This is Susan Lucci's finest performance. Nobody else could have made these scenes what they were - incredible character build up and superbly written dialog. She went for it.
"...Saint Maria of Wildwind, tending to the sick in her push-up bra!" I know this was sad to see Erica break down, but that line she said about Maria was funny as hell!!!! The shade!!!!!!
Reminds me of another scene of Santa Maria, furious with Erica threatening to “nail her pampered, exfoliated, derma-lubed buns to the wall”. Good times.
She said everyone in that room had a turn at her.....not Hayley. Hayley never had it in for her. Erica and Hayley always adored each other which is why I liked how when she told Dimitri to tell everyone his “announcement” she mentioned her closest loved ones, “Opal, Palmer, Hayley, Myrtle!”....she mentioned Hayley. It showed how much she really cares about her. I just wish Hayley had been incorporated more into Erica’s storylines
Hayley didn't actively have a turn at Erica, you're right, but Hayley still was guilty by association when her father Adam managed to wrest ownership and control of Enchantment away from Erica, and Adam then put Hayley in charge. So when Erica kept saying "they" took her company away from her, that's what she was referring to.
Excellent scenes and Susan Lucci knocked it out of the park. It's a shame she didn't win the Emmy for the scenes from the Women in Media ceremony/dinner
Erica Kane reading the entire population of Pine Valley and their ancestors to filth. She did not win an Emmy _after_ 19 years, she won that Emmy for _all_ the years of her work - past, present, and future. Susan Lucci, a crown jewel of the soap opera dynasty.
I'm surprised she didn't call him out, too. Remember when she was high and screwed him because she thought he was Dimitri. The idea of Erica becoming an addict is interesting because I remember scenes from the 80's with Erica going off on some people for bringing cocaine to her apartment in Manhattan.
I know this was in the midst of her addiction, but Erica reading lessers for filth is glorious. Lucci was phenomenal. Just when you think Erica is unbearable, she reminds you of her vulnerability.
@@Obsessedjarlenafan OMG it's like she is speaking for me and my life and how the people have treated me backstabbers who have done nothing but distroy me for being a good person and my mom the only decent person I knew is gone she pass 4 years ago

I Miss Susan Lucci on tv every day 😄😄 I luv Erica Cane one of my favorites tv actresses , best dressed woman on tv and loved the campy plots 👍👍,this woman deserves more than one Emmy 🧐🧐
Damn how could it off taken so long for her to win an Emmy. Susan is truly talented not just in AMC but in her movies too... Between love and hate, seduced and betrayed and the woman who sinned..... and many more
This truly is a tour du force performance. Anyone who saya Lucci cant act has clearly never seen this scene. When she talks aboit Mona and you see Eileen (Mrytle) nd Ruth (Phoebe) start to choke up, you can tell they are genuine moved by what they are witnessing.
Did anyone else notice that Opal didn't suggest to Erica that she sit down until she insulted Tad. She was like "ok honey, I didn't mind it when you insulted Brooke, Dimitri, Maria, & Liza. But now you're insulting my son & now I have to stop it." I also notice that Opal when to the camera man but she let Erica continue her speech.
One of my favorite moments leading up to this astonishing performance is when she's in the ladies' room after her white dress gets splashed with red wine. She opens the little case that she kept her pills in and they explode all over the floor. As she tries to pick them up "Maria" comes in and questions her... She picks up one of the pills... ERICA: "You put that down!" MARIA: (flatly) "Erica, how many have you taken?" ERICA: (defiantly) _"You want one?"_
To me, this is Susan's second best performance of all time. Her performance two years earlier during Mona's funeral was her very best performance of all time and she richly deserved the Emmy for them both. ❤️❤️❤️
This is tour de force acting. Long Monologues on soaps can be boring, but not this one. She should have won for this year...but that damn blue ribbon panel were always jealous that she made so much $$ in her primetime movies. but she got it eventually!!
Bravo to Susan and the rest of the cast for this. Loved watching all their non verbal reactions to her. Great work but I think Erika Slezak won the Emmy for the DID/victor stuff. Susan was just edged out slightly.
I forgot how great this episode was. It was an incredible way to recount Erica's history but also capture the essence of her character - passionate but vulnerable, and yes, she was hurt and betrayed by a lot of those people. As selfish and narcissistic as Erica could be, she was 100% correct when she read them for filth. A powerful performance by Susan Lucci. I agree she should have won for this story but the year she won the Emmy, she was also fantastic (and deserving).
Thank god Spike wasn’t born at this time. It would have broken his little heart to see Erica in this condition though if this had been done towards the end of the series it would have been a dramatic moment when Spike is sitting there quietly watching Erica fall apart as Kendall, Zach, Ryan, Greenlee, and the rest of the town are mortified that poor Spike witnesses this train wreck, Erica finally sees Spike looking heartbroken and disappointed and it sobers Erica up and she calls his name as Spike runs from the room in tears and Kendall is LIVID at her mother. Kendall: “Well…u proud of yourself?! Are u HAPPY NOW?!” Zach: THE BOY DIDN’T DESERVE THAT!!!!” As Kendall goes to run after Spike and Greenlee stops her and says she’ll talk to him as everyone else is sitting quietly and awkwardly as Erica breaks down in tears.
I know this was when Erica was addicted to pills (?). Judging by everyone there and hairstyles (especially Liza and Hayley), this had to be 95 or 96? Whatever year it was, I know I haven't seen this since it aired live. Makes me want to rewatch that whole storyline again
