    I dont get why people are bashing this guy - he seems to be trained in his forms. Motions seems fluid. Am I missing something?

    • @Heimdal001
      @Heimdal001 6 років тому +3

      These are 'his' forms, not actual forms. He doesn't understand, nor capture, the nature of this weapon, aside from the most superficial aspects.
      And the last move in the form has him stab himself in the temple with the metaphorical sword his off hand fingers are making, which is hilarious.

    • @GayPhrogs
      @GayPhrogs 5 років тому +1

      Because those forms are Shaolin-Do, an indonesian system of Kuntao created by Sin Kwang The. It is not "kung fu." It is a poor imitation. Sin actually has this exact form posted online. His looks equally as bad.

      ted rebel, egos. This is how he chooses to train. I respect his sharing and effort. I developed my own style and won't judge anothers. The most important thing, is what you're doing effective in reality or is your training for exhibition?

    I've always been hypercritical of this guy but after seeing this sword form. I can tell he has a wonderful understanding of the form very fluid and understands the critical points of the form to master as well. Understanding what is hard for a student to master and training for it is amazing this is what really makes the difference to me. I can see where I am sloppy and how I might need to practice. very few show their usually confidential training tips like this.

    His videos seem very informative. I find it hard to believe that someone would not be able to take anything from his videos, apply them to his or herself and reap some type of benefit. I don't know Jake, but he's humble and willing to share his knowledge with the masses, while those of you who disparage him have put up nothing in the way of evidence to back your own claims. That's some Hatorade of epic proportions.

    • @Heimdal001
      @Heimdal001 6 років тому +2

      The problem with his humbleness and willingness to share his knowledge, is that he doesn't know Kung Fu, but he calls himself a Master in it as he teaches 'stuff'. He is neither humble nor knowledgeable.
      If you watch closely enough to various videos of his, there's a lot of evidence in them. He often forgets about his unused hand, and gibbles it by his belly, while the other hand does a 'technique'. The only stance he cares about holding low and proper is horse stance. He adds big kicks to everything, because big kicks look cool. All of his different styles are only different in the most superficial ways, while he approaches all of them with the same force-on-force mindset (even tai chi!?) The list could go on...

      Thank you for the reply. I am not very knowledgeable on そりゅ空手 or Soryu Karate. Is this the Karate that was founded in Texas or the one from 内地(ないち)Naichi or mainland Japan? Because I do not know so much about this style of Karate I am not for sure how to write it in Japanese. Is the art that you train in a synthesis of Soryu Karate;功夫 or Kung fu (some form Chinese Wu shu?);柔術(じゅうじゅつ)Jujutsu if it Japanese;柔道(じゅうどう) Judo and 合気柔術(あいきじゅうじゅつ) Aikijujutsu if it is Japanese with the boxing and kickboxing too? My focus of study is Japanese/Okinawan Martial Arts. What info can you share with us on the 日本の武道 or Japanese Martial Arts part of your training? Thank you. Osu

      Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace You move too quick... The traditional art requires you to be precise... And btw, the most 'advance' Chinese weapon you mentioned is in fact not the sword, it is a weapon called 方天畫丈(check it out). Although the sword has the most 'ways', the weapon I said is one of the strongest and advanced weapon in history, it can do everything a sword can do but it is really hard to master as it is a 'heavy weapon'. The ones who were able to weld it are usually high rank officers and famous 'warriors'. The reason why this weapon is the most 'advance' Chinese weapon, if the person using it had really master it( which is nearly impossible, same as mastering the sword) the damage and techniqe required is much more than the sword...
      However if u meant 'advance' by as a way to medicate.. sry that I mistook Ur meaning

    • @chrizchow7655
      @chrizchow7655 6 років тому

      Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace And also, the spear is the king of the Chinese weapons, the sword is the君工(gentleman) of them. The reason is you can chose not to harm the opponent but still threaten his life, giving him a opportunity to live and not fight dirty, it also helps you build a better personality (such as patience)

      The sword is the master of all weapons; he isn't wrong about that. The sword masters wrote entire volumes on why this was the case - and they were undefeated in duels and combat. Please study, rather than making yourself look so stupid.

      If the guy started pissing on his own arm, Jake might be confused, but it's basically what he's teaching anyways.
      There's no need to be perfect, but one needs to at least try to take care of their weapon. Doing pushups over top of a sword, touching your nose to the blade... any legitimate kung fu master would have a fit seeing a student do that!

    Great video! Strict adherence to form is important even when fatigued. Also, a proper push-up is down with the practitioner looking slightly forward with the chin in line with the navel, as if a straight line is being drawn from chin to navel and activating the core. Or, creating the straight line, opening a path, for chi to flow from the dan tien.

    On average, what ratio of time do you set aside for practicing technique with your black belts?

    • @nonsononessunooko4066

      for me ( i am no one)simply because more muscle more cardio more power all the better for martial arts stop just to train tecnique and not do at least cardio would be a bit of a waste in my opinion.

    I been making knifes and throwing knifes all the time but I never really made a sword i got one what looks like crap it dont look bad its just in bad shape. Do any you guys know if its better to have more weight on the handle or should there be more weight on the blade itself

    • @joebloggs5318
      @joebloggs5318 4 роки тому

      Forget that idea of a perfectly balanced because it's a load of crap only good for fantasy novels or dungeons and dragons. An axe is 'perfectly' balanced because it needs the majority of weight in the head to cut into stuff. Thrusting weapons need a point of balance further back. Cutting weapons need the point of balance further forward. Obviously the majority of the weight will be in the blade. Main ways to bring the point of balance further back are to add a crossguard before the handle is fitted to the tang, and then add a pommel to the tang after the handle is fitted. Depending on what kind of sword you want you might need to shorten the blade or add a basket hilt or a bunch of other things. It works both ways. If you pick up a sword and see it has a point of balance eight inches from the tip you're obviously meant to be swinging it to land cuts. Also if you have a mainly cutting based style say like wushu then you'll need a sword with a forward point of balance. Swordmaking is tough work, good luck.

    • @valandil7454
      @valandil7454 4 роки тому

      A Chinese Jian is weighted a little more up the blade towards the point of percussion (the part that you'd strike with) than our european swords that have it closer to the hilt for balance in the hand, hence the wide sweeping motions in their forms
      Ignore anyone that says they're just decorative, the Chinese used them as sidearms on the battlefield for almost a millenia now. The ones you see these guys using are training weapons

    Jian is not king of the weapons. Spear is king of the weapons. Jian is queen of weapons.
    And Ma Bu... regardless of whether it's a Southern or Northern (which includes Internal systems)... feet are parallel. And yes it's a big deal.

    Shifu Jake, I really enjoy reading the opening proverbs in the intros to your videos. But they also beg me to ask the question: do you adhere to the teachings and philosophical beliefs of Taoism, Buddhism, or perhaps a hybrid of both?
    Would love to here your thoughts. Cheers.

      The actual Shaolin Temple hasn't taught traditional kung fu in hundreds of years. So unless you are the worlds oldest man, I seriously doubt it. Nice try though. Monks are also far more humble. Good zen, doesn't teach insults.

    this is flawed i know the drunk sword style , kali , polish saber , the italian eagle style , kendo and trained in ninjutsu i can tell this is off and would land you dead in battle. i can see the peaceful part of it in the sense its not meant for battle like spirituality and in modern day this is good since people now use guns instead of swords but still martial arts originated cause people needed ways to defend themselves by that i mean war or bandits and such cause that was a part of daily life back then kill or be killed. anyway if you are making these videos for spiritual or meditational reasons then you are doing a damm good job and would like to see more . but if these are videos for actual self defence then i am sorry but its just not practical .anyways good content

    Okay, okay, okay. I don't know why I'm bothering with this, but... why is half the comment section being so hateful? If you truly are better at the sword than the guys in the video, scoff at it and move on. Really no need to publicly insult the guy. And just a blind guess, but I don't think the great many of you insulting him have any reason for your attitudes besides a feeling that you are fluent in Chinese culture because you watch kung-fu movies. And another thing: tai-chi is used more for show and exercise than it is practical. If you want practical fighting go with mixed martial arts.
    Though it may not be true, I'm getting the feeling that half the comment section don't know crap about Chinese culture, but still feel like they have the right to tell others off for being disrespectful. It really pisses me off that people from another continent feel like they know enough about Chinese culture to have the status to police others in regards to Chinese culture (it's a bad reason, but nobody's perfect). If you really do see a problem with well, anything, then do respond to it with at least a tad it of respect for a fellow human being.
    P.S. Before you start sharpening your virtual internet knives in response to my long rant, I am Chinese. But I'm pretty sure y'all are fluent enough in English to infer that.

      No taichi isn't for show. It is the grand ultimate fist. Built for war, as the pinnacle of internal forms. Having been all across Asia; one thing I noted from the monastery - right across to the Ryu in Okinawa, is that where you are from means nothing. I have no idea why you fools keep mentioning it. You live and you die. Tàijí quán was born on the battlefield. It deserves better than to be mocked; and these people in the video are being criticized not for their MA directly; but by claiming to be masters. Which they are not. China has beginners who aren't fully into their teenage years who are vastly more capable. Martial arts aren't a game. Get them wrong - and you die. The fact that some of us still use skills like these in warzones seems to escape people. When you are alone; and your weapon jams. Or even if you are a young person about to be mugged and raped in an ordinary life - you need effectiveness. Properly developed Taichi can readily beat an average criminal. Whatever abomination this, will do naught but get you killed.
