@@gregfair1749 To be fair, the body style is very similar and the car is so modified that it's hard to tell. Ford Australia actually went with the wide rear guard bulges on the XB GT so they could fit fat racing tyres on the Bathurst race cars. That's why the standard road car looks like it has such small wheels. But the XB never actually won Bathurst because the engines kept grenading due to oil starvation and the higher grip was partly to blame (plus the teams weren't allowed to change to a baffled oil pan). A fun bit of trivia.
What is an ashtray? The last vehicle I had that had one was my 1997 Explorer. The 2006 Focus I drive only has a power port where a lighter would work and no ash tray.

Twenty years ago when I was on patrol I drove a Caprice Classic with the LT1 engine police package. Mind you, not 600HP like Max's machine, but it did get up and go for sure. We old school coppers love fast cars.
My buddy with the Pueblo, Colorado Police department drove the 95 Caprice LT1 Interceptor for 2 years. The car tore up 2 transmissions and 1 rear end due to the power and torque. I rode with him once on a chance and the digital readout was showing 168mph and he said it still had pedal left....

That's a century of producers and filmmakers who didn't like anything that wasn't American. So that often takes a long time to do. However there were some remnants that still stayed there, those guys convinced Hollywood that Australian, both accent and slang was too difficult to understand. Naturally the 80s and Road Warrior came in after as a big fuck you to them.
Officially, the reason was George didn't know if it would play well with US audiences due to the fact that the "hero cars" are machines Americans would have never heard of, had it not been for the cult status of the Mad Max series. The accents were dubbed so as to make it "more viewer friendly" for US audiences, just in case they had trouble following Australian accents. I kid you not. One the first one proved to be a hit, with the second highest profit margin for a movie ever, he stopped doing that

Only 4 cars were ever made, 3 (red) were made for rally, but only one (green) actually went through the production line. One of 3 rally cars was destroyed in a race. Being modular, 351 Cleveland and 351 Windsor engines allowed both DOHC and SOHC configuration. Theoretical calculation shows that 351 Cleveland DOHC engine, if equipped with Weiand GM 6-71 supercharger, Scott FI and nitro mix (nitro was used differently back in those days) would deliver 597hp (445kW) at the wheels (standard was 412hp 303kW) delivering 546ft/lbs (740Nm) of torque (standard was 390ft/lbs, 526Nm). Estimated top speed would be 171mph (275km/h) which is pretty consistent to the 3rd (and last) test of the Bathurst models where the top speed was 170mph (273km/h). Correctly titled as the car was indeed a Pursuit Special. Listen to the radio transmission as Max has his leg shot and his arm run over... The fact that it's wrongly called the Interceptor in the later film is just a mistake. Oops!
Correct. The Pursuit Specials were black, the Interceptor was part of the coloured vehicles. Knightrider was also in a Pursuit special which was black.

In the case of the Interceptor, it was a Weiand 6/71 with a Scott fuel injection hat. Underneath which the real carburettor hid

I was a boy when I first watched this.. been nuts about cars ever since, driving that would beat sex anyday.
Between that car and all the bikes this movie was a wet dream to 17 yr old me when I saw it on HBO back in the day 1985 or 1986. Best car bike movie ever.

Blower sounds awesome. I never forget that sound and I love the Mad Max movie as well.
The word from Hot Rod magazine was that engine was a Pontiac 455 with a Weiand blower.

They had Cleveland engines into the 1980's while we had them to 1974. Replaced by the 351m/400.

Correct. The Pursuit Specials were black, the Interceptor was part of the coloured vehicles. Knightrider was also in a Pursuit special which was black.

SAMBA MACHINERY RECORDS My thoughts exactly. I consider that scene one of the most saddest to the point it make a knot in my throat. SUCH INFAMY!! Destroying the Pursuit Special is the same as removing the stripes from a tiger's skin. I imagine an epilogue showing a mysterious group of black-claded men than came out of nowhere gathering and recovering the Pursuit Special body and parts.
The moral of the first film is Max becoming what he hated. He literally became the Nightrider.As he says to Fifi , it's that made race out there I'm beginning to enjoy it.
