This fusion jazz intro cracks me up so hard, I don't see why there's no band playing this in an extended 10 minute jam at Montreux, or let it be the introduction jingle of a jazz festival.
For you or those who wouldnt know still, check the band Casiopea or "Cosmic Messenger" album, esp. "Dont let the world pass you by", "Egocentric molecules" by Jean-Luc Ponty. Definitely huge influences for this OST
Yes it's so funny of a sound. It also helps me get into the game. It's so relaxing and comfortable to listen to. You could play this music while you study
It kicks in at 11:14.....when I go test piloting I dont always listen to music....but when i do, I listen to the BAw BAw BAw BabaW bababaBAW song. Youre welcome.
My favorite OST since it came out. I remember playing this for the first time then getting Sim City. That was a fantastic summer. The dope bass lines in this OST are totally slept on.
Listening to this with a more discerning ear for music years later and I am super impressed with how interesting the harmonies and basslines are. Wish Soya Oka had made more soundtracks because she was definitely creating some amazing stuff
Ahh Pilotwings, one of the very first games that were released at the launch of the Super Nintendo (or Super Famicom if you will), and also one of the first games along that introduced the glorious Mode-7 graphic.
OMG, the hours I spent in this game back in the days... Fun fact: many ideas from the GTA San Andreas flight school, where taken from this very Pilot Wings. In fact, the silver medal gets you the stunt plane and the gold medal gives you the apache helicopter, rining any bels?
The game's all lighthearted fun and bonus rounds and the final stage suddenly comes on and you're being drafted and going to war. Pilotwings is some heavy shit.
+Erik Peterson Me and my buddies (as kids playing the helicopter level) would build a little fort and pretend it was a helicopter, and put the tv right in the front, and then play along like that, if we got hit and were going down we would fall over and break the fort all apart. Ah, great memories~
One of those games I never did beat, despite owning it from when I first got my SNES in 1994 or so until I finally gave up on earning my wings and selling the cart around 2019
It's because, in the 4th dimension, the Nintendo Gods saw that one day you would sell the cart, so they forbade you the privilege of seeing the ending of your own volition.
15:14 I used to take this so seriously when I was 10 or 11! Up to that point in the game it was just for fun and then... SECRET COMMAND "What? The instructors taken hostage?? No! I MUST SAVE THEM!!!11"
(proceeds to perform a takeoff in a helicopter at sea, armed to the teeth with unlimited rockets, and land it under withering AA fire in the middle of a military island complex with no prior training whatsoever)

@@wolmarrrrr All of that music you mentioned is fantastic! I can def hear the influence from Casiopea. Soyo Oka is an absolute master!
@kennethmiller1029 I love Masayoshi Takanaka!
Yes it's so funny of a sound. It also helps me get into the game. It's so relaxing and comfortable to listen to. You could play this music while you study
Reminds me of Christmas 1991!
+Michael Lawton 1994 for me
+Michael Lawton Reading that crushed my soul and almost made me cry, it has been 25 years...
reminds me of failure. That music that plays when you fail and the guy looks so disappointed in you. feels bad man
Wow dude🙄
Bingo!
"Baw, ba, baw-wa, ba,ba,ba baw"
Bwah bwah bwwuuaahh
It kicks in at 11:14.....when I go test piloting I dont always listen to music....but when i do, I listen to the BAw BAw BAw BabaW bababaBAW song. Youre welcome.
baw baw baw blaaa hahaha
memories from my childhood
I will die happy only when the "baw baw baw" song is performed by a 128 person choir.
0:18 - 0:50
THIS should be the waiting music on EVERY PHONECALL WORLDWIDE !!!!
It is my ringtone. For years, now. I can't hear anything else and think of phone call.
It would work better as elevator music.
Please hold.....
Yup
Your call is important to us please stay on the line
Underrated game, underrated OST. This game was a total masterpiece. Still my favorite Pilotwings game.
Agree. Great music. Fascinating masterpiece of a game. Early use of 3d. Avante garde masterpiece.
completely agree - this is an amazing ost!
wait there were others?
one of the only games that my father loved
My dad used to play this and Super Battletank 1 & 2
Lol my neighbours dad too

Same because he liked big al
Fave SNES soundtrack bigtime. Soooo relaxing even if the game was stressful af.
the alert noise still haunts me.
My favorite OST since it came out. I remember playing this for the first time then getting Sim City. That was a fantastic summer.
The dope bass lines in this OST are totally slept on.
definitely !
I just learned it was the same composer for both! 😁
Funnily enough both of these games you mention featured the same composer, Soya Oka!
thanks Soyo Oka, for this fantastic ost, as well as the snes sim city and super mario kart soundtracks too
I thought it was Koji Kondo
I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS... The Hanglider music is one of my fav scores ever.
This OST is awesome indeed
Thank you for that rocket belt description 😂😂
Listening to this with a more discerning ear for music years later and I am super impressed with how interesting the harmonies and basslines are. Wish Soya Oka had made more soundtracks because she was definitely creating some amazing stuff
My father lost his SNES years ago, and through "legal" emulation, I was able to let him relive his favorite game years later.
Chad.
Just as long as you're using legally obtained roms 😉
everyone emulates now china knocks out handhelds
The Pilotwings logo looks extra nice and high def =)
It was a beautiful game, inside and out!
0:51 slamminest MIDI bass tone i've ever heard in my life
When I get my own plane, I'm going to set landing videos to this music.
Sanctimoniously it’ll make your ok landings feel a little more comfortable.
That'll be awesome dude
dude it's been 7 years have you done it yet
@@beyondobscure I guess he played the landing failure song
@4:40 reminds me of Alan Holdsworths 'Atavachron'. Love this whole soundtrack
The hippest shit ever. Bwah... bwa-bw-bwaah. It's like 16-bit Steely Dan.
This is amazing dude. Makes me want to bust out the hot cheetos, the gushers, the fruit rollups, the ice cream, and play for hours 😂

From Day 1 of hearing the Music Soundtrack to this Amazing Game on my Super Nintendo I was in love! TY! for posting this :D
The skydiving music on this game is 1000x better than on PW64.
This music makes me feel young again.
So nostalgic 😩
My oh my, talk about back in the day as a kid playing this :)
That INTRO is so good. One of the best title screen intros ever
SOYO OKA IS THE GOAT WHEN IT COMES TO VIDEO GAME OSTS
I love how you put (bwawww bwa bun bwaaaa) in the title 😂. That’s probably how most of us remember the rocket song.
I could listen to this for hours
I freakin' lost it when I saw the additional descriptions in parentheses for Rocketbelt and Bonus Stage~
Planning my final commercial pilot exam listening to this
Did you pass?
Did you?
Possibly the greatest video game ever made.
Played this game so, so, so many times as a kid.
The opening is so iconic. I love this soundtrack so much.
I miss you dad... Thanks
One of my favorite SNES games.. Though there are MANY!
The soundtrack deserves an Oscar, the game itself is very original between so many
wow such soundtracks... jazzy, funky, housey
Soyo Oka!
This sounds like a long lost Chrono Trigger soundtrack. Good stuff.
"Wish we could go back...anyways, its too late now."
Go on, Traveler!
am listening to this with big grin...such great game on the snes and wow this soundtrack. thankyou
one of the best sound tracks, underrated
disappointing your instructor is the goal of this game
OMG, the hours I spent in this game back in the days...

Ahhhhhhh the memories 👍👍😎
This soundtrack wins at life.
This whole game and soundtrack just feels so REFRESHING
Ooooo the helicopter mission at the end...so many memories of playing this game as a 10 yr old.
+Erik Peterson Me and my buddies (as kids playing the helicopter level) would build a little fort and pretend it was a helicopter, and put the tv right in the front, and then play along like that, if we got hit and were going down we would fall over and break the fort all apart. Ah, great memories~
"Land on the land!"

4:22 - Always reminded me of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme.
You and me both!
YES almost the same tune wow can’t believe I didn’t catch it before😃
Reminds me of brisk autumn days playing this game.
12:57 test video, plz do not watch
predator 21 that’s what I came for glad to see you went the journey too

I remember struggling so hard with this game as a child. Always loved the music though.
God I loved this game.
I really love how the "you lost" music is encouraging you to try again. It's like it's saying "hey, you screwed up but you can always try again."
This music makes my soul blush.
Insanely nostalgic
The down trumpet in the helicopter is my favorite part
2:59 Didn't go, didn't go, didn't go!
bwa bwa bwa bwa bwa bwa bwa bwaaaa bwa bwaaaaaa
Glad you wrote out the intense waw voice sounds into the titles at 10:48 and 12:56, haha
16:08 One of my favorite video game music tracks!
This is great music on wedding day in the morning of wedding, or when
0:17 well we know where this is from
I don't remember and it's driving me nuts. Do you know?
This is soo good!!
bwa bwa bwa!
The funniest thing about this game is that they train you all the time to handle an airplane and in the final mission they give you a helicopter LOL
Ich fühle mich so frei, wenn ich diese Melodie höre ☁️
It's 2022 i never played the original game, but the remake on switch. I really love this soundtrack 😁
19:39 should be played for every graduation!!!
OMG yes!! My man!!!!
3:05 when you are at school and get the results of your test back and you received an A+
bwaa bwaa bwaa bwoo indeed
@4:22 isn't this the Ninja Turtles theme?
It has some notes, you're right ! :o
4.22. Just close yours eyes and you can remember playing. Therapeutic. 💙💙💙👍👍👍
The most difficult thing in the world is to perform 100% on the light plane with Lance or Big Al. I couldn't even find such accomplishment on UA-cam
you can be my wingman anytime
I just bought this on my 3ds as a way to pay for just the soundtrack. it's so lovely!!!
aww yeah
I played this game for hours at a time.
If y'all ain't listening to the Legacy Music Hour podcast y'all are missing life itself.
2.59, now there's something I've never heard before! 🤣
(Succesfull landing)
7:45 should've gone triple platinum by now
eriqc 0,75 speed
Pilot wings 64 is still undisputed.
6:31 and onwards, that should play after every plane crash
Only people born in 90's know that
Hangliding music is the shit, then the sound when you hit the thermal. Simpler times.
15:14
I used to take this so seriously when I was 10 or 11!
Up to that point in the game it was just for fun and then...

Isn't 1:13 "Plane Lesson" a rip of the theme from Chrono Trigger?
💗🙏🏼
0:19 is the best
