i'm a big fan of mad max love the history of the film but youre right this youtube video actually gets me dizzy !!
I could be wrong but I’m sure the “interceptor” name was that which applied to the yellow 4 door police unit used by the police patrol. The black coupe to which everyone seems to call the interceptor was actually the “pursuit special”.
Yes. In the first movie after max steals it from the police depot you can hear someone calling it a pursuit special on the police radio. The mechanic in the Road Warrior was the one who called it the last of the v8 interceptors. Don’t know if thats a goof or miller intended it that way.
My thought would be that all of the cars are interceptors and that the hero car was a pursuit special interceptor.
Narrated, and edited, by The Night Rider. Remember him when you look at the night sky...
The Night Rider not to be confused with The Knight Rider........ An entire generation does not know the difference sadly...
@@jarleron4788 one drives an iconic heavily modified black wedge-nose muscle car from the late 70's.
the other one is in mad max.
@@jarleron4788 no one was confused till you mention a non related TV sitcom that would be better forgotten .
Here in the states where I live, I saw a guy at one of our local gas stations filling up an old matte black colored car that looked to be muscle car era. It had a Ford symbol in the grill and it was right hand drive. Of course I had to inquire about what the heck it was he was driving. And he told me it was an Australian XBGT Ford Falcon. Said it was the Mad Max car. I said.. “this was the Interceptor?” He confirmed. I’ve seen many awesome cars throughout my life and that was one of the most awesome. I was fascinated by that old right hand drive Ford muscle car. One thing we Americans and the Australians have in common for sure, we love our V8’s.
There is one on the central coast of California. The owner shows up for car rallies and local events. People see it and either know exactly what it is or have no clue. I like to stand nearby when they ask. I simply say in an Aussie lilt, "She's the last of the V8s. Sucks nitro. Phase four heads, twin overhead cams, 600 horsepower through the wheels with the blower. She's meanness put to music and the bitch is born to run!" They usually stare blankly.
It used to piss me off so much that in both Road Warrior and Fury Road they destroy the Interceptor, the very ride of Max himself. It was such a cool car and I always thought (and still do, to a degree) that he should have been allowed to keep it all throughout one or both of those movies, sort of like how the hero gunslinger always has his black steed. However, then I started thinking from a storyteller's perspective, and it actually made more sense. The story wants Max to interact with other people, have a chance to bond and form various relationships, some good, some bad, but above all else, he can not be allowed to remain a loner. If that happened the story would go nowhere. And the Interceptor is the one thing that allows Max to drive away from people, to remove himself from the story and just remain an outcast with nothing and no one to interact with. So from the narrative point of view, I understand perfectly why it has to be done. But it still hurts when that machine is trashed... every. single. time.
@@WayneDowsent I do believe there is an original, undamaged, Mad Max car hidden in a garage/shed somewhere in Australia.

I like the Mad Max films with Mel Gibson so much that I have the miniature of the Interceptor V8 in a 1/18 scale of the first film, the miniature is incredible, identical to the original car of the film, and opens the doors, the hood and the trunk.
Yeah, my kids bought me one for Christmas, and to their horror I took it apart immediately. After I put it back together with LEDs including a flashing blue one for the light on the dash, they completely geeked out over it.
Loved it! Road Warrior and Fury Road are two of the best action movies ever made! Love the commentary, Aussies are awesome!
Best film trilogy ever . I've watched then all so many times I can play them in my head . Mad Max was amazing , mad Max 2 took it to a new level and was really making cinematic history , and then the final installment was so different from the other 2 yet spellbinding and unforgettable 👍👍👍👍 they were all the ducks guts 😎😎
I’m sure you talking about original 3 but in case you wasn’t aware there’s 4 now. First two you mentioned then there was a third with a thunder dome arena. Then finally fury road. I prefer the second and last one they made. I feel like they were made the best.
@@matt911112 thanks for you reply. Yeah I'm aware of all original 3 with Mel Gibson and the forth one also . I agree , I think mad Max 2 and 3 were best . @@edwardwilliammorris1340 oh I was referring to fury road for its atmosphere and the second movie but I do like the third as well. I thought the whole plane part was rather strange but hey weirder stuff has happened. My favorite part is the very last chase when max runs into the pilot from the second movie and the kid and ruins his situation all over again lol. Never knew they used the OG car in fury road I’d figured they use another.
I'm glad to see that a cool car from one of my all time favorite films has become a museum piece of history... Kinda like what happened to " Dog " from the road warrior, you just like to hear that they ended up in a good place
When you have dramatic suspenseful music all the time, it ceases to be dramatic and suspenseful. With that said, thanks for making the video. I'm a huge Mad Max fan!!!
Back in the eighties I had a replica of the March Hare's XA Interceptor.
Very few people had any idea that it was a car from Mad Max.
Was pulled over by the cops for doing a burnout and one of the cops said "what are you? A clown!"
That was awesome Wayne. Thoroughly enjoyed it. We had a Falcon in the US in the ‘60s but it was a dorky 6 cylinder grandma mobile. We had a car called the Grand Torino in the ‘70s that resembled the Aussie version of the Falcon. It had a big block V8. Now I was too young to watch the first two Mad Max films when they first came out, but I clearly remember the Beyond Thunder Dome film. It was so popular with the kids at my school, we would all climb up on the jungle gym and chant “Two men enter; one man leaves!” while two boys would “battle to the death” in the middle. Good times. There’s a part where Tina Turner says to Mad Max something like, “We make a great pair, Raggedy Man.” Me and my brother thought that was the funniest thing for some reason. We called each other Raggedy Man for about a year after that.
That's funny Raggedy man! The family Torino would've been nice!! Over here in Australia most Mad Max fans (including me) hate MM3 simply because there was no Interceptor!! I've owned two Falcon coupes, one of which looked very similar to the MM Interceptor!
@@WayneDowsent Somehow the feedback I have received has become scrambled. Referring to the first film the car was in: Far to many people missed what was clearly stated at the beginning of the film, it takes place IN THE FUTURE. We do not know how everything shown in the film came about.
The other thing that surprises me is most people fail to understand the film WAS ASSEMBLED and not filmed as shown. For some reason they fail to notice at one point that on of XA interceptors is sitting on the road ALREADY ON IT'S ROOF, but when the car actually rolls is shown later in the film.
It is nothing but a "fairy tale" movie. If Kennedy -Miller had reason to believe the film would have become a hit they would have documented how the vehicles came to be in real life (and filmed at a standard film speed so that details could be examined frame by frame!) There far too many people claiming they own the original vehicles. The original XB was sold after filming but before the film was released because K - M needed the money. They bought it (?) back for the 2nd film. The time the car was in someone else's hands, and any modifications made, was not documented. It was during that time period it had the boat engine.
I am also in belief there were semi duplicates of the black car meant to be seen from the distance, the scene where it meets it's end shows one of those cars, it has a chrome rear bumper. Top many people fail to watch the movie frame by frame when siting "details"
@Mark Richards that's what I was going to say... I had a 1965 Falcon 289 with a factory 2 barrel police carburetor, ran fairly strong.
Mark Richards I never knew about that one. The ones I’ve seen were six cylinder cars with three on the tree column shifters. 😄
One of the few movie cars that actually has character to it, the car changed with Max through all the movies. My favorite movie duo, if you can call it that

It was on UK TV last night. I'm not sure which version, Aussie or Yank 'cos I missed it. :¬(
Fury Road happened before Thunderdome. Thats why he doesnt have the Interceptor in Thunderdome but he still has his jacket which he then lost. Hes older with gray hair in Thunderdome and more talkative after getting redemption with Furiosa. The Fury Road Interceptor was the last time he rebuilt it, trying to keep a part of his past. Remember in the first movie, they told Max it was built from scratch piece by piece. He did the same after Road Warrior and rebuilt the Interceptor that we see in the beginning of Fury Road. He never rebuilt it after Fury Road because he found redemption from his past. Anything in Thunderdome is just random meaningless transportation to him compared to the Interceptor that he moved on from. This is my favorite and most logical and chronological theory of the Interceptor's timeline 🤔✌🏽
That's one awesome car! Here in the US it was a similar to the Ford Grand Torino! Both are bad ass cars and would absolutely love to have them!
Let's not forget the Mach 1 Mustang, there are a lot of similarities also!!
To hear the history of the Interceptor in Australian accent is just 👌🏻

loved the video! Really heard the passion come through for such an awesome car
Always wanted a supercharger like that, ever since I saw the movie so long ago... Not for the power but the SOUND!!! xD
They still make the Scott Superslot injector and scoop. EFI now, but a Superslot none the less.
True, but stick it on the proper blower with the right gear clearances and howl it will!
If you want the sound of a blower convert you camshaft drive from chain to gear it will give a distinct whine to the engine
I can attest to that. Gear drives are quite noisy; Pete Jackson type or Milodon single-idler certainly give a good howl. Nothing compares to a 6/71 belt-drive blower however, except perhaps a Latham in terms of sfx. Kens and Leslie built a reputation on that distinctive Latham scream.
I was surprised that the fury road interceptor wasn't given away to one of the mechanics or something
I was able to see the original car in the Miami musium. I took picture with the car and filmed the car. Man it was a dream that became a reality for me.

The car is not in England any more it is in The Florida Museum. Also the Car original colour was White also on the original Victorian rego papers, the car was painted Black by owner of the car Murray Smith or by the movie mob for Mad Max 1.
