I payed a visit to Melbourne a few years back, and visited the "MFP" headquarters, and this garage. The damp smell of moisture was in the air, but the feeling was amazing, like that car left a piece of it's aura behind. I ain't bullshitting, it was black.

My buddy with the Pueblo, Colorado Police department drove the 95 Caprice LT1 Interceptor for 2 years. The car tore up 2 transmissions and 1 rear end due to the power and torque. I rode with him once on a chance and the digital readout was showing 168mph and he said it still had pedal left....

Ford Australia actually went with the wide rear guard bulges on the XB GT so they could fit fat racing tyres on the Bathurst race cars. That's why the standard road car looks like it has such small wheels. But the XB never actually won Bathurst because the engines kept grenading due to oil starvation and the higher grip was partly to blame (plus the teams weren't allowed to change to a baffled oil pan). A fun bit of trivia.

Only 4 cars were ever made, 3 (red) were made for rally, but only one (green) actually went through the production line. One of 3 rally cars was destroyed in a race. Being modular, 351 Cleveland and 351 Windsor engines allowed both DOHC and SOHC configuration. Theoretical calculation shows that 351 Cleveland DOHC engine, if equipped with Weiand GM 6-71 supercharger, Scott FI and nitro mix (nitro was used differently back in those days) would deliver 597hp (445kW) at the wheels (standard was 412hp 303kW) delivering 546ft/lbs (740Nm) of torque (standard was 390ft/lbs, 526Nm). Estimated top speed would be 171mph (275km/h) which is pretty consistent to the 3rd (and last) test of the Bathurst models where the top speed was 170mph (273km/h). That's a century of producers and filmmakers who didn't like anything that wasn't American. So that often takes a long time to do. However there were some remnants that still stayed there, those guys convinced Hollywood that Australian, both accent and slang was too difficult to understand. Naturally the 80s and Road Warrior came in after as a big fuck you to them.
Officially, the reason was George didn't know if it would play well with US audiences due to the fact that the "hero cars" are machines Americans would have never heard of, had it not been for the cult status of the Mad Max series. The accents were dubbed so as to make it "more viewer friendly" for US audiences, just in case they had trouble following Australian accents. I kid you not. For those interested in the location of the opening scene here with the brick buildings, it is the old Spotswood Pumping Station (for sewer) built in 1897 which is now disused and forms part of the Scienceworks museum in Spotswood, Victoria, Australia. Inside are located some beautiful old steam engines. The underground carpark is from a different location, not sure where.

The opening chase was the last scene filmed for the movie. All the MFP cars are here in one spot. If you look closely you can see the lightbar from Max's yellow interceptor is on Nightrider's black Monaro. From left to right you can see March Hare, Max's yellow interceptor, And Big Bopper. You can also see a white station wagon behind the black interceptor that appears in the nighttime accident scene.

I saw this car at the cars of the stars museum. Lots of cars there, but this was the only one where I ran under the rope and touched it. I haven't washed my hand since. Well worth getting thrown out for.

The opening chase was the last scene filmed for the movie. All the MFP cars are here in one spot. If you look closely you can see the lightbar from Max's yellow interceptor is on Nightrider's black Monaro. From left to right you can see March Hare, Max's yellow interceptor, And Big Bopper. You can also see a white station wagon behind the black interceptor that appears in the nighttime accident scene.

The word from Hot Rod magazine was that engine was a Pontiac 455 with a Weiand blower.

They had Cleveland engines into the 1980's while we had them to 1974. Replaced by the 351m/400.

He says its the last of the v8's. Not the last of the v8 interceptors. This car is only referred to as an interceptor in the later movies i believe. Max drives a Falcon xb interceptor in mfp colours at the beginning of the movie.

I saw this car at the cars of the stars museum. Lots of cars there, but this was the only one where I ran under the rope and touched it. I haven't washed my hand since. Well worth getting thrown out for.

Turn up your speakers guys! Who give a fat rats ass if the blowers fake and the motor is dubbed, that will ALWAYS be the BEST SOUND OF A CAR STARTING IN MOVIE HISTORY! Our great grand kids will think that the tits as well, don't you worry. ;)
