It's rare when a vehicle becomes a character in a movie. Even more when it's really not even in the movie till the end. But the Ford Falcon V8 roars out of the garage an enraged beast out for revenge and destroys all in it's path. This scene still gives me goosebumps.

Yup, hands down the greatest movie car ever! Mel was the star, but the Interceptor was what people remember most. The "blower" shots with Max behind the wheel are just epic!

@@markturley9542 actually now you can.....they do have heavy duty clutches similar to AC compressor clutches that can switch a blower on and off.....the belt always turns regardless. They did not have that back when Mad Max was made though....so it was a peek into the future whether intentional or not. Iconic movie!
This car is just so freaking awesome. I played through the entire Mad Max game just to unlock the V8 Interceptor. I got goosebumps when I unlocked the car and finally got to put Max in his iconic leather jacket with double-barrel shotgun and ride around in the wasteland with the Interceptor. I love the movies and I absolutely adore that car!
At 2:34 Toecutter was shitting bricks seeing the Interceptor closing in on him gave me a chill back in 1980, when I first saw it. Now and to this day. STILL DOES!!
I always loved the vibes the first movie had.... it felt like the world only ended a few months beforehand and what we were seeing were the last shreds of civilization as we knew it dying at last
Love how this film ends with the camera travelling down the road as though thats what max's life will become. Just driving into nowhere. Then Mad Max 2 starts with Max still driving the Interceptor, but shits just totally deteriorated. Its absolutely awesome.
I guess 'MFP' was essentially no more after the first movie ended because the next time we see Max in the second film some time has passed, he's no longer with MFP, or had already disbanded. That being the case, I guess each officer just kept whatever equipment they were using at the time (weapons, vehicles, etc). Regardless, it was sad seeing the once badass Falcon deteriorate in the second film and ultimately get totalled in a crash. What little law and order there was in the first movie was long gone by the second :>\
That impatient and aggressive wheel spin sound is amazing! And that compressor sound really amplifies the tension of the pursuit! I love the Interceptor!
I re watched this movie with my son a couple of years ago. I asked him what he thought about it afterwards. He said he thought the stunts were really realistic. There are just some things you can't do with CGI and make a great Mad Max movie is one of them!
The Black Angel of death. They made a very big mistake messing with the wrong guy. They took his family & he showed them no mercy. Mad Max will forever be the greatest Australian cult movie ever made.
You missed the best part when he says, "That chain's made of hardened steel & will take 20 minutes to cut thru, but you can cut thru your ankle in about 5."
Notice during the chase of the single bike when the bike pulls away after the curve. The Intercepter’s front suspension unloads and lifts a little bit when the stunt driver gets on the throttle to accelerate and keep up. The Intercepter had some balls!
Those cars in the movie were seen cruising around near where I lived in Werribee and I never took a second look. They were parked across the road from the current cop shop where the film crew stayed. Amazing how the scenes in the movie turned it into a beast.

You do know that supercharger on that particular car was fake..it ran off an electric engine under the hood lol superchargers can't be turned on/off with a switch they have to continusly spin or the pullys/belts would explored and the engine would probably blow.

@@terencej72 there is a way that it can be done. It is rare to see but I has been done. The belt rides on an idler pulley that has its bracket attached to a micro electrical motor. When the switch is pulled it engages the idler into the belt. The problem you end with is that the belt would break often being subjected to the increase in force coming off the harmonic balancer. That's why it's just not done in real life. Besides the engine has to be tuned for the increase in air pressure and the fuel air mixture gets all out of whack. So it's better as a direct drive instead. Just plain works better.
Years later I was devastated to learn that the supercharger was not real. During 1979 , whilst in the RAAF, when the movie was shown at Wagga Wagga, Fifi Macaffee who played the police chief did the intro of the movie and answered our questions. A very special night.

Cracks me up re: the scene with the interceptor pulling up behind the biker gang. They are driving on a tree lined road, Max reaches down and pulls the blower level and voila, they are all out in the open on a totally different road!
Best car film ever. Remember this was pre-digital and they didn't use miniatures or film speed tricks.. all this was filmed at speed, in the camera. Best car film ever.

Great movie. Use to go and see it at the midnight movies back in the early 80’s for a dollar. Thought it was the best action movie ever till “the road warrior” came out. The two movies are tame to today’s standards, but still classics. If either are on to this day, I’ll stop to watch them both.

1 thing that caught my eye was the fact that the pulley on a supercharger cant be put on or off, its always spinning, Glad the latest movie didnt spare any expense when it came to buying real engines, mean ones at that, sort of engine you get when you make a deal with the devil.

この映画は学校の友達と観にいった。
なんと言っても、このスピード感に痺れた。
大型バイクやチューニングされた車で、200キロは出ていそうな疾走感。
今まで見たことの無い路面の速さは、心底スゲーって思ったもんだ。
スピード感を伝える低めのカメラワークがこの映画の肝。
40年経っても、疾走感は変わらないね。
当時、将来カワサキから400km/h出るスーパーチャージャー付きのバイクが市販されようとは、想像も出来なかったなぁ………
