God DAMN I love these videos. I'm 24 years old, studied engineering in college and am now trying to switch over into neuropsychology, but I really wish I could be a woodworker sometimes. Amazing as always Frank! Thank you for letting me live vicariously through you.
I've watched most of your videos over the years. I think this piece is my favorite one yet. It really ended up as a showcase of the material more than the form. Very well done.
I love the fluid color and texture of the natural wood. Probably doesn't make since but the natural beauty of the wood that comes out after the work is done.
i think a lot of people don’t realize that the actual bowl turning is the easy part. most anyone could go out, buy a bowl blank, and turn a nice finished bowl in an afternoon. the truly impressive thing about this channel is the way frank sources, processes, organizes and documents his lumber and blanks over the course of years. it seems like every project he takes on uses stock that he has processed down from the tree himself. from bowl blanks to the basement remodel.
I've recently thought about doing this kind of live edge myself so your experience is very helpful, especially the part on sanding the overhanging points. Enjoyable and informative video as always, Frank. Keep up the great work!
The "Carol Burnett Mop Lady Alter Ego" of yours is a fun touch. Could've used another rotation or two of the payoff shot. That was a great figured piece of wood and wanted to watch it a bit more. Thank you Frank!
Frank: Big fan and love your work but as a bowl turner would offer a suggestion on how to turn a bowl without having holes in the bottom. Clean off a spot on what will become the inside and either mount a face plate or use a worm screw to mount to the head stock. Turn the outside of the bowl first and leave a tenon or recess for your 4 jaw chuck. Reverse the bowl and hollow out the inside which will erase the screw holes. Once you've finished the inside you can then remove the tenon and have a finished bowl with out holes.
Frank, I’ve flown helicopters in combat but would never try to shave the inside of that burl with that jagged very irregular edge! You’ve got a pair of Steelies Frank! That is one Beautiful bowl you made! Excellent craftsmanship! BTW, Don’t listen to that Hawaiian tourist helper you’ve got, he’s had too much sun and a surf board hit him in the head.
Hello Frank! In the beginning of the video I was kind of wishing that you would "complete" the bowl with resin, but when I saw the end result I realized that it was perfect just the way it was. Maybe you can find another similar piece of wood and fill in the missing parts with resin? I guess it will require som kind of mold to get a good result. Anyways, thanks for a great video! It's very relaxing watching you create nice things out of wood :) Kind Regards, Joel
this is the very first video where I've seen both the drying and the actual bowl turning videos.... reminds me how long you've been creating such great content!!
Hi Frank, great video as always 👍. I noticed you have a new “air fed” mask, I use these daily and the speed glass welders mask (the belt pack fits both) I would recommend getting a hold of some visor protectors though as the visor is a scratch magnet, they are literally acetate and similar to a motorcycle helmets visor protector, 3m sell them relatively cheap and they just stick on with sticky tabs👍 I hope this helps and you can grab some soon
Oh yeah, I get to be the first to comment. I have admired your work and talent ever since I started watching this subscription. I have been turning for almost 30 years and have never done a live edge. I have done mostly spindle work and some bowls but not like what you do. Thank you again for your inspiration. I wish you could come to the Idaho Artistry in Wood when this whole pandemic thing is over. Thanks much and best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What I like to do with uneven pieces with interrupted cuts is to go as fast as possible. That way chisel can't sort of plunge too deep between cuts as the piece rotates. Obviously piece has to be fairly well balanced elsewhere at that point but I think that is one way to go about such things.
Beautiful I was wondering why you didn’t turn it upside down on your CNC and cut out the bottom so that it was flat and right where you wanted it then you could’ve managed it with the adjustable jaws jaws?
It feels almost criminal how much those PAPR's cost! you could get a fairly competent mini lathe woodturning setup for the cost of the 3m PAPR. i plan on DIYing one sometime soon.
Frank, hello! Please advise which mask and which filters will be reliable for protecting the respiratory organs and eyes for woodturning, woodcarving and etc.?

The fact that these videos all take 2-3 years to make is unbelievable. Much respect!
I've watched most of your videos over the years. I think this piece is my favorite one yet. It really ended up as a showcase of the material more than the form. Very well done.
superb production quality and storytelling on the video Frank, the split-screen at the start was very effective and fun.
I love the fluid color and texture of the natural wood. Probably doesn't make since but the natural beauty of the wood that comes out after the work is done.
Love your style of video. You explain exactly what you are doing instead of just showing the work your doing. And, no obnoxious music!
Mother Nature has no equal in BEAUTY!

absolutely love the way the pattern shifts in the light
That’s an incredible peace of art.
Thank you for letting us all watch as you made it.
Every wood has a beautiful art side and you find that side perfectly. thanks for sharing and I really like your work 🙏
What a beautiful piece! Great to see the projector screen back in use again, always been a fan of your ""outside the box"" editing!
Very nice bowl, the grain is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing your video.
Not only are your wood working skills on poibnt but so are your editing skills. Keep up the great work.
Beautiful looking bowl, Great Vid as always. thanks for sharing
There is so much beauty in the imperfections of this. It's awesome. Cheers!
Wow Frank it is fantastic and stunningly beautiful magnificent and spectacular. Wow!!!
That bowl is beautiful!! 👍👍👍👍👍
I've recently thought about doing this kind of live edge myself so your experience is very helpful, especially the part on sanding the overhanging points. Enjoyable and informative video as always, Frank. Keep up the great work!
That's beautiful, Frank.
Turned out beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

I have a friend who would love it as a gift!
Awesome!!! Always a viewing pleasure!!!
A bowl that only it's mother could love.. It's mother and me, it's wonderful.

I like that, like video editing but in wood. Cutting off the part of the prosses you don't want seen.
Very nice and a beautiful final product.
Such skill! Amazing wood working, amazing production values!
You know it's going to be good when Franks brother helps out.
I had no idea they were twins.
Not many know his name is actually Knarf
You are my hero Frank!
I don't know if I'm more impressed by the cherry burl or your video editing skills.
Just beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
You are a true artist Frank.
It turned out really lovely...just beautiful.

MRrwmac I agree with your fear. I was on ragged edge waiting for it to explode or catch the tool!
That's a nice looking piece. Thanks.
That's a very beautiful piece of irregular work, Frank. Now that autumn is coming I can imagine some delicious Oregon apples in the finished bowl.
Gorgeous, Frank!
Great job Frank!
Very nice indeed
Great bowl Frank! I see a Groot head from certain angles. I am Groot!
This piece of wood is phenomenal. I like how rustic looking you left it 😀

Andy Phillip does a lot of bowls like this from mutant wood knots and other odd wood pieces. Great stuff.
Very nice piece of wood
Beautiful! Nice job!👍
Bloody Gorgeous as always frank!
Really amazing production and presentation! Few makers go the extra mile. Love your videos!!
Is it me, or has this revealed a portrait/sculpture of Groot's sister?
Most excellent work Frank! 😁
Super nice! Thanks for sharing!
wow, if I ever find a bowl like that, I'll buy it :D Beauty!
Stunning!! Good job
A very well explained tutorial. The bowl is a beautiful centerpiece.
what a beautiful piece of wood
So much patience to let it season for that long. Almost need to forget about it and make heaps more for ongoing green to seasoned rotations.
with enough room or empty top shelves, wood is easy to forget about.
Beautiful work Sir
Super nice bowl.
that's just beautiful. it's always nice to see your work ♥
Beautifully done. Thanks!
Love it Frank! Wish you sold some of these!

that is quite stunning.
Another amazingly awesome video!! Thank you!!
Nice that your twin brother was there to help 😃
Your videos and your work are always inspiring. Thanks for sharing 😍
Stunning!
Wow!… what a beautiful piece…. Thank You!
I need more of these videos.
Wow, that is beautiful. I love it. Your turnings are always very well done!
Glad to see this bowl turned out ok :D
Wow this project turned out gorgeous, amazing job!!!
Beautiful as always.
I AM GROOT!
The sped up scraping looked quite scary. Turned out great in the end
Beautiful.
Beautiful
Great job! Especially finding the old footage after two years.
it took some digging
I'm so jealous of your video editing skills....
Congratulations 👍😎👍
Production Assistant Frank seems like a rad guy to chill with. Hope he gets paid well. Lol
I'm very jealous of your new ppe mask. Those things are so cool! I've been eying Alex Steele's for years but I still can't justify buying one.
Your eyes and air ways are worth it...

Wonderful!
Great piece and great editing as well!
Nice piece
What an episode! We got introduced to some new Franks. There is astronaut Frank and Hawaiian shirt assistant Frank. Welcome to the family guys.
😍 love it!
Was expecting a resin filling around the live edge to preserve it.
Surprised to see it actually doesn't need it :)
I was going to suggest that too. But bark is not as beautiful as sap wood. Although with burl all bets are off. So pretty.
Now starring Robo-Frank!
beautiful
Beautiful I was wondering why you didn’t turn it upside down on your CNC and cut out the bottom so that it was flat and right where you wanted it then you could’ve managed it with the adjustable jaws jaws?
I have done that and it works great but for this one I would have had to make a complicated jig just to hold it on the cnc

I want that (in my Bobby Dukes voice) 🖤❤🖤
