SimCity Soundtrack (OST) von Soyo Oka - Ігри
Immediately transported to my old bedroom in 1992
Same man
The nostalgia is strong.
man thats when i was born
Exactly the same 😀
Same *tears*
An iconic, almost strangely emotional soundtrack that contributed to the game's greatness.
it almost has no right to be so good. like... damn. the compositions are just *gorgeous*.
the spc700 sound chip was so special...
How rhey manged to write an OST this good for a simple sim game 👍
This comforts me like nothing else can
If we're talking videogame soundtracks I might have to agree.
I know right, and back then id get in trouble for playing too much video games. I was like, but, it comforts me.. lol
me too. its so relaxing
me too
To me this game is a lot like painting.
Soyo Oka, a very underrated composer
the best
Take me to the universe where Kondo left and Soyo Oka continued to compose for Nintendo games
Couldn't agree more, Soyo Oka is just brilliant. Can't believe she was only in her early 20's when she composed these gems.
@@DesertRainReads Yes. She’s incredible. Most people don’t realize she’s the one who made the music for Super Mario Kart. And that she’s responsible for the whole “sound identity of Mario Kart” With fanfares and stuff.
She also made the songs for Pilotwings, which are great as well and very relaxing.
Reminds me of my baby sitter house she played this game with me and as we grew older she gifted this game to me because I loved it so much…I still have it today over 25 years ago
Who would have thought this would make me cry. Miss you brother.
That music is like a time capsule, it takes me back 20 or so years ago to Sunday evenings playing this with my cousin. Love it.
Likewise, about 25 years ago with my cousin as well haha!
Over 30 years ago for me. Wow.
28 years for me. My parents bought us a used SNES for Christmas and it came with this game. I would sneak it out of their room (because I overheard them talking about it) and play it on the tv in my room at night before they wrapped it. So many super late nights with this game and soundtrack. :)
So much feels, I feel 15 again. (43 here) - thanks for the upload
Just listening to this for a few seconds brings me back to my childhood. I never played this game myself, but would watch my brother play every time he turned it on. I remember our SNES was hooked up to our huge box tv that sat on the floor; if you touched the screen, you would feel the static electricity tickling your skin. It has been a little under 2 decades since then, but it feels like it was only yesterday. I truly miss it.
VILLAGE THEME. EMOTIONAL. NOSTALGIA. FUCKING LONG TIME. HOW OLD AM I NOW. WOW. MASTERPIECE MUSIC BY SOYO OKA.
16:06 the grind begins
Instant nostalgia. I'm back in my old bedroom in 1992 playing this with my little brother and trying to make the most unbelievable city imaginable. We used an exploit from an issue of Nintendo Power to get a million dollars, ha. Awesome game, unbelievable soundtrack.
Yes, enter budget, set taxes to 0%, keep L pressed for the first year, then come back to budget, set taxes up again and release L...
@@cyrillearnoux6533 i didnt even know this! so cool! :D
Also, there's a bit of sadness to think that this game and soundtrack came out in 1991, the year before the Japanese asset price bubble burst. You can almost listen to this as a farewell to that era.
This thought goes well with 28:07
Indeed. Great observation.
The decline actually started in 1990, so they were already suffering the aftermath
@@High_Priest_Jonko Wow
I disagree.. the music is awesome and uplifting.. interesting theory though
Soyo Oka is an amazing composer with a soul that hears the Gods
Hurts my heart, so many memories
City Theme ~ it's like sitting on your bed on a bright wintry afternoon with the bedroom window open
I'm just here for some nostalgia. I used to watch my dad play this when I was little. He absolutely filled the map with the most impressive city that the game could handle. Me and my brother usually got to name the city so it was always named something like buttsnif or bunghole. ya know, the most vulgar things a 5 and 8 year old could think of.
"As mayor of our fair city I'd like to thank you all for being here today. It's been a long road to get to this point. There was the earthquake of 1905. The four floods in 1922. There was the time I accidentally ordered a park built over a vital power line and half the city was without power for a month. But despite all that we've persevered! We've grown! I'm proud to say that as of this day we've grown to the point that we're no longer just a city, but a capital. I'd like you all to join me in celebrating our becoming the Capital of Anusreek!"
@Dungeon Tax: I will never, ever read a better comment online.
@@DungeonTax lol Anusreek. that's wonderful.
Suddenly I feel 8 years old, sitting in the living room with my family taking turns putting together the same city. Man times were simpler then.
When I was the same age I would play this with my family on our old SNES too. I remember asking my older brother to build cities with me when I came home from school. This music really brings me back to simpler times too. Wish I could go back for 1 more day and not worry about life.
@@haley3656 Wow yeah. That resonates for me. Brought a tear to my eye...
The village theme is my all time favor, chilling and peaceful.
When I play Cities Skyline, this music is playing in my head the entire time.
Same here😅
4:08 every time I start a new city
The "Bad Job Mayor" theme is so encouraging, it damn near brings a tear to my eye.....
Masterpiece. Good memories of a time long gone.
Why is this so emotional...
God, that ‘Metropolis’ music. Nostalgia just punched me in the face.
I've used it for my ringtone for years
Town theme is best always. Probably because I spent so much time listening to it because I'd always restart after a couple hours. So happy, compositionally perfect. Exactly the soundtrack I'd imagine I'd hear If I walked into a 1950's newly built suburb in america
Soyo Oka never wasted a single note. Everything was so pretty. Especially for MIDI.
I don't know how, but I was today years old when I realized that the Village/Town/City/Capital/Metropolis/Megalopolis themes all have the same motif. It's never, ever occurred to me they were all the same.
I am sad I never reached Megalopolis as a kid, so I can't feel nostalgic for that song...
Do it now and be nostalgic in 30 more years.
I never did either but it still didn't measure up to the poignant feelings brought forth by the rest of the soundtrack.
same, my 5yr old brain just couldn't do it
Today I decided I have ONE goal for this weekend, and now I see this comment. 1 goal.
You must have not known the cheat code! And to use donut layouts!!!
I never played this game before until today, January 2, 2022, yet I feel extremely nostalgic playing it, like it's still an old childhood game.
the music in Sim City, Pilotwings, and Super Tennis is so soft and cosy. Very distinct sound, love it!
Ahhh, it's nice to see you again, Sim City. Chilling, and writing code.
same
same xD
I'm chillin' and writing a script, and doing Management schoolwork. Cheers!
The good old days
Why is this SO GOOD for writing code?
Village Theme. Geez. I'm crying xD
The "City" theme at about 10:10 is particularly overlooked in my opinion. It has this beautiful airiness to it, like you're watching the development of your city from the clouds - and you notice that it's finally taking shape. It's definitely my favorite City Simulator theme of all time.
Heck, all of these themes are phenomenal. I'd have a fit picking one besides the City theme.
I totally agree.. city theme is my favorite -oddly beautiful .
That theme wormed its way back into my head this morning, is how I came looking for this today...
You kidding me? I also think the City theme is the best of the game. It's magical, dreamy and whimsical to listen to. Truly an amazing piece of music. Those unusual, time signatured, marimba syncopations with the piano are what make this theme such a beautiful piece of music. Glad to see others appreciate it too.
@@MichaelMolG right? It does that to me too, and I haven't even played the game in years. Just goes to show what a timeless piece of music, and how brilliant a composer Soyo Oka was and is.
@@DesertRainReads I'm glad we can agree! Thank you!
Wauw.. The nostalgia IS REAL!!!
So many memories coming back :D 90s were a good time!
I haven't even played this game and its music is simply magical. It's so warm! The snes could sound so inviting and cozy...
You're missing out, this was one of the best games on the SNES. A true, open-ended gem. Soyo Oka's compositions only help to make this game simply magical. Fortunately it can be played via emulator these days if one so desires too.
I played this a few times at my buddy's house when I was younger
it's a fun game. a simulation(as best as the snes can do) of a real city.
you start your city with 0 people, and as you meet certain milestones you get given a few special buildings like the major's house(that would be you). you have a budget, set taxes, and you build/demolish anything that needs to be built/demolished.
the only utilities buildings need in this game are electricity and some sort transportation, be it road or rail.
power lines, roads, rails, and firefighters and cops need maintenance.
there's crime, property value, pollution, and plenty of other things.
all in all it's a pretty good game. and the music, as you already know, is amazing.
if you have the time and patience i recommend you look up a rom and emulator and start playing.
For some reason, I had the village theme of SimCity all of a sudden come into my head a few days ago, and it's been stuck there ever cents. So grateful for UA-cam that I can listen to it while I walk my beagle.
Lol here I am 5 months later and I came here again because the village theme was in my head when I woke up this morning 😂 I listened to the song and went to post a comment how this song was in my head, then I see it five months ago I had literally did the very same thing😂 ahhh I think my life is on repeat
The most chill SimCity in the entire franchise. Spent a lot of time playing this on an emulator when my laptop broke.
my cousin owned a copy on the SNES many many years ago.
What emulator did you play it on?
Dang... I cant believe It has been more than 20 years now since I last played this game. I used to sleep in front of the game because of the nice village music.
Lol, me too and then I’d wake up and my city would be burnt down in places 😂
Did anyone else leave their game running while at metropolis to try and get a ton of money for when you come back only to be met with a half burnt down city? fun times
The first time i tried it, i left for school, couldn't really concentrate and thought about how i got more money and more inhabitants when I come home. But when i finally came home, my snes was turned of. My mum came in my room and saved energy 😅😊. I was so disappointed and angry 😂
@@Disasterhannes You may have had a meltdown as a kid, but imagine your mother simply saved you from having to see your city actually meltdown.
One of my all time favorite games. The soundtrack is gold.
I needed this, thank you. Reliving those carefree days in my bedroom playing this game.
Hello youth. I missed you.
I can vividly remember playing this game during winter days as a kid and the music was so soothing.
I loved this game so much as a kid.
I also loved how each additional milestone in your city's growth, the theme became more and more frenzied and jolty - just like a big city. It goes from serene at the Village level to loud and antsy at the Metropolis level.
Wow this hit hard im in a bad place rn but this really made me feel like i can keep going :,)
Me too...
SimCity as a series has a very overlooked soundtrack. Not only this, but also the NES version, SimCity 2000, 3000, 4, 5, DS, Creator DS, Creator Wii, Societies... You name it, every SimCity game has such a bangin' soundtrack and I can't deny it.
@BURGER BABY Oh yes, there was going to be around the same time of the SNES version, but it was cancelled. The soundtrack was fully produced but never made it to the shelves.
omg. why is this so good?
I listen in snippets each night. Thank you for this.
This is so nostalgic. And my favorite BGM for Satisfactory
I listen to this on loop while I work at my computer sometimes. I can listen to it while still remaining mentally focused. I usually can't do that with music.
Looks like I'm one 1/273 nerds that enjoyed this music lol. Working on listings and chillin' to some old skewl jamz, yeah I'm old.
I'm fuckin' cranking this shit right now. "Budget Theme" is so romantic!
Same. I played this all the time after middle school. 20 years ago or so.
Add me to this list. Bring me back to these days, man.
@@teddypantbongaram2865 it's that Menu Music that gets me every time. I honestly hear this song in my head at least once a month and I haven't played Sim City in probably 2 1/2 decades. How my mind remembers this, but not what I had for lunch yesterday is beyond me.
@@timhowland7103 Oh for fucking sure. I hear that damn menu music just about every day. It's that Sony SMP sound engine, nothing else sounds like it, nothing.
Megalopolis one of the best games on snes ever.
Incredible soundtrack. Last track and first track are my favorite.
Man... Shame the battery backup on my copy is dead as a doornail. My all time favorite SimCity iteration right here. Major nostalgia hit.
Man I remember being a kid, maybe 7 years old when I played (and loved) this game. My cousin was in high school then, obviously a grown up to 7 year old me. He'd make fun of me a lot because I played a lot of video games. I remember him making fun of me for thinking the metropolis theme was good. He said we should nominate it to win a VMA (lol).
Obviously by the time we were adults we were all good. He suddenly died a few months ago, leaving behind his daughter, ironically the same age I was when I played this game. Really tragic. Funny how this game came to mind just now.
19:06 Was never able to hear this as I never got to Megalopolis. There's an image in the book or in Nintendo Power that has a city with over the 500,000 pop needed on map. I copied it the best I could but couldn't quite get there.
I bet only a tiny fraction of a percent of Sim City players ever heard it before UA-cam. The other five themes are burned into my memory from the early 90s but it was only in the last few years that I got to discover what greeted you when you managed to get a Megalopolis
2022 and this is still 🔥 🔥 🔥
My childhood. I first played this during a student exchange program at Yokota AFB Japan on a host family's Super Famicom.
16:54 - 16:56
Showcasing the top 8 tourist destinations, landmarks and highlights of the city
Cool
omfg....when the village theme started, i played in my head the sound of the train, involuntarily.......sound memory is almost magical....
It's amazing if you listen very closely during the Capital Theme there's a section with 3 different background melodies going on at the same time.
Thanks for this. I keep seeing OSTs going into playlists and I hate it. A full list is what I look for when I want a nesalgia trip down memory lane and this is it!
Wow, I play this game all the time this music can give you chills.
Special Zone Gift is the most anything, ever.
Really brought back a lot of memories from 30 years ago. Lots of time spent playing this wonderfully awesome game. Awesome soundtrack. I used to just sit there and not even play the game, just listen to the title song. Thanks for creating this.
Whoever made this video is amazing
😁
How can a game i've never played have such a nostalgia inducing soundtrack?
This is something quite special.
It's the chord progression and the snes' incredible comforting fuzzy soundchip
I remember getting nightmares from the disaster theme during a nuclear fallout 😂
Like a time Maschine for my mind.
Brings me back to the AOL days where I would log on and search midis and listen for hours. Simpler times
I INSTANTLY Felt like a kid again hearing this…omg 😢🥹🥹🥹
Don't shud down the snes let your city grow while you are asleep played nonstop 😊
Just note that this sounds even better when you're actually playing the game.
I'm on a nostalgia hunt - hearing this music brings me back. Full disclosure, I did hook up my SNES a few months ago and spent a whole day playing this game :-)
19:06 + 22:02 The only tracks i never heard in game, because i never achieved a Megalopolis....
this music legitimately makes me happy
Never heard the megapolis theme 😢 this games brings back so much nostalgia ❤
This soundtrack kills. It sounds amazing one of my old SNES', the sound chip has aged in a way that it seems to have effected the pitch and it's wonderful.
I finally achieved doing a Megalopolis in 2021 xD. (Just with the money cheat). The best results of playing it in the past were always 300k-400k
holy shit this is a goddamn blast to the past
I played this game for over 5 years and I never got to hear the Megalopolis music. Never broke more than maybe 250,000 people. But my god... the rest of the music up to that point.... nostalgia city.
Same here wtf man? Never broke 300k!
You should do what Trudeu is doing in Canada and just invite a few hundred thousand overseas 'students' to 'enrich' your economy.
this is my jam. Great music to work by.
Best SNES music
The SNES and Genesis sound chip defines my childhood honestly
Best Sim City. It's basically an unique deluxe version of the original game, with more features, better graphics, and awesome music. Classic.
Really enjoyed listening to the tracks (some of them reminded me of Final Fantasy VII + Golden Saucer area). Cheers.
I never could get up to being a Megalopolis. I always wondered what the song would be. Thanks!
music of my childhood
I freakin loved this game
i played this game the day my dog died, sometimes i listen the ost to get memories of him
I only recently found out that this music was composed by soyo oka who was the same composer that did the legendary music for super mario kart. Her personal favourite video game track was rainbow Road from Mario kart
The music from The Sims already existed on the SimCity SNES. It's called Village theme.
This here is exactly what I needed
most relaxing music ever!
I can't hear the Capital theme without thinking of Holly's streams.
same with good night, see you soon. she ends streams with that :)
I love you John Wilson
such a wonderful soundtrack! 9/10 with a warm heart and passion
Great! The video is back up. Lovely
I might have to bust out my dads old SNES if I can ever find it lol, this game was a big part of my childhood. I still remember my dad teaching me the unlimited money cheat code
I never even noticed the music changed so much in the game
Thats a nice title theme :)
