just bought a mint chappy that was sitting for 5 yrs. put gas in it and it leaked from the auto cock. lol. spark plug had corrosion at the spark and after cleaning it and kick starting, no luck. going to remove the carb next. kick starting the chappy felt ruff. my qt50s feel smooth. i bought it on ebay, seller said it runs. looking for some advice. i have the repair manual.
I know it's been some time, but after making a bike turn over, then conforming spark (& installing a new plug), you should clean the carb for sure. Some times you'll need to clean the carb a few times, especially the complex Japanese carbs. If that is not it, you can trouble shoot back through the fuel flow and/or look for poor compression and/or air leaks. DO NOT sit or stand on a moped while it is on the centerstand. The centerstand is designed to support the weight of the bike ONLY. I have seen so many bent stands and even frames cause by people sitting or standing on it while it was on the centerstand. The correct way to start a pedal moped is to either get on it and pedal it WHILE IT IS ON IT'S WHEELS, or, if you need to start it on the stand, stand on the left side of the moped, put the left pedal at about the 10:00 o'clock position, and firmly push down. DO NOT PUT YOUR WEIGHT ON THE CENTERSTAND.
Do you know how to fix a bent stand? This might sounds like a dumb question but the one I bought was bent and I’ve not been able to find anything online to help with fixing it.
@@BlackSublime What is the stand for, and how badly is it bent? Moped stands tend to be very flimsy and easy to bend. The best way to straighten a bent stand is to heat it till it is red hot, so the metal is soft, and bend it back. Unfortunately you risk actually burning a hole in it if it is really thin. If it is for a common bike like a Puch or Tomos, I would look for another stand.

This way the whole staff has access to the correspondences and we can reply quickly. www.detroitmopedworks.com/contact/ Regarding your specific situation, I'd just trouble shoot backwards. Like, pull the pedal chain off and see if the pedal shaft turns,. If so, put it back on and remove the drive chain to see if the pedals turn the rear wheel. If so, put it on but take off the belt to see of the chain turns the pulley. If so, then you know the problem is in your clutch / variator. Good Luck!
