- In this video, I break down the basic process of locating the stronghold after leaving the nether. I do my best to explain triangulation in a simple way and provide a couple ways to practice some of the techniques. In the last few minutes of the video, I review the math used to make the triangulation calculations.

For those struggling with the 17.5 blocks, the way I've worked out to do it as follows:
Hold crouch. Jump forward 25 times in a row while continuing to crouching. After your 25th jump, release the forward and jump buttons, but keep holding crouch, so that you stop pretty much where you land. Still holding crouch. Do one more forward jump. That should put you close to 17.5 blocks distance fairly reliably, so long as it's over a level distance.
If you did a 26th crouch jump without stopping, it puts you too far forward. Coming to a complete stop removes all your momentum, so that the next jump is a shorter distance.
Btw. the angle chart can be summed up by saying 1000 / _angle difference_ = amount of blocks the stronghold is in
thanks
Ok
This is so cool, I'm so happy I found this video :) I love both the practical MC knowledge and the math involved to get there!
Thanks! Also incredibly underrated. This is one of the only helpful videos i’ve found. Love the effort!
Thank you!!! It takes a lot of effort to capture all the details and I really appreciate you mentioning that.
This is just what I've been looking for. Thanks a ton!
Cool! Let me know if you have any questions. It was a difficult subject to cover while trying to keep the video relatively short. Thanks for the feedback!
Is there a way to mathematically estimate the amount of block you are from that nether fortress
@@faserrblx4299 The answer to your question is, kind of... I made a video discussing how you can use the pie chart to locate fortresses and other things, but it’s based on chunk distances (which can be converted to blocks). The issue is we use the pie chart to locate spawners in the nether which indicate either a fortress or treasure bastion. There are ways to tell the difference, but something to be aware of. If you’d like more information, check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/6F7WiMfr7Zo/v-deo.html
@@boomerplayz7086 i watched, it was so useful thanks! :D
@@faserrblx4299 cool! Hopefully it made sense. It can be a bit tricky so you’ll want to play around with it a bit.
Your channel is soooo underrated. This help me alot.I like the quality of your vids bud keep up the good work I hope U will be booming soon!!!
Thank you!!! I'm glad I could help!
Love the video! from start to finish!!!
Thank you man! Really high quality tutorials. Good shit
Thank you! I’m learning the video editing stuff on the fly so the more I figure that part out, the better I can get at explaining.
thank youu, you deserve so many more subs :DD
Wow this video needs more Views! Great well made video! Keep it up
Thanks! I appreciate the feedback and will definitely keep it up. I have lots of ideas, just need more time in the day... : )
You did it ! Tanks you so much ! LOVE WHAT YOU DO ! ^^
high quality and extremely helpful. pog.
Thanks! I’m glad it helped!
underrated youtuber, great content!
Thanks for the kind words!
Pense que no iba a necesitar recordar nunca mas el Teorema de Pitagoras, pero ahora si para el minecraft xD.
Muy buen video!
¡Ja! ¡Pensé que también había terminado con las matemáticas!
Can you, after your nether travel tutorial do a dragon boss fight tutorial ? With east, west, north south and all these crazy stuff ? Would be amazing thanks ! You make great content !
That’s a great idea! I’ve been practicing boss fights to help improve my own game and some of the details are a bit tricky. I’m sure lots of people could benefit from a video like that. Thanks for the suggestion! And yes, I’ll make it.
@@boomerplayz7086 🎉😊
Thank you so much. I'll make sure to link you when I get the wr ;-)
Awesome! Although, when you get the WR, I won’t be able to take any of the credit. It will be because of your hard work and skills! : )
@@boomerplayz7086 *Wholesomeness intensifies
Thanks for this u deserve more than 1M❤
Than you!
I've found that using the visual sound setting i kept consistently landing on exactly 17.5 blocks. What i do is count how many footstep audios there are and stop at 10, of course if you had reliable enough hearing you can just listen for them too. This is good for flat areas for sure but im sure it would also work for slopes and inclines.
Best guy i have ever meet on UA-cam
Can you make a tutorial on fortresses, especially dealing with wither skeletons and fighting blazes without a shield?
This is such as underrated channel thank you
Sure! That sounds like fun. I'm working on a video now and then will try that next. Thanks for the kind words!
Your videos are helping me so much in speedrunning! Thank you for making them you are explaining it amaizingly!
I’m glad they’re helping you! Thanks for the kind words!
Absolutely boss video cheers man
Thanks for the feedback! Cheers!
great video, well done!
Thank you!
Thanks so much for this, makes a lot more sense now. Also I had no idea calculators were illegal, glad I watched this before I blow a run by accident
They are now legal and have been used in a WR by Cube133x
thank yuo for including math explanation
Nice guide bro, ty
Thanks and you’re welcome!

Illumina: *no*
Hah! Yeah, I don’t think Illumina will be using this strat much. At least not anything related to F3...
I have a question, how the difference between the angle give us an angle of the triangle? whats the math behind this? or how is the method called?
Great video thank u!!!:)
Thank you!!!
OMG TYSM I GOT A SUB 20 AND THIS CAME IN CLUTCH
That’s so cool! Congratulations on a sub 20! That puts you in the mix with the top runners. Sub 15 next?
@@boomerplayz7086 Yes, I got 2 sub 15s. Very proud of that. Thank you!
@@speedy6037 Congratulations!
OMG THANK YOU!!!!!!
You're welcome!
Can you do the 17 block thing with the blocks in chunk borders shown if you throw the first eye on a chunk border you only need to run to the next chunk and then one more block and a half
Only if you’re traveling exactly east/west or north/south. If you used that technique at 45 degrees, you’d be off by quite a bit. The diagonal of a square is about 1.4x the length of each side. Does that make sense?
@@boomerplayz7086 oh yeah I’m dumb 😂
@@chicken_croissantpbs3162 I guess that makes two of us because I thought the same thing at first and then realized my error. The cool part is that you get the concept and are thinking critically about options. Which means you’re good at critical thought and finding solutions. Good stuff!
Are you alowed to print off the distance to Ange variation chart to have on your desk that is shown at 6:15
Also am I allowed to type directions in chat
I believe the answer to both your questions is yes; however, if you will be submitting runs for verification, make sure you read all the rules on the MCSR site here: www.minecraftspeedrunning.com/home
By using the law of sines, you don't have to travel any specific distance or face any specific angle for the eye throws.
Love it
maybe it will be useful thx
Thank u very much
You’re welcome!
Can we use composter and gravel or sand
UPDATE: as of the 9th of December, 2021, calculators have been unbanned in speedrunning, that means you can now use automatic stronghold locators
Thx boi :D
8:28 u can use snow balls too
Is that Creeper rowing the boat? Impressive.
are you allowed to have this chart displayed whilst doing a speedrun?
I feel really stupid for asking this, but -
When it comes to turning 90 degrees, is there a simple rule to mentally calculate the degree you should jump 17,5 blocks in when your turn takes you across + and - ? If, for example, I'm looking at 163 degrees and I definitely should turn to the right (because of bad terrain to the left), it's cumbersome to have to add up to 180 / - 180(giving a difference of 17 degrees used, leaving 73 to subtract from - 180), to then subtract the remaining degrees from 180 (- 180 - 73 = - 107) to find the degree to jump in.
Something like 36 degrees + 90 degrees = 126 degrees is obviously much quicker and easier.
It's definitely not a stupid question for the exact reason you point out. Since we are only traveling 17.5 blocks, if we are off by a few degrees one way or the other when trying to estimate 90 degrees, it won't have a huge impact on the results. Starting off, I would try to be as precise as possible, but found it's not super important. What I've been doing lately, when it's a situation like your example, I look straight down at the block I'm standing on (making sure I'm still facing the initial angle), then visualize what 90 degrees would be, rotate, then look up and travel 17.5 blocks. Does that make sense?
@@boomerplayz7086 Ah okay. Yep, makes sense. It's great cus that definitely makes it less cumbersome if you don't need to be right on the dot with this part. I'll try this in practice some. Thanks!
@@magicalmysteryollie I’d say the most important thing is to be as accurate as possible when checking the angle of travel of each eye, the second most important piece is trying to travel as close to 17.5 blocks as possible and the 90 degree part would be third.
watching this to help me understand the flowbee controversy lol
Tysm
Im trying to find all 128 strongholds and this will help me a loot, i don't know why im doing that but im doing it
just use calculator
@@brilliantbrb3290 that's illegal
@@elambroo its not
I just use that for a survival server but it's perfect so I don't need to waste too much endereyes
And can you use paper in a speedrun? Like if calculator isnt allowed, is solving equations on paper allowed?
I’m not 100% certain. Some of the rules around pausing and taking time to “think” are in the process of being redefined. I suggest reviewing the rules related to the category before doing anything that might be questionable. A good place to ask or check is the speed running subreddit: www.reddit.com/r/MinecraftSpeedrun/
When you said "calculators are banned in speedrunning" did you mean like, just any calculator? I don't see how being able to add, subtract, divide, or mulitply, or do any other basic maths operation could give an unfair advantage
I agree with you, but I think all calculators are banned. I believe it has to do with limiting the run to a player's skill and preparation. To my knowledge, you can have charts and figures printed out, but a calculator is not allowed. You should be able to find the latest rules here: www.minecraftspeedrunning.com/home
I love you
I’m glad you liked the video!
You should actually use cosecans
nice video only thing is it could be bit faster
you can surelly include more math
make sure to include math. really interesting :)
Thanks!
After this video i can speedrun xd
Why is 17.5 used?
this is why we can play minecraft in math classes..
show this pro some support
boomers videos are great
I’m confused :(
why 17.5 blocks and not another amount?
I tried to explain it at 5:30
Basically, it allows us to correlate 1 degree angle variance with a distance of 1000 blocks. I put a link to the table I created in the description.
@@boomerplayz7086 oh I understood, it is that I find it difficult for the language. tnx
Alternate title: Minecraft but we do trigonometry
Hah! Exactly!
me when i was 9: yay sin x in my head
bruh im having severe trouble turning 90 degrees
A chunk is 17 blocks wide it may be helpful
a chunk is 16 blocks
ty for the help, hope this coment and sub help you too!
Thanks for your support! Everything helps!
:)
Cool video bro, too bad I'm on console 😭
Why aren’t calculators allowed like what’s cheats about that
I believe it has to do with limiting the run to a player's skill and preparation. To my knowledge, you can have charts and figures printed out, but a calculator is not allowed.
Lol its harder than learning maths XD
boomer look out for the creeper behind you!
math? again..
I know, right?! I tried to make things as easy as possible, but there is a bit of math involved. At least you don’t have to do trigonometry if you reference the table... : )
@@boomerplayz7086 you have been successful and you made things as easy as possible thanks for that i really hates mahts but its so enjoyable :)
Ok boomer
