I love mesquite so much, grew up with lots of it in S Az, but rarely see any this size. What an incredible bowl, congrats!

Thanks sir! I reckon you’ve got some mesquite in your neck of the woods. You’ll enjoy putting a chunk on the Revo.

Yes. Learning some bowls like this is my next cautiously optimistic step. Lol

very nice! beautiful piece of woodart
I just came across your channel today and have been watching many of your videos and subscribed right away.
Do you still think highly of the lathe you used for this work?
Would you have considered doing a core to make a smaller bowl out of that piece?
    Thanks.

Thanks 🙏. Yep I still love my revo. I don’t have a coring system but I love the concept. I just don’t turn enough to make it worth my while.

Nice job Paul! How much time did you spend on grinder? Lol Happy turning! 👍🏼💫🪵

Thanks Douglas. I did the rough turning on this a while back but to my recollection I’d say I sharpened my bowl gouge 5-6 times, plus the other tools. And that was on green wood. I can only imagine how much sharpening would be needed if you turned this stuff dry.

@@ToolMetrix It can be cumbersome for sure and to sharpen gouges is about three times that dry. It’s like turning concrete. Lol🤘🏼

Ha! Yeah I bet. I turned a massive white oak burl one time. It took me all day. The bowl gouge was literally dull after every single pass across the bowl. I left the grinder run that day. That’s the only time I was ever sore from turning! True story.

Now that’s a big bowl! You did an awesome job Paul! 👍🏻 Is that the 24” lathe? Again thank you for sharing!

Hi Bill, thanks! Yes, it's a Laguna 2436 lathe, 3 HP. Really like it.

      @@ToolMetrix 3 hp.. Damn

Could easily turn this bowl on a 1.5 hp lathe though.
