Puch ZA50 Transmission Rebuild (Replacing Pucks & Flipping Second Gear)
Переглядів 4,8 тис.3 роки тому
On nearly every two speed Puch, we are asked to “install new pucks and flip second,” But WHY?!?! The Shift Dampener Pucks absorb the blow form the shift in gears from first to second, so you want to replace the new 40yr old one often become brittle from sitting and disintegrate. You’ll want to do this, even to a stock bike. Flipping second gear causes later engagement, allowing you to ride out ...

    I came here to try and learn about spark on my friends PUCH. You do pretty well on explanation..... until you get to 3;50 After spending a long time explaining how and where to ground a wire you then tell the colors of some other wires.... that you are not worried about. THEN as I wait to find out what wire gives spark you quickly say " I could use this wire directly " which of course we cant see the wire colors you are talking about. Who knows if you actually later on say the color of the important wire this video is about.... no one has time to watch more hoping that you will give the color later down the road. Now I,m not trying to be a dick.... just so you learn and make many great videos in the future. SO.... any guy that can check points and understands a wiring block does not need 30 seconds about how or where to ground a wire. Secondly... telling the colors of wires and then stating " But we arnt concerned with these today " Nope ! If is isnt important to the videos topic.... dont waste time on it. Thirdly... many guys dont have a big screen and can only go by your verbal identifications... You can zoom in but you need to to specifically say what size , shape , location , entry, exit , movement , shape etc. the thing is while showing it. ( pretend your viewer is blind ) Good advice , I swear. Good luck

      Thanks for the view and the feedback. The color of the ground wire (Blue wire with Black) was mentioned 2X before the 3:50 mark. From 1:38-1:45 we discuss "What you are going to be looking to do is to get a ground out of your blue wire that's got the black stripe on it" At 2:15 we repeat "What you're going to be trying to do is ground this black with the blue (Wire)." At 4:10; we mention "I'm shoving this wire in circuit with my blue ignition wire," to let the viewers know that the ignition wire is blue. From 6:15-6:28, we mention "Checking for spark is basically going to be grounding your blue-black and then getting yoru solid blue ignition wire to show spark anywhere from that wire back to the cases." Hopefully that helps to clear things up. Let us know if you have any other questions!

    Very helpful video. I managed to take off the first gear, clutch cover, and first clutch no problem. When it came to the second clutch it didn’t seem to want to move so I didn’t mess with it. Is it tied into the ignition side? I noticed you guys have everything removed from the other side in this video. Do you have to remove everything from the starter/electrical side in order to pull out the rest of the transmission?

    Hello and thanks much for taking time and effort to put together such great series. I purchased Puch Magnum XK from an estate sale. It seems to be in a very good decades-unused condition. Since I am not tech-savvy, can you please point me in the right direction as to the basic maintenance steps I should perform to get moped running? E.g. which parts need to be oiled, cleaned/checked prior to filling up tank and trying to start it. Many thanks in advance. - Ed.

    DO NOT sit or stand on a moped while it is on the centerstand. The centerstand is designed to support the weight of the bike ONLY. I have seen so many bent stands and even frames cause by people sitting or standing on it while it was on the centerstand. The correct way to start a pedal moped is to either get on it and pedal it WHILE IT IS ON IT'S WHEELS, or, if you need to start it on the stand, stand on the left side of the moped, put the left pedal at about the 10:00 o'clock position, and firmly push down. DO NOT PUT YOUR WEIGHT ON THE CENTERSTAND.

    • @BlackSublime

      Do you know how to fix a bent stand? This might sounds like a dumb question but the one I bought was bent and I’ve not been able to find anything online to help with fixing it.

    • @geraldscott4302
      @geraldscott4302 2 роки тому

      @@BlackSublime What is the stand for, and how badly is it bent? Moped stands tend to be very flimsy and easy to bend. The best way to straighten a bent stand is to heat it till it is red hot, so the metal is soft, and bend it back. Unfortunately you risk actually burning a hole in it if it is really thin. If it is for a common bike like a Puch or Tomos, I would look for another stand.

    Great video guys. I'm a 25 year auto tech, and what I've learned is that I still have alot to learn. I've had my 78 maxi in custom resto form for 14 years. It was my daily for 3. The gearing and clutch engagement was never right for intersections or pulling steep hills. I finally got in there to see what was what and found first gear clutch material disintegrated. Also found puck material crumbled. Not to mention second gear clutch spring was sprung! I ordered the first gear treat clutch and malossi springs, and a used second gear clutch. Haven't received shipment yet, and I'm glad cause y'all got some great pointers on this one! Thanks! I'm down here in Maryland. I hope to check out your shop one day!

    Nice video, keep up the good job! I wish I had this kind of videos back then when I started with my za50. Regarding the adjustment nut, the manual says: "Turn the adjustment nut, for the short starting cable to the right until rear wheel is dragging when turning by hand. Mark this position on the adjustment nut and sleeve. From the applied mark turn adjustment nut six full turns to the left - with new starting clutch or seven turns to the left with a run-in starting clutch This adjustment assures the needed clearance of .008 - .012 in. (0.20-0.30 mm) between the starting clutch and the engaging plate." Hope it helps. Btw, dont you have to use a tensor for that cable? There is one ribbon(?) in the right side of the frame where you can place a tensor to adjust the tension on the cover.

    Doing a small resto on an 82 magnum 2 za50. It's in pretty decent shape. I rebuilt the carb and cleaned the the piston head. I'm nervous to dive into the transmission. The transmission plug was so brittle, it broke apart from me barely turning it. What should I do about the trans? Does it need fluid? Also the gas tank is roached but that's a different issue
