Thank you, I got very lucky with this build. The chance that the sprockets would match up with the power of the weed eater was slim but worked out well.
This is what we used to do back in the day when UA-cam hadn't even been made a thing yet. Dumpster dive for motors and scooter, fix them up, and rip around the neighborhood. Good times.
Very nice work. Nice and neat and as professional as anyone could do in a garage shop. But I have a suggestion. Your "gear ratio" is not high enough. You are slipping your centrifugal clutch a lot, especially before you reach fast speeds. It would be better if you could use a two stage "transmission". First stage is a vacuum cleaner belt with pulley sizes calculated to reduce RPMs to one third. Output of this goes to the second stage, which is your chain. This will give you a lot more low end torque and save excessive wear on the clutch. Even better would be to find a variable pulley setup like is in a golf-cart, but much smaller to match the low torque and higher RPM of a weed-eater engine. Weed eaters run FOREVER on a gallon of gas. With the right ratio of belts and chain, which would take some experimentation, you could get some unbelievable gas mileage. Come to think of it, you might look into a "gear reduction" chainsaw engine. It already has a set of gears inside that would do better than the vacuum cleaner belt stage. You will have to figure out how to change out the cutting-chain style sprocket for a regular roller chain sprocket, unless you want to use the cutting chain as a drive chain. This can actually be done. You just grind all the teeth off the chain and make sure you don't leave any sharp edges. Or, you can buy a toothless chain. I have seen one on a saw that had a wood-planer attachment on the end of the bar.
Wow! I did this exact thing with the same scooter except I used a 29cc Husqvarna engine from a weed eater, I put the fuel tank where the batteries where and ran the kill switch and the throttle cable up to the handle and bolted the motor on using scrap metal. I also rebuilt the carb and put a oversized air filter on but seeing how fast yours is, its probably 3 times faster than mine! I re painted the whole thing blue and black and put a new tire in the back with good treads and overbuilt it way too much but it still rattles itself apart! im also deciding on making a youtube vid about it but I still gotta get that thing out!
I have that Scoot as well, But I've used Honda GX35 as my Engine choice. Damn I'm so happy with it. and well I also customized the Scoot frame myself, I installed a Hydraulic Shock Absorbers at the Front Wheel, and Spring shock Absorber at the Middle Place of the Scoot that connects the Engine So it'll just bounce everytime i go on Bumps lol I run 60kph atleast with GX35 Honda
I'm about to do the same thing with what looks like the same exact scooter. lol. we pulled the electric motor off and threw it on a bike for a school project, and I got the rest of the scooter parts.
I put a racing pocket bike engine on a scooter exactly like that one. Scary as f#ck. Lol. 30mph roll on wheelies. Super sketchy . Very first test ride I crashed the hell out of it. Easy fix then out to crash again. Total death trap. Love it.
Theres no way your doing 50mph on that long term if at all. You would smoke the clutch after a mile at that speed. I know from personal experience. I put a 27cc craftsman weedeater MTD motor on a huffy. Smoked the clutch just going around the block and it only went 15mph. So i put a 50cc chonda gx50 clone on it with a gearbox reducer and get about 35mph. Id guess your actually getting around 15mph out of that if you weigh around 150lbs.
@@garyshrum4353haha right?! Youd need a 100cc 2 stroke at the minimum to do 50. Not to mention the speed wobbles from lack of a steering damper and the lack of suspension would make you wipe out if you weren't on a perfectly smooth surface.
Have you actually measured how fast you're going? It looks like you're going about 20 mph. But I would still like to know what is the actual top speed, how much gas did you put into it and how long does the gas last you for? I would love to modify my scooter like this so I can go to work in a scooter like yours instead of driving.
Make a how to cause I have a weed eater and scooter just need a how to lol gas prices are getting crazy In Cali and my job only 12 miles 6 going 6 coming
Going to pick my first one up today, a real Goped for $100, Id be happy if I could get 50 mph outta it lol ; I build custom minibikes as a hobby so I figured let’s dabble with a goped
30mph at best.
But very cool!
When it gains speed probably around 45 honestly
Hell ya who needs brakes!!! I love it!!!
Especially when it has a motor fuck breaks!!!
Had a front brake still, but not gonna do much 😅
Engine breaking
That is the most minimalist thing you could do to put a motor on a scooter and I applaud you for it.
Very nice scooter! We didn't get razors in Europe, My town is full of M365 Xiaomis and countless knockoffs but no cheap scooters to buy.

That’s awesome! It really does 27. But feels like 50. Also would love to see a video of yours!
So in other words your scooter was slower than if you walked
@@abdullatif-fr7vdno
Great invention but how is the engine mounted?
Love the video! Keep it up bro
Thanks Ben
Man back in the late 90’s early 2000’s we did this all the time . And I mean all the time .
Haha saw those here in Miami all the time In the 2000s with chrome exhausts Dippin 😂😂
Did you have to modify the clutch ours screeches if you try ro go over 5mph
Great job!
That thing is sick

What the hell, it actually rides about as well as a legit $2,000 Go Ped
Awesome mate love it
I'm about 2 start and build mine about to order some parts
How did you mount the sprocket to the engine?
The sprocket is welded to the weed eater shaft. And the sprocket is from the original electric scooter motor. Thanks for being the first to comment 👍!
The sprocket was welded to the scooter shaft. I am going to make a video on it soon.
I just made almost the same thing except without a clutch so it's direct drive. You'll probably smoke that clutch really quick riding that.
Direct drive can't coast
@@alfredoghost2306 why do you need to coast just stay on the gas. It works really well so there aren't any issues other that having to kickstart it

Sick dude!!
Had one as a kid in the 90s my neighbor hooked it up built the motor out of a chainsaw
Maybe 25 MPH
Lol it does 27, you were close
How did you mount the engine to the scooter? Great idea overall. I'm trying something similar myself
I will make a video today explaining the steps on how to build it. I tried typing it out but it was getting confusing.
How mount motor
With screws duh
nice
Did u have to weld sprocket
Might be able to get a little more power with a different exhaust setup
yes!
