As a 9 year old watching this at a drive in movie theater here in the States it was awesome.I know much about the cars of the day but that XB blew my mind.Fond memories from a old mechanic here in the state of Virginia.
I've loved those cars ever since the original movie came out. I was a new police officer in the U.S. and wanted to drive the Interceptor. I still do as a retired cop many years later.
Still one of the best movies ever made, and still an absolute wet dream of a car. "A p-p-p-piece from here, a-and a p--iece from there"... Stuff that movie legends are made of.:)
@@sadok6066 Kind of a different version/telling...more akin to a reboot, which takes nothing away from the original. They're both great, for different reasons. The 1979 film, during the Cold War, was a piece of cinematic art that was like a warning: hang on to your humanity, or society -- already on the edge of a knife -- will crumble.
God bless Australia!!!....I love Mad Max since I was 5 years old....now I am 46 and I still love it....Mel should be our president....best regards from Mexico!
NOPE the 1957 chev in running on empty did it for me, which is all real cars not cars done up to look real ? But in saying that i have the original photos taken by the prop department for the crash scenes in MAD MAX 1 re: Pipe road / cherry lane in Laverton car chase and the XP Ute towing the Caravan etc. :) Which by the way was all done by blue screens, some of the car chase scenes were real and some of the crashes, but some of the crashes were not. :)
I'm 36 and I just saw the movie for the first time the other day. If they made that style of Falcon here in the US, I guarantee they'd still be on the road today.
First saw Mad Max when it was on HBO probably 1980, as a 9 year old it blew me away and still love it. The car the Nightrider stole is really cool too.
I saw this at the movies in 1980 (UK) and absolutely fell in love. I must’ve seen Mad Max hundreds of times since. In fact I have the 4k discs featuring both dubbed ( which I saw at the movies) and the Aussie original version in my collection. By God, what a movie! Oh no……I’m blaspheming again!
From what i remember the Holden Monaro used by the Nightrider was also called Pursuit Special. And there were two versions of the yellow XB ones, one called Pursuit and one Interceptor.
Sorry as an American my opinion on Australia iconic film series don't mean much but the first mad max by far the best it gives reason for max being mad the emotional roller coaster it gave is awsom so to me Mad Max the best in it original Australia sound score
This movie is iconic, as is its cars, but I also think that it is very much a film of its day. The Falcons were just cars of the day, with the two XBs actually ex-police vehicles, not the 'exotic' Mustangs they originally wanted to use. That said, what's not to love about the 351-4V motors and the muscular styling? For a contemporary version of Max, they'd need to use contemporary police vehicles to maintain a similar level of realism. Where I live, the police use specially built Ford Interceptor SUVs (based on the Ford Explorer). They're nice, but... ain't no Falcon, that's for sure.
I've seen a few of those mfp xb falcons around, the last one was a couple months ago in Gosford. It was slightly faded but the fading made it look better.
The only car that still looks awesome if it gets roughed up. If i had the money id have both the nice one from the first movie and the rough one from the second

When it came time to modify my black 09 clubby I used the same ideas as the ducks guts interceptor. Roof spoiler, small boot spoiler, black wheels and matte black highlights. That car definitely made an impression on my young mind about how a tough car should look.
What most people outside Australia won't know is that these models of car were used stock as Taxis in Sydney during late 70's and early 80's ... we used to ride in them as a matter of course.
Having both the original and US version on DVD I think that the US dialogue in the opening had Roop jump on the radio to say ''...and better send an ambulance because Charlie has been hurt real bad" where as the original is "...and better send a meat truck as Charlie has copped a saucepan in the throat".
Sweet looking cars. If I lived in Australia, and I could afford one of the two, I'd take the XB Falcon MFP sedan. It's always been my favourite of the two.
Even the official UK release had the American overdub, I bought it on DVD a while back, watched ten seconds before being immediately horrified, then thankfully found the original Aussie soundtrack as an audio option. It was a close call.
Maaaan,I'd love to drive a BEAST like one of these. The nearest thing to a ford Falcon we had here in Brasil was the Maverick V8 engine ones. My mother had a ford Corcel 1978. Was amazing with a GREAT motor too. Memories

"Duck's guts" sums up these two beasts in a nutshell. Parents had a XY station wagon so the Ford family line was pretty much set in stone. I had a XA sedan with 'everything' except a 351 ... and a XB sedan with a 351, but unfortunately it had a terminal illness. Along the way I've had a Capri, Cortina, EA sedan, and a AU II ute. На мой взгляд из двух этих авто популярнее именно чёрный на чёрном хоть конечно и увидели и услышали его только в гараже в самом начале, но в конце он больше запомнился 👍👍👍👍
First saw MM2 (aka: The Road Warrior) at the drive in movies on the Gold Coast. A few XA Falcons in the crowd and one fastback did a HUGE burnout as it was leaving. That got a cheer from the crowd but he must have put gravel rash on a dozen cars. Arsehole / legend.
I remember being being at the cinema as a kid, and all the films were coming soon aired their trailers. Mad Max totally stuck with me. So when we got the VHS version I was totally hooked that Australian Ford Falcon XB totally blew me away.
The yellow ‘Pursuit’ car as you introduced it was actually Max’s yellow INTERCEPTOR. If you watch the early scenes of the first movie you will see Max’s yellow Interceptor, like yours had a few cosmetic differences to the yellow Pursuit cars. Five glaring differences are Max’s Interceptor, like yours not only had a different colour scheme to the Pursuit cars but the blue and red rotating lights on the roof were also much larger than the twin blue bubbles on the Pursuit cars. Max’s Interceptor also had a yellow siren on the roof like yours where the Pursuit cars had black. Like yours, Max’s Interceptor had chrome mags as opposed to the yellow mags on the Pursuit cars. Finally Max’s car had the word ***INTERCEPTOR*** decal across the boot/trunk as does yours whereas the others has the word ***PURSUIT*** so please stop referring to the yellow interceptor as a pursuit car. Perhaps you described it as such so as to differentiate between the black coupe and the yellow sedan as they are both interceptors but your description can be quite deceptive.
Yep, both of these cars were INTERCEPTORS. There were two yellow Pursuit cars featured in the film, and the black Pursuit "Special" driven by The Night Rider... Remember Him before you make such a mistake
The black V8 Falcon Coupe is actually a Pursuit Special (you can hear the MFP dispatcher referring to a "possible code 3 on a black Pursuit Special" when Max is chasing down the bikers), the oil refinery mechanic calling it "The last of the V8 Interceptors" was an improvised line, but also shows that, although a skilled mechanic, he isn't in the know about MFP vehicle designations.

I appreciate you sharing the patrol falcon and the interceptor falcon they are some pretty cool aussie muscle and by the way a police chief who looked like a circus strongman named fifi was awesome and I got a kick out of his watering pot plants it was a pretty good gag as one of the local police departments had some pot trees growing infront of the police station and courthouse too

I grew up in WA with an XB GT351 black 2 door coupe around the corner from me.....bit rough around the edges...but perfect in my eyes......damn i wish i could have got it
As a kid I got to ride around in every Falcon from XW to XC as my dad was a Ford man. We also had Zephyrs, Cortinas, Escorts and even ine of the ugly little Anglias. He ONCE took an HQ for a test drive..& promptly returned it. Never rode in another Holden til I bought the first of many Commodores that started with a VL & ended with a VU V8.. now I have a very low mileage BF2 BOSS tucked away in a corner of my garage to come out on sunny days only. I love V8s, I love Commodores but I adore Falcons.. XA to XC particularly. The star of Mad Max is his black interceptor (& only the first movie is really a classic because of this)
Humongous had weird ww2 pictures and medals...dont think goose had anything to do with that plus goose wasnt nearly as big...dude lived up to his fictional name...
No, Goose was way too law abiding and decent, he,d rather kill the skags than run with them, his physical stature is almost secondary or even irrelavent to this discussion.
this is cool, after watching the first one, my dream car was a v8 intercpetor. But because it's almost impossible to get one, I now want a ford falcon xb gt coupe 1973
Original and best Mad Max film... couldn't agree more. I guess I like the characters, Goose, Rupe, Charley, Fifi, the feel of the film, real edgy. The Road Warrior is still awesome. ... is it not the yellow Falcon the "Interceptor" and the black modified Falcon "Pursuit Special"? ... Rupe and Charley's car had just "Pursuit" on it I believe... ???
There was even a plot to have the severely burned and disfigured Goose be Humungus, but time constraints and a whole lot of other crap simply dictated it couldnt be done.
brian a The Goose/Humongous script is bullshit, it's an internet rumour. Not true. The rogue cops are just units that took advantage of their uniform and position during the fall of humanity.
Running on empty is another great early aussie muscle car flick its up there with mad max.I relate to running on empty alot more due to cruzing in toranas falcons hq monaros in the 80`S around the melbourne cbd.Places like lygon st elwood beach oh and sometimes a group of us all cruzing up to the dandy drags ;) and when we weren't out cruzen you would find us under our cars.
No offense but in the movie when chasing the Night Rider , he drove an Interceptor (written on trunk) and other officers drove the Pursuit ( written on trunk). So in video you claimed he drove Pursuit was in correct.
lol I thought it was just a saying, u know like flying debris in the throat until i realised years later it was an actual saucepan lol cos they went through the caravan
I notice the side-pipes are fluted unlike the straight ones seen in Mad Max 2/Road Warrior - a not so exact restoration or were they fluted in the first movie?
The 4 door Pursuit was a worked 302 which beat the 4 door 351 Interceptor. The XA was only a 6cyl. They ran the Monaro through the bush & trees to get it looking rough as it was well looked after, until the movie.
I wish ppl making videos about these cars would actually know what they are talking about. A Coupe was saved, rebuilt & ended up in a London Museum. Then it was sold to a Museum in Florida. It is now up for sale & i hope someone brings it home to OZ where it belongs.
Name the museum and when it was there, then . If that car was in a museum in London i would have seen it . In MM it's called a Pursuit Special and is referred to as such by the dispatcher in the Australian version ; check the scene where Max is ambushed by Bubba and Toecutter . If it was ever called Interceptor in the film then give me the timestamp and I'll check it out . It was called "The last of the V8 Interceptors" only in MM2/TRW . Lastly , all that stuff you wrote about Interceptors and Pursuit Specials is just crap that you made up (presumably when you were vrooming around the carpet with toy cars) ; there's nowt in any of the films to back that up .
Yeah . Tell me when and where it was in London (with your references) and that's good . Otherwise suck it up that it wasn't in London like I'm telling you it wasn't.
There is no best. There is only personal preference. The first movie tells you how and why max is "mad". And it features the undamaged interceptor too, which max uses to hunt down the people who killed his family. The original movie is the purest Mad Max movie of them all and has the best car chase scenes. Its Max's story. Tells you who he is and how how and why he got to be that way. The second movie has a great opening scene.
amaticmk42 Get lost noob. These cars aren't even in that shitty neofeminist garbage film Fuiosa's Road. That film was another garbage action movie for the dumb ass, mainstream masses.
2-4-5 TRIOXIN that was one of the single most painful sentences I’ve ever read, just because a film has a female lead it’s a feminist movie? He film was great and one of the best pieces of action cinema of this generation of shit CGI.
MFP - Main Force Patrol. Keeping together whats left of a dystopian future. Actual ultra dangerous stunts - never to be duplicated with CG computer effects, and insurance regs. outlawed these stunts here in US.
I mean yeah, they had character, but they were also slow as fuck and grossly inefficient. If we are talking aesthetics sure 60's to late 80's any day of the week, but as for being good vehicles, a comprable car in class/price today is far better...

this is cool, after watching the first one, my dream car was a v8 intercpetor. But because it's almost impossible to get one, I now want a ford falcon xb gt coupe 1973
Samfan4 Films the v8 interceptor is the ford falcon they are the same car the monaro intercepter is the yellow car
@@jakkyleggs9002 Nope..The Monaro was nightriders car..The yellow is a Falcon sedan.. Youre obviously not Ozzie lol
Mad Maxs black car IS an XB GT just modyfied
If Mad Max were made now they would most likely use an American Ford Mustang/Shelby GT500.
There was even a plot to have the severely burned and disfigured Goose be Humungus, but time constraints and a whole lot of other crap simply dictated it couldnt be done.
brian a
The Goose/Humongous script is bullshit, it's an internet rumour. Not true. The rogue cops are just units that took advantage of their uniform and position during the fall of humanity.
Goose was my DUDE. Great supporting actor. He gave a lot of the film it's character. Very slept on...
J Paxton how can you not mention BARRY?!
No offense but in the movie when chasing the Night Rider , he drove an Interceptor (written on trunk) and other officers drove the Pursuit ( written on trunk). So in video you claimed he drove Pursuit was in correct.
I always thought the line was
"Charlie's coped a saucer to the throat!" meaning he's losing a lot of blood
lol I thought it was just a saying, u know like flying debris in the throat until i realised years later it was an actual saucepan lol cos they went through the caravan
I thought he slammed his throat into the steering wheel
@@Skydrag.V60 He wasn't driving..right hand drive down under.
Dwayne Dibbley oh was he in the passenger chair? Forgot about that
"Better send the meat truck"
I notice the side-pipes are fluted unlike the straight ones seen in Mad Max 2/Road Warrior - a not so exact restoration or were they fluted in the first movie?
Gotta go gooning in that
That hardtop sounded like a bloody automatic to me not a toploader
Chief Fefe wasnt growing weed plants.
He was giving em back to the heros!
He said potted plants, not pot plants... As in house plants (office plants?).
The original Mad Max car was a Real XB GT Falcon Coupe and now lives in Florida USA at the Dezer Auto Museum
just been sold
Oooof the pursuit intercepter is BEAUTIFUL!
Ford Falcon was ahead of its time. It looked like a late '80s car.
"Best Mad Max film, Mad Max 1 of 1979"
Now just hold on a minute!! Road Warrior/MM2 finale set the bar on car chases, buddy!
The 4 door Pursuit was a worked 302 which beat the 4 door 351 Interceptor. The XA was only a 6cyl. They ran the Monaro through the bush & trees to get it looking rough as it was well looked after, until the movie.
the original interceptor is in Miami Florida.
I wish ppl making videos about these cars would actually know what they are talking about. A Coupe was saved, rebuilt & ended up in a London Museum. Then it was sold to a Museum in Florida. It is now up for sale & i hope someone brings it home to OZ where it belongs.
It was never in London.
@@jimmytgoose476 Yes it was in London & it is an Interceptor.
@@jimmytgoose476 It`s An Aussie car & you`re telling me i`m wrong when it is the known history of the car which you can research ?
Yeah . Tell me when and where it was in London (with your references) and that's good . Otherwise suck it up that it wasn't in London like I'm telling you it wasn't.
The description of the Police Chief!
🤣
Best Mad Max was The Road Warrior
There is no best. There is only personal preference. The first movie tells you how and why max is "mad". And it features the undamaged interceptor too, which max uses to hunt down the people who killed his family. The original movie is the purest Mad Max movie of them all and has the best car chase scenes. Its Max's story. Tells you who he is and how how and why he got to be that way. The second movie has a great opening scene.
It was fury road
amaticmk42
Get lost noob. These cars aren't even in that shitty neofeminist garbage film Fuiosa's Road. That film was another garbage action movie for the dumb ass, mainstream masses.
@@245-TRIOXIN the interseptor was in the film just in the intro sequence
Plus your a meninist
2-4-5 TRIOXIN that was one of the single most painful sentences I’ve ever read, just because a film has a female lead it’s a feminist movie? He film was great and one of the best pieces of action cinema of this generation of shit CGI.
There needs to be a famous cars drag race. Like the black interceptor vs bandit trans am
MFP - Main Force Patrol. Keeping together whats left of a dystopian future. Actual ultra dangerous stunts - never to be duplicated with CG computer effects, and insurance regs. outlawed these stunts here in US.
I'M SURE MFP STOOD FOR MAIN FORCE POLICE.
back then vehicles had character , now since the femi mangina 2000s they are fucking electric shavers on wheels...with few exceptions
wakesake i call them "domestic appliances"
well said !
wakesake now cars from every continent looks similiar
It doesnt have that much different
wakesake no kidding gm and Chrysler made everything go to hell
I mean yeah, they had character, but they were also slow as fuck and grossly inefficient. If we are talking aesthetics sure 60's to late 80's any day of the week, but as for being good vehicles, a comprable car in class/price today is far better...
Love it. I'd personally like to have the interceptor from MadMax 2.
