Class, The blue armor headpiece and gloves for the crit and ranged damage. The Gloom Monarch chest, legs, and feet for the health boost in case you make mistakes or run out of arrows and need to get up close and personal. Plus is gives off a decent heavy archer type look and is forgiving when you do accidentally glide into the middle of a group and need to make a quick escape. Double jump perk helps with that as well.
Even without Acid bite at all, even if completely removed from game, Magic build is still much much stronger than either bow or melee by far. It's just broken on every level.
I've been doing a mixed build with melee adding in some backstab perks. basically dodge roll behind enemies and do an extra 50% damage. its pretty fun, and keeps the momentum and mobility up with a few extra stam regen clothes/food. Just wait for them to go into attack animation or parry, then roll behind em and slay. Its pretty fun with faster swings as well.
@@doomslayerforever2858 Ah yes the mages who are known for their intelligence and study of the elements oppose to melee "me hit thing with other thing and then it stop moving" and the melee fighter has still not figured out what death is, they just know the thing they hit stopped moving.
@@doomslayerforever2858 And we all know what u are playing in any MMO.... An Berserker... Mainly 2H with overpowered Dmg and Tankyness XD And btw, no, i dont play mage normally, i play assassin ^^ Yes, Mage needs a nerf in this game, but like always you guys dont consider the fact that an mage must lorewise have the highest dmg in any game. Hes a fking mage........
The mage builds feel like what I want them to feel like. What needs to happen is the other classes need to come up to be as satisfying as mage. Tanks take too much damage and stagger too easily, even with good armor. They need to improve the ability of armor and shield to have stagger resist, because getting stunlocked by a pack of mobs feels terrible when you're rocking the maximum defenses possible. Weapon arts would help, let onehand swords get a slash-wave magic attack that covers a frontal cone. Let two-handed barbs have a straight line charge that does fat damage along its path. There are ways to make other things good without nerfing the one fun combat style.
I agree that mage should do the most damage but being able to melt end game bosses in 3 seconds is ridiculous when the others take almost 1 min +@@mandu191
I haven’t picked the game up yet, but this is cool information because I was always going to be playing a mage. It’s nice to know that it’s a good way to go because many games kinda make magic too weak because they’re scared about balance or something but go too hard on it lol
Twig bushes are the easiest plant to grow, you don't even need to plant them in farming soil. I plant them all around my base, can farm 100 twigs within 2 mins, use the plant fiber to make more plants in the seedbed.
they should add more moves for all melee and the ranger class, like dodge roll + attack give some sort of shoot and dodge move with the ranger or a charged-up burst attack with a melee weapon
Is that why there is that disparity between sorcerer and ranger in which sorcerers can find ammo that never runs out, but rangers can't find an ever-full quiver?
@@Daskard at least it's still early access, so there is potential even if they give a more efficient crafting method down the line. Mind you some of the arrows are REEEEAAALLLY good, especially when combined with certain bows
My only issue is how much it lags behind overall currently. I dont mind farming, but there has to be a good output from it in response, and magic among other things are just so much easier to work with or are vastly better. When the game possibly buffs ranger builds and makes it easier to make arrows, I think itll probably shine!
Also you mentioned farming Iron Arrows is slow. A tip for farming them: you can loop the Sun Temple by rebooting the game over & over again with a home setup. You do a 1min loop breaking pots, each time collecting 25-35 arrows. So in 10 minutes you have over 300 Iron arrows without farming any Mats.
In a pinch that might work but Ive found I burn though 50 arrows in like 2 min in this game so that is kinda pointless. I think the best option would be to just dedicate a few hours and do a mass farming run for materials.
300 arrows is definitely an insignificant amount, as I can play for a short period of farming but when you use 1-3 arrows per pull if you have multishot, and some enemies take upwards of 50 arrows to down you're going to run out fast.
I usually like playing melee. But, in Portal Knights, i enjoyed the mage the best. So, the build you talked about is the build I've veen working toward. Didnt know about the wand that already had +1 projectile. I'll keep my eye out for that!
We're in the early game, but my buddy is playing a "Ranger" and I am playing a sword and board "tank". I see what you mean where they could be underwhelming if running solo, but as a duo we seem pretty capable. Granted, some enemies I just hold my shield while my buddy rains arrows, then when I lose aggro I back stab until I regain it and then hold my shield, which I suppose could be boring to some. We went into the game with the mindset of "I'll be a tank if you want to be a damage dealer", though.
I hope they add more to the talent trees for each class later on. For instance adding weapon enchantments for the battle mage class or blood knight being able to increase dmg by using hp but gaining it back in some way. Or expand on trickster and assassin class to be more viable like a ninja or use tools or traps. If this is only the early access that means it’s still wide open to increase the FUN for each of the play styles. 🙏
I've seen other players talking about the tedious task of gathering resources (mostly twigs) for arrow crafting. I've been playing a archer from the start and when I'm out and about I make sure to pick up anything that gives me twigs, and I'm rarely below 200 arrows at any given moment. I swap between scrap and copper arrows, depending on that I'm fighting, and I do good enough damage to seldom have to resort to melee them when they get to close. I'm loving the archer playstyle.
As a Dark Souls fanboy I have really been enjoying brutal melee style. But I notice it's really easy to get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of enemies sometimes. Definitely going to take a different approach on my next playthrough, maybe sneak and ranger type. I love this game though, i really haven't had this much fun in a game for years.
Great video, I agree with a lot of your input and as a staff mage user I’ll admit it’s the strongest but I also lean a little away from the “Broken” class so I’m a hybrid lol wiz/healer. Another thing is that archer is very strong BUT is the investment in farming 70% of the time just to play 30% not worth and yea no 2H sword is nuts lol I think they need to do dual wielding specifically when you have a role called “Assassin” lol
i totally agree, mage is the best way to have fun in this game, and i want to add something, at some point i don't remember where i found a ring (the ring or rapacity) that give -20% mana but +20% mana regen, with this ring equipped and the capacity of some staffs to give you back 5% of damage as mana, mana really isn't an issue anymore, with the right perks and firebolt you sometime deal around 500~800 dmg to all enemies within the explosion, as the mana refund work with every damage you deal one fireball is sometime enough to completely refill your mana (fun things it also work with destroyable furnitures, so if you're in an enemy camp you basically have unlimited power) For the spells it does take some time to gather the materials to craft the unlimited ones, but they are so worth it, the ice bolt is great to slow down very aggressive enemies like the ones with two poisoned cleavers, the fire bolt is super fun to clear out large groups of enemies and destroy every pieces of furnitures you see very quickly, and the acid bite just melt through bosses like you showed And i've found another fun thing to do as long as you get an insane mana regen like i do (aka found the ring of rapacity) and the updraft skill, this skill basically let you gain some height once while flying at the cost of mana, but if you cancel the flight animation with rmb and start it immediately again, you can use the updraft once more, and you can repeat that indefinitely, giving you free flight until you run out of stamina, it work with every weapons but i like to do this with staffs or bows since their animation on rmb is very short if you just click it, imo this is going to be patched at some point, but it's very fun to do to travel long distances
So happy the magic build is viable. I saw a video talk about how bad wands were, but I immediately saw it as my favorite option. I'm early-game, though., so we'll see how things progress. First points went into shroud time.
Thanks for sharing that. I really haven't figured out what play style I wanna run. After watching your video I would say I'm more like a mage. I use the wand most of the time but I do use Nova or the Noble blade up close. Subscribed for more quality tips :)
I have more than 200 hours and many characters, the deadliest class is the explosive archer with the explosive perks from the assassin's tree, as much ranger perks, blink, and pyromancer perks from the wizard's tree. Also a bow that has fire damage as the Ignited, wolf Snarl or the rarest best for the class Draconic bow. Also before battles pop one Elixir (30% more damage minus 1 min shroud time) It feels like playing a FPS using a RPG.
I went for full mage build with elder set. Luminous wand, shroud weaver are my main weapons. 0 constitution, 22 intelligence (including food) with 9 spirit. I dont really need spirit since i have 2 ring of rapacity. I also have double jump and updraft. Super easy to far.
Boar Caves always have MASSIVE amounts of twigs that can be farmed with the pickaxe. Set an Altar close just making sure the radius isn't inside the farming region or the loot won't respawn. Then farm like 200 twigs, reboot the world, and more twigs. It's nuts.
In the middle between the Springlands Ancient Spire and Revelwood Ancient Spire is forested area that you can use an axe on saplings and get 2-4 twigs for the same amount of swings and time that the pickaxe gets you in those dens.
Tip for all the archers, Use the Seedbed to create saplings with fibre, the Saplings take a 1-2 days ingame to grow and produce 2 Fibre/Twigs so you can just bulk produce i've gone from 100-200 sticks stored to 1,3k within a fraction of the time. And please make sure you're using the correct Bows/Arrows for certain Biomes and Monsters that way all you farming on Clay,Flint,Ores Etc is not wasted and go a long way! outside of that archer build is extremly op kinda makes the game boring
I found your estimation of the Warrior/Tank builds to be my own experience! kinda sluggish hitting, kinda too hectic to stay alive especially at the higher levels. The Battlemage/Wizard build I also agree with you on, it is more ... not so hectic I think, and was more fun to play overall. High speed play is wearing, particularly when we get past level 15 its challenging but also tiring... With the caster build I find I have more time to effect my tactics and strategy with the mobs. Maybe thats just me too, so I get it when someone says "Paladin" build All the Way dudette!! ... lol... So, I do agree with you 100% on Battlemage/Wizard being the build for me!
Then the armor comes way too late in game stage. Every armor upgrade comes 3-5 lvls after it was usefull, so against any dangerous enemy you end up getting 2-3 hit. What is the point of giving me armor and block when I need to be a dodge tank anyways? The agro mechanic is great though.
Primary sword and board here with a wand and staff at the ready and a bow....Having a fair mix of all is really the best thing IMO. Switch as the situation needs.
With all those skills you can actually use Eternal Fireball to clear out houses and stuff without even getting inside, just shoot it somewhere near and the sick AoE hits at least half of its full damage. Without that range and AoE size I would preffer Fireball over Acid. Also those berserk butchers can be stunned by some certain melee skills if you can time it, not sure how but my party member manages to stun them each time they raise to attack, my best guess is some kind of parry function can be used with animation cancelling effect.
After around 50hrs playing only bow i agree with everything regarding that topic. The twigs. My god the twigs alone drive me crazy...if they buffed twigs recieved from one shrub by 10x i would change my opinion. Or if they made the single target damge higher because of ammo cost, its a better compromise. But around mid game i started mixing bow with INT for elemental damage (fire) after discovering how OP mage is in the game. Having said that, the explosive arrow cost is too insane to be sustainable. Mage is basically the meta untill they rebalance cost to reward.
Did you guys Know that the Dens where the Pigs/boars live is TWIGS! :) I love going to Diadwyn to loot the Chest, Waterwell and Farm the 2 Pig dens there for Twigs :) Log out n rinse repeat :)
@@JohnLee-bd6rv indeed that is useful. By end game i want to use iron and explosive arrows. But explosive arrows are basically multiple lengthy steps and resources that make me jealous of the other classes just getting to left click for free
Yeah i've been farming it over the last few days just to stock up when new content comes out. For now i switched to broken Mage class to farm the last remaining lego items.
Would be cool if the 2H weapons had some ability like a whirlwind. For example if you double click attack and on second click hold it starts a charge up whirlwind you can move and aoe with.
I played what I called a Paladin build. Tank and Healer. I held enemies on me and kept my friends healed while my friends killed stuff. Very fun coop build.
If you're going to have an ammunition mechanic, the damage had better be worth it, especially if it's a build that kind of insists on skill, because you're not doing bow and arrow right if you're not going for those criticals. In the early/mid game, it just isn't good damage compared to most other things you can do. All I find myself doing with arrows is sniping off one or two enemies, maybe blowing some explosive barrels, and then its wand/kite time.
With the game being early access, I can understand some balancing issues. But this video summed up very well what's doing great, and what isn't. I think mage is good where it's at, the acid bite needs to be tuned down though. And every other playstyle needs to be tuned way up, with arrows having their material cost reduced or a way for arrows to be used less when fired. Especially when using multi shot.
For me the best build is the build I feel is fun. 450+hrs playtime and found out a mix of Survivor/Beastmaster/Ranger/Assassin/Warrior/Barbarian/Tank does it for me, but keep in mind I don't mind gathering/scavenging/looting kinda the main reason I love openworld survival games like this as anyone is able to find his/her own nichy. Great video anyway's because I like/love to see how my fellow gamers enjoy games.
Currently the most OP build is the OOM (Out Of Mana) Wand build. Makes your wand do 10x damage, for instance if your wand hits for 250, it will hit for 2,500. Essentially you avoid as much spirit as you can in the talent trees, avoid any mana/mana regen gear. The goal is to be Out Of Mana as fast as possible. What you do is Equip your staff but don't put it on your hotbar. That leaves it so you can use it by holding Q. Then you select your wand on the hotbar, HOLD Q and cast a spell until you are OOM. Then when you keep holding Q while attempting to cast, it will default to your wand. . . but if you are OOM then your wand will do 10X damage. Literally.
Nice video. I'm not that far into the game but have been playing a mage type character from the start. Seems very clear already the wand is super OP. I don't have an acid staff yet because I'm still only 13 and only unlocked the eternal frost spell so sticking to frost for now even though fire does more damage. The wand does as much or more damage than the staff but the staff has a huge range so I can kill things like those plants without them even attacking and other mobs are dead before they reach me..if not dead after 1 or 2 staff hits I can switch to the wand to finish them off. The wand can also replenish mana so seems like they work well together.
I really hope eventually the devs add more depth to combat. I would love for them to straight up copy Souls games like Elden Ring where we can 1-hand or 2-hand any weapon for different animations. Especially for the current set of 1-handed weapons like swords which swing fast. I'd love to put the shield on the back & 2-hand a sword for stronger, slower more deliberate attacks.
I recently picked up some acid spray charges and tried it on a new boss.... the boss didn't even know what was attacking it before it lost half its health. I agree that wands and staffs are the way to go until they rebalance the choices. I still like to keep bow and arrows on me since well placed headshots do really well but I'm only at mid game.
Melee is fine but you really need to go around and grab all the movement abilities and special attacks. The evade attack is basically mandatory to play melee. Focusing on the names of each row is kind of pointless and you should play around and have fun with your build.
thanks for sharing,, at the moment ,, I try to use bomb on larger groups,, and bow as much possible from high up... and one hand weapons.. ... going to try and build a mage later.. Battle Mage is more for me... when playing magic character.. at the moment.. doing ok for my play.. only had the game 3 days at the moment.. .
I have tried all of the different types of weapons. I prefer wand/bow/1 handed melee build. It tailors the best to how I play games which is to adapt to whoever I'm fighting. Wands do a good amount of damage without having to get in enemies faces. Bows allow for ranged sneak attacks and close range melee and wands too depending on the enemy are good for those using these bomb things that blast you especially early game. I have not fought any of the bigger bosses yet though I'm still so early but those are the weapon classes I personally like. I don't like using the staffs. They take too long to charge. I don't like using the 2 handed weapons cause they take too long to attack in general and its slower than anything else.
I'm still experimenting, but we certainly have different definitions of "best" as all I care about is how satisfying combat can be, so if I'm not struggling I'm not having fun. Wands I find to be broken, if they had much less autoaim and a bit more range I'd be a lot more happy with them. Inversely, the staffs are nice, but the way you need to fire them while in "tank control" mode is frustrating. I avoid bows for the same reason, especially since I don't want to grind for ammo. I also find the two-handed weapons slow, so I'm of course playing the tank build. My main spec I care about is parry, but I don't just block. Many attacks can be interrupted or dodged by baiting then strafing slight rather than a full dodge. Pulling that off feels amazing. The green bois and groups are still a menace, but I think I might be able to respec something nice soon
I kinda went mostly towards sword and shield until I had most stamina based skills unlocked and I never had any problems even with bigger enemy hordes. The parry mechanic is so easy it's almost impossible to miss the parry. Sure, one handed swords aren't very effective, so I used axe more until I found a good sword.
Even with solo mode available i guess it does try to push you more towards playing with people. Like a different range of classes. It would be cool in solo to maybe recruit npc with different fight styles to fighg with you. Game looks awesome so far and ive enjoyed watching people play
For 2h build you need to not just unlock the jump attack but also evasion attack so you can blink away and then rush the enemy. With enough stamina gen and stam regen cooldown time reduction you are just constantly flippping and blinking all over the place and hitting enemies faster than they can do anything. Alternating jump or dodge attack.
and for the staff you have to farm, and I think more than for the arrows... what is the use of the workstations (sawmill, forge, smelter, etc.) if you don't farm?If there was no "wand" in the game, few people would play magic.I personally play one handed warrior tank, but it's a bit challenging
i started with bows and basicly came to the same conclusion now i play a magebuild with all the goodstuff from it like half time to cast ,double projectile ,necromancer ,firedmg to brut ,healing aura ,teleport ect but also diped in doublejump ,gliderstuff ,farming and even the 10%dmg reduction from tank i use a fire wand and staff and jump atack with a 2 hander for most dmg (86weapon dmg upgraded) mostly for bugswarms and the green guys i dont use any mage armor beside this one mana ring the rest is lifeleech ring and a mix of armorparts that work for me darkmonarch helm and chest falcon pants and gloves eagel boots
I use staff and wand. Staff is great for CC at a distance and the wand is a ranged weapon that you can combine with a shield! That makes it perfect to kill the green guys. Waiting for the mage to get nerfed now...
I quite like the one handed weapons, i tried both one and two handed but as you said, two handed is just to slow, i had a couple moments id get killed before the animation ended so im sticking to one handed for now. I quite like the wands though for only taking the one slot and giving reliable ranged damage.
First off, I hate that you said this when you said it, along with a lot of other players. Because if everyone saying wands were too strong, the devs, as they do, nerfed wand durability. Now they break so fast that even carrying two or three isn't quite enough in some combat situations. Add to this that wands now can be blocked by enemies with shields, and you have to deal with one enemy being a damage sink, taking no damage for way too long, while others are closing in or hitting you at range, stopping you from dealing enough damage to stun the enemy. Worse still, 'stunned' enemies just start taking damage and advancing on you rather than actually being stunned. So...yeah. That ruined that.
As of the patch the acid spell got gutted but it’s still strong. I one shot the drake boss with it and two shot most of the others. Wand staff combo was great to replenish mana. My bow is still insane damage if you get the headshot bonus. One handed I agree with. The self healing is cool but there is so little stagger on it it’s just not effective and is slow except against those annoying beetles
Sword&board here and while it isn't killing things in one hit like mages do, I can tank pretty much everything while hitting back and not dying in a few hits. Although I do need two hp regen rings to become a true wall
It'll get fixed eventually though ;) It clearly counts as backstab damage when they stand in it, not just when they get hit with it from behind. - Also higher up, there are a lot of flying enemies, they are hard to hit with acid.
I have 72 hours all achievements. Mostly used Sword & Shield, went for an endurance/strength playstyle. Had double jump, magic dash, and overall lots of mobility and some survivability. I wasn't doing the most damage obviously but I never struggled during fights. I felt bow was weak, but always kept one for agro management & puzzles. Also had a wand on me for flying enemies. My main Sword was Legendary Nova.
The poison arrows are WAY better, I could do almost much damage as the tank/warrior, I LOVE the ranger. I have played over 150 hours and I thoroughly enjoy my ranger build. The explosive arrows are great for large packs of enemies, 3 arrows destroy the whole group.
Game needs a block and attack form for multiple mobs and for duel wield 2 hander if you swing as they do you should parry or pish there attack away and then get a stun or quick hit again should work for multiple mobs plus needs a backstab flicker step for duel weild like rogue perhaps a stealth vanish so they can reset and get another back stab or a sap for multiple mobs
That's how a powerful immortal mage should feel like, but also how a very skilled warrior or ranger should feel like, I think bringing the other classes closer to te viability the mage archetype is what they need to do, I'm having a blast playing melee with blink and jump attack, but it's getting harder and harder to face enemies.
You know what would make this game perfect? A bunch of extra NPC"s you could collect and then order mine or collect a resource at a specific spot. E.g. You find a miner. Then you go to a bronze and drop a type of altar. In the morning the miner goes there, mines and comes back with all the ore in his backpack or something.
Few more observations after i completed the game. - You shouldn't build around a playstyle, you should have ranged and melee/midrange options for any build. - You should build around weapons not playstyle, coz all weapons are different in what they can do. - Going for Dex+Int or Str+Int for ranged/melee characters results in the best DPS, so hybrid builds will be on top, compared to pure builds. Also worth nothing that increasing your Flame level results in all stats increase, so you can figure things out from this point. - There is no gear i found or crafted that benefits Two-Handed damage and on top of that Two-Handed weapons have highest parry rating in the game, so devs see tanks with Two-Handers, not with Sword and Board. - Food buffs are crucial to every build, raising up stats or recovering HP. - You should look for Fire/Lightning weapons, reason for that is that most-to-all enemies in game have no resistance to Lightning and other are vulnerable to Fire. On top of that you have most magic perks related to those two elements and increasing damage with those elements and thee work on each other.
I understand that magic is supposed to be powerful but not like meta lol still loving this game a lot and hope to see them add more stuff and builds. No way we are not getting a two handed sword lol that would be criminal.
I feel like staffs have the same issues as bow til late game, you gotta farm some to get a reliable amount of spells, but they make up for it in sheer damage, plus you can get eternal spells so you dont have to worry about farming
I can’t speak for the melee class because I only tried it for about 5 mins before deciding I didn’t want to do it. I have almost 100 hours in the game and it’s very mage/caster focused. To balance the eternal spells the need to add an eternal quiver for each arrow type. You like wands and I use them in my build, but being a staff mage means you never run out of durability. Plus the acid spell is broken powerful against bosses. I can melt any boss in seconds.
Just hit level 23 and haven't accessed the last zone by what I can tell but at this point for me: melee < bow < mage I started melee as mage seemed like crap at low levels but switched to bow after lvl 10 or so and it got tons better. Now that I have enough skill points and spells unlocked I'm finding mage better than bow.
If going mage, get the 2 talents from healer for passive healing, go all the way down the battle mage talent tree for the 20% or less mana converts life to mana. Infinite mana loop. So hack i love it. Cast as many spells as you want. I also run a healer chest for the +96% healing effect on the passive heals
Oh and why are all the mage damages I see so low? Is my mage build that different or what? Cause my acid does 300-500 a tick. My fireballs are doing 1000-1400 non-crit. And I haven't even gotten all my talent points yet or end game equipment
I am very new to the game and use the sword and shield. But have been goin down the wizard tree to see if it is viable. Great tip to go down battlemage tree for some extra damage!
To be fair; I feel like this video applies really nicely to the "Early Access", but it's a mistake to assume that the combat won't change and become a little more balanced after some time of community feedback much like this video. So, for now, this is great information and brought to us with good logic - however, I would reckon the devs are already in the works of finding balance changes to make most or all options of combat viable. They (the devs) did say that they would like for this game to be played with friends in a sort of DnD-esque party where players can take up needed roles and maximize the lanes as a unit, but have acknowledged the solo playing community which leads me to believe that in some of the upcoming patches there will most likely be those buffs/debuffs etc.
I’m currently using a tank/warrior build and I’m not having the same issues. I’m able to take on multiple enemies with no issues. I use different foods to boost my DPS, and I have a Noble Sword.
@@Psycorde I really hope they add a larger variants of player made weapons, because when I was lower levels like 10-15 I was really struggling with the DPS. So I feel like in its current state player experience relies too much on RNG. As soon as I found the Noble Sword I was having way more fun. Not asking for OP weapons just stuff that can merge the gaps when going into new areas.
Mana is not an issue with 2x ring of rapacity (-20% mana, +20% mana regen and it stacks). You can pretty much spam any spells like this. Combine this with eternal acid bite and the shroudweaver staff and you have a very strong setup at your disposal. It's actually too good imho. I should not be able to melt a level 30 boss in a few seconds. This is with flask/scroll/best food, but without the 12% staff damage gloves or optimised skills. The main issue with the staff is the cast time. It's mainly used for ranged mobs or as an opener.
What playstyle are you guys currently playing?
Trying diff builds only lvl17 atm. Any chanse u could do a gear/skill tree progression video? Thanks
Ranger Beastmaster for me is pretty fun having wilbeasts help me fight the shroud...This game is so much fun😁
I'm a battlemage/healer. Though the beast master looks interesting.
ranger beast master are all around goods mage is O.P but hp is to low .
If you could turn wood logs into sticks at the sawmill, it would be 1000x more fun being an archer.
And have “bird houses” for feathers!
@andrefisker I mean, you can make beehives so birdhouses would make sense. Maybe stock them with seeds or something?
THIS I agree with. Should be a way to make sticks out of logs.
They really need to add some kind of magic infinite arrows, even if it's just wood quality.
there are explosive arrows, and talents to make them chain react, but i haven't tried those yet.
I play to 30 with wood arrows 😂😂
Yeah you can do that or you can just go up to the workbench repair your gear and go back out and play the game, but yeah i did personaly enjoy the ranger playstyle alot more then the mage playstyle so im do aggree with you on that point. And considering its a early access game i am pretty sure they will make arrows easyer to come by with a upcomming patch, and then ill play ranger all day baby =)
@@xoth2306 they could easily adjust it by changing the 50 to like 250 when making arrows.
Although it either needs a horse, or a way to use the grappling hook in way more places, or a way to climb/traverse vertically, a la Zelda.
battlemage is pretty cool
I'm doing exactly the same xD, I haven't had too many problems, I just enhanced my armor each time I can to have the power to face the enemies
We should be able to retrieve arrows if we hit the target.
Yes!
Absolutely!
why? this isnt dark and darker :P
We should have infinite arrows like the wand the only thing we would have to concern ourself with would be wearing out our weapon like the wand.
Thats awesome I'll have to look out for that ring.
Then you can just reload the game and grab another
It's getting nerfed so enjoy the cheese while you can.
@@JM-db8ez Link? Or just your prediction?
@JM-db8ez what's getting nerfed, the ring?
I usually go with a wand but I also use a shield so I still have the option to block when needed. Definitely helps me stay alive longer in those big fights!
If you keep holding block and attack with a wand the wand animation is interrupted and you may even attack as fast as with bunnyhopping
@@reljamrkic2663 I'll have to give that a try! Thanks for the tip :)
@@On3lasttim3 only works with a shield tho, not with mage shield afaik. So if you're OK with being a mage with a kite shield, roleplay wise, try it.
@@reljamrkic2663 No it works with both, any shield or ward.
Go down and take the blood mage perk, then into healer tree and take the healing aura.
You'll have unlimited mana and be pretty tough to kill.
Hi I just started playing the game, what is the blood mage perk?
I play Wizzard with Wands, Fire aura, Heal aura, double jump but i wear tank armor.
The small adds like bugs just die to my aura, i can focus with wand on the big guys, heal and tank armor aura helps
me survive my mistakes :)
Also, we play in duo and booth auras stuck, so ... double heal double burn :)
Do heal auras still stack in the latest patch?
@@lul6124 don'T know, havent played for a while
I have spent about 30 hours at lvl 25 and have all "end-game" items. After lots of testing, this is my tier list.
S+: Wizard
A+: Ranger
B: 2-hand melee, Wand (Battlemage)
C: 1-hand melee
I shared this on Reddit and they roasted me about putting 1-hand melee at the bottom.
I do want to go back and mess around with explosive arrows on the ranger I feel like it has a lot of potential but crafting those arrows is a ton of farming
wands are cool but I wanna die in GLORIOUS MELEE COMBAT
Double jump perk helps with that as well.
acid spray is basically Hoarfrost stomp in Elden Ring pre-nerf. Love it, it's so good.
A man of culture
The dmg output on that spell when you first get it, is crazy.
Melee is once again riding the struggle bus. The green cleaver guy and the ranged mobs make melee very unenjoyable.
nahhh...i went full into overpower and doing merciless attacks after overpowering is great. massive damage.
Feels like the parry window is impossible unless you have a shield b it I hate the shield aesthetic lol trynna “git Gud “ but it’s hard when your 30 😂
Ice mage wand master with an ice wand fcks them up before they even come close. If they do, just blink away.
Good information, but anyone watching should know that there's no chance acid bite isn't in for a nerf, and probably pretty soon.
Even without Acid bite at all, even if completely removed from game, Magic build is still much much stronger than either bow or melee by far. It's just broken on every level.
your comment was nine months ago. What has happened since?
I've been doing a mixed build with melee adding in some backstab perks. basically dodge roll behind enemies and do an extra 50% damage. its pretty fun, and keeps the momentum and mobility up with a few extra stam regen clothes/food. Just wait for them to go into attack animation or parry, then roll behind em and slay. Its pretty fun with faster swings as well.
Since this is still early access I imagine lots of this will change, I just hope they don’t nerf the mage builds to hard.
they should mages are for clowns
Quick tip for farming twigs. Boar caves are lined with twigs that are mineable with the pickaxe.
Twig bushes are the easiest plant to grow, you don't even need to plant them in farming soil. I plant them all around my base, can farm 100 twigs within 2 mins, use the plant fiber to make more plants in the seedbed.
@@australienski6687 So you could make an awesome hedge around your base with them lol.
The wolf dens early on are also twig, you can get easily over 100 from farming them
@@On3lasttim3 this is the way
@@kateferguson7705 I can see it now....making mazes out of twigg bushes lol
they should add more moves for all melee and the ranger class, like dodge roll + attack give some sort of shoot and dodge move with the ranger or a charged-up burst attack with a melee weapon
I was amazed by how much more powerful magic is from the get go, especially wands compared to bows
Crafting arrows is the nature of the beast, ranged in this style of game is for folks who don't mind farming up for the ammo.
I think you meant to say that "ranged in this style of game IS for folks who don't mind farming up for the ammo."
@@BaritoneUkeBeast4Life correct, I was replying while dozing off in bed. Haha
So in 10 minutes you have over 300 Iron arrows without farming any Mats.
yeah its pretty easy to farm most ammos like this
But problem is you have do farm over an over. We need infinate arrow
In a pinch that might work but Ive found I burn though 50 arrows in like 2 min in this game so that is kinda pointless. I think the best option would be to just dedicate a few hours and do a mass farming run for materials.
I think it’s odd you don’t recover any arrows whenever you loot the enemies you’ve killed. Recovering atleast some arrows is standard I thought?
You're supposed to equip the staff and just use wand in the active weapon slot and then press Q to cast with it, so you'll have the wands mana regen.
Probably one of the best informative videos ive watched out of a lot when it comes to combat, thanks bro
Glad it helped
I've seen other players talking about the tedious task of gathering resources (mostly twigs) for arrow crafting. I've been playing a archer from the start and when I'm out and about I make sure to pick up anything that gives me twigs, and I'm rarely below 200 arrows at any given moment. I swap between scrap and copper arrows, depending on that I'm fighting, and I do good enough damage to seldom have to resort to melee them when they get to close. I'm loving the archer playstyle.
The twig part isnt an issue. Its the higher lvl arrows that require tons of materials.
just wait until you get to the arrows that need feathers....and god forbit you want to make explosive arrows.
It's easy to get staggered, even for a dedicated tank build which is crazy. This shouldn't be the case
Great video, I agree with a lot of your input and as a staff mage user I’ll admit it’s the strongest but I also lean a little away from the “Broken” class so I’m a hybrid lol wiz/healer. Another thing is that archer is very strong BUT is the investment in farming 70% of the time just to play 30% not worth and yea no 2H sword is nuts lol I think they need to do dual wielding specifically when you have a role called “Assassin” lol
i totally agree, mage is the best way to have fun in this game, and i want to add something, at some point i don't remember where i found a ring (the ring or rapacity) that give -20% mana but +20% mana regen, with this ring equipped and the capacity of some staffs to give you back 5% of damage as mana, mana really isn't an issue anymore, with the right perks and firebolt you sometime deal around 500~800 dmg to all enemies within the explosion, as the mana refund work with every damage you deal one fireball is sometime enough to completely refill your mana (fun things it also work with destroyable furnitures, so if you're in an enemy camp you basically have unlimited power)
For the spells it does take some time to gather the materials to craft the unlimited ones, but they are so worth it, the ice bolt is great to slow down very aggressive enemies like the ones with two poisoned cleavers, the fire bolt is super fun to clear out large groups of enemies and destroy every pieces of furnitures you see very quickly, and the acid bite just melt through bosses like you showed
And i've found another fun thing to do as long as you get an insane mana regen like i do (aka found the ring of rapacity) and the updraft skill, this skill basically let you gain some height once while flying at the cost of mana, but if you cancel the flight animation with rmb and start it immediately again, you can use the updraft once more, and you can repeat that indefinitely, giving you free flight until you run out of stamina, it work with every weapons but i like to do this with staffs or bows since their animation on rmb is very short if you just click it, imo this is going to be patched at some point, but it's very fun to do to travel long distances
Bind your cancel to another bind. I use c for example. Its faster and lets you weave in and out of the flying animation
That sounds really fun!
I think you can find the Ring of Rapacity at Willow Crush.
Also before battles pop one Elixir (30% more damage minus 1 min shroud time) It feels like playing a FPS using a RPG.
you got any tips for melee playstyle? Are they really that weak?
Same with Wolf dens which are all over the starting areas. I didn’t find this out until the other day and now I gather hundreds in minutes.
Just started this game Sunday. So far ive tried to do a bow/sword n shield hybrid. But now I'm thinking makin another char and play wiz. Great vid
Jack of all trades= meh at everything. I'd be more inclined to agree if you mixed 2 things not 3+.
@@insertnamehere4419 definitely would agree for hollowed halls. Had a hell of a time till I went full melee and tank. Whew. Great new dungeons though.
You did a way better video explaining the classes then a lot of other videos that I watched.
Thanks!
With all those skills you can actually use Eternal Fireball to clear out houses and stuff without even getting inside, just shoot it somewhere near and the sick AoE hits at least half of its full damage. Without that range and AoE size I would preffer Fireball over Acid. Also those berserk butchers can be stunned by some certain melee skills if you can time it, not sure how but my party member manages to stun them each time they raise to attack, my best guess is some kind of parry function can be used with animation cancelling effect.
yeah just nueck em
solution to arrows is being able to pick them back up from the target when they are dead. as in some other games.
Trickster adds a nice stun to the wand - which is great for the green assassins who are super fast.
Good call!
The wolf dens early on have twigs in them too, you just have to mine them up :)
Have you seen what you need to craft explosive arrows? its nuts
2 handed weapons should have cleave, one handed weapons should allow dual wield.
All I find myself doing with arrows is sniping off one or two enemies, maybe blowing some explosive barrels, and then its wand/kite time.
exactly
Indeed, I carry 1 bow, 200 arrows, and 4 wands, lol, and enough stone/string/wood to make a fast travel/workbench to repair the wands as needed.
I have a solo build. The damage is split between physical one hand and a magical wand. Both use a shield, and I have points invested in health regen.
When you do a tank build, go down the gasket tree and get the passive healing. Makes you almost unkillable.
I really hope they tune the other specs to be as good as the caster specs, but I fear they'll just nerf the caster specs to be as bad as the others.
and for the staff you have to farm, and I think more than for the arrows... what is the use of the workstations (sawmill, forge, smelter, etc.) if you don't farm?If there was no "wand" in the game, few people would play magic.I personally play one handed warrior tank, but it's a bit challenging
With bow and arrow it helps a lot to enhance backstab damage in both places and aim the head...always.
i started with bows and basicly came to the same conclusion
now i play a magebuild with all the goodstuff from it like half time to cast ,double projectile ,necromancer ,firedmg to brut ,healing aura ,teleport ect
but also diped in doublejump ,gliderstuff ,farming and even the 10%dmg reduction from tank
i use a fire wand and staff and jump atack with a 2 hander for most dmg (86weapon dmg upgraded) mostly for bugswarms and the green guys
i dont use any mage armor beside this one mana ring
the rest is lifeleech ring and a mix of armorparts that work for me
darkmonarch helm and chest
falcon pants and gloves
eagel boots
I use staff and wand. Staff is great for CC at a distance and the wand is a ranged weapon that you can combine with a shield! That makes it perfect to kill the green guys. Waiting for the mage to get nerfed now...
If they added merchants in the game, including ammo merchant, Archer would definitely become way more fun!
My main class is Healer with survivalist stats. Very good mobility. I tried rander and OMG crafting the arrows was nuts lol.
bro..the sword and shield is great. not sure where you went wrong but you definitely did.
My main Sword was Legendary Nova.
wow no joke about the acid. doing a range/sword & shield. but yeah mage seems to be the way to go. maybe my next play through.
The poison arrows are WAY better, I could do almost much damage as the tank/warrior, I LOVE the ranger. I have played over 150 hours and I thoroughly enjoy my ranger build. The explosive arrows are great for large packs of enemies, 3 arrows destroy the whole group.
ok switiching my build from bow im convinced , now do you have a video on the best gear //wand//build for this wand mage ?
I dont but I will come up with one soon
Game needs a block and attack form for multiple mobs and for duel wield 2 hander if you swing as they do you should parry or pish there attack away and then get a stun or quick hit again should work for multiple mobs plus needs a backstab flicker step for duel weild like rogue perhaps a stealth vanish so they can reset and get another back stab or a sap for multiple mobs
if you have mana problems there is a ring which stacks over that gives you -20 manapoints but +20% manaregeneration.
Oh boy, they really need to do some more balancing. But thanks for the great video!
Great video! Any chanse u could do a quick build/gear video (progression tree) and so forth. Thanks again love it!
Thanks for the idea!
Just hit level 23 and haven't accessed the last zone by what I can tell but at this point for me: melee < bow < mage
I started melee as mage seemed like crap at low levels but switched to bow after lvl 10 or so and it got tons better.
Good overview, that poison spray is going to get nerfed lol way too OP
I am very new to the game and use the sword and shield. But have been goin down the wizard tree to see if it is viable. Great tip to go down battlemage tree for some extra damage!
Glad I could help
Never got really good weapons, but I'm at max level now and always focused and getting the most out of consumables, that helped
It's mainly used for ranged mobs or as an opener.
yeah the cast time even with the 50% talent is still a little slow
