I loved how the stories are successive over the course of millennias, as if a mythology was built, the origin of the dynasty to the current day, a return to the days of old
I adored your call to action at the end during memory lane. It reminds me that what I really want to field is a true Imperium army. A real mix, solid core of Imperial Guard, reinforced by Skitarii and Kastelan Robots, flamer weilding battle sisters and grim Astartes. Modern 40k frowns on and gives no official support for such projects, but I'm certain that few opponents at a hobby club would begrudge facing such a thematic army. As you are so fond of saying, we must make time for fun!
Its gotta be expensive and uncompetitive, but I’ve dreamt of using the Detachment system to do exactly what you’re talking about. The idea of building your night’s army just by grabbing individual pre-stated detachments to create your Imperium-tag Battlegroup.. maybe you play a 2k game with 1k IG, 500 SM, 500 AM. Throw in some Sororitas, maybe a squad of Deathwatch, Inquisitors.. whatever calls to you that day.
If memory serves you can go to a Warhammer shop and run an ‘Armageddon’ game. No rules against what you mix together and something like a 20,000 point limit. That’s what a buddy of mine suggested, and it’s what my army (rogue trader themed) is based off of.
The biggest tragedy of the 41st millennium is that black library hasn’t hired you yet. The 1st story in this video single-handedly showed me an aspect of Fulgrim that I had never appreciated before in my 3+ years in the hobby.
I yearn for those days Baldemort - days where GW did not seem to want their game to be tailored to competitive; days where mixing and matching was encouraged. I’d love to do a campaign with friends of growing our own rogue trader fleets
@@BaldermortYou are FAR too modest sir! You have stitched together some of my favorite stories set in the 40K universe. Your passion is obvious and that is your greatest strength. Never doubt your skill as a writer because you never fail to impress, inspire and entertain us all!
I never realized that being a rogue trader was both such a wonderfully nefarious and double edged sword of a method for dealing with elements of humanity. Also such a clever use of human nature for the benefit of the Imperium.
Everytime I listen to a Baldermort lore video I inadvertently also listen to the art of storytelling while experiencing a range of emotions I can only describe as powerful and profound. Thank you for again for what you do!!
Emperor and Warp be damned! But the reminiscing of the late 80's and Rogue Trader gave me goosebumps. @Baldermort thank you for the walk down memory lane.
Bless you, brother. The homage to The Book was grand. Hit this old Ork right in the heartstrings. The Rogue Traders are the main characters of 40k. It may focus on the Primarchs, the Inquisition, the Mechanicum, or any number of forces, factions, and heroes (or villains). But, the Rogue Traders, they ARE the story.

Ladies and gentleman, Primarch F-ing FULGRIM , presented as he was and should have been. May stories that show the good that he was always teach us of the weight of his tragedy .
Thank you for reminding me why I love "The Hobby" so . . . I have created a charicter of my own. And one other thing I would not be into and love Warhammer the way that I do if it was not for storytellers and content creators like you. You truly have made my Warhammer experience the best!
I’m so glad you did this one Cos you’ve brought so many happy memories back cos my friend and I started on the 40k path by playing rogue trader as an RPG and I still remember those first characters and our merry band of miscreants
38:20 - I just ACTUALLY shed a tear 😢 of reminiscence, THIS GRAINY, BLACK AND WHITE ARTWORK (that THE OLDHAMMERS KNOW AND LOVE), IS of a SQUAT IN POWER ARMOR.... THERE WAS A CITADEL MINIATURE OF THIS LITTLE MAN, IN ALL HIS PEWTER GLORY!!! AND I OWNED HIM!! SEEING THIS PICTURE, AND THE ELUCIDATION DOWN MEMORY LANE PROVIDED BY OUR MOST ESTEEMED, (AND MOST BALD,) SCRIBE OF SCRIBES, LORD BALDERMORT, HAS MADE ME SMILE VERY WARMLY THIS COLD DECEMBER NIGHT. THANK YOU BALDERS, CHEERS MATE.
I didnt think i was here for motivational speeches, but i appreciate it none the less 👌 Top quality as always, the loremaster never fails to enduce awe
Nothing in 40k makes me happier, than a story from before the primarchs fell. The sheer stellar gravity of those 19 demigods in conversation or battle. Shining beacons of a time when the promise of the emperor was so close. So close.
I like the hopefulness of the last story, a torch in the darkness. Damn fine stories!…but one wonders if the Rogue Trader Doorman (sp.) will come in contact with a certain inquisitor.
Rogue Traders, Corsairs Fleets, Inquisitorial Squads, Desthwatch - these are all my favourite bits of TT because they can be whatever I feel like modelling at that moment in time. Anything can be thrown on there for my fleet’s pleasure
I am super excited for this, I think Vanessa will enjoy this episode since Rouge Traders are your "closes thing to trek" in 40K, and that's a huge quote, lol. Thank you for this master piece of an episode, we are going to enjoy it with lunch today!
Sorry Balders, picked it up when it dropped yesterday - I couldn't wait to get my greasy paws on it. Love the section on the OG Rogue Trader. It takes me back to my childhood, every Sunday me & my buddy would live the dream, bringing justice to the galaxy - one corpse at a time. From one old ghoul to another though - are you sure the nostalgia isn't just because it was so good, but because we were kids at the time?
This has left me like a young girl swooning over some boy band, dreaming of what could have been. Or an old man remembering an old love, the warmth, comfort, and all the new wondrous experiences that comes with it.
This was just a sheer pleasure to listen to, I did not know the origins of The Rogue Traders and it was so fun to learn. What an amazing adventure it would be to live that life and explore the unknown. Thank you for taking me on another educational and enjoyable journey. All the love!
Here we are. The run into sanguinala and its story time with brother Baldermort. Life doesn't get much better than this. Break out the good amasec and get comfortable.
Baldermort, I just wanted to let you know that you have bought me back to this greatest of hobbies and I am gaining more joy from it than I can ever remember. Thank you, so very much for that, I hope that Thaddeus and Tarquinus carry on their adventures, it is truly one of my favorite bits of fiction, I cant wait to hear what happens next.
As always, thanks for all the work and presentation of the lore. Rogue traders are not my favourites in WH40k, but you have once again done an excellent job presenting the background of the 40k version of the East India Company, as always. One remark though: the deals in the description are probably limited to the UK or are different in other regions. In the French Gamesplanet store there is no discount on the RT when clicking your link (same prices on all editions as in the Steam store), while the Sigmar game shows only 10% off. In both cases your affiliate code is visible, but the discounts are 0% and 10%, respectively. It's possible that Gamesplanet limit the discounts to your UK viewers. Not a big deal, but maybe something you would like to be aware of.
Thanks for this Bald. I was 12 years-old when a friend showed me Rogue Trader in 1988. I had played D&D/AD&D , Star Frontiers, Top Secret, Star Wars WEG, Battletech, Call of Cthulhu, and a few others. But there was NOTHING like Rogue Trader. It was absolutely insane. Yet made perfect sense to me. I really miss those days. So thank you for this walk down "ye olde memorie layne."
Baldermort the Skull, the Myth, THE LEGEND. Another great work of art and a voice of true musical melody. Like honey on the soul. Blessings of The God Emperor to your glorious service!
The Emperor has blessed us with this stirring speech, right as we needed it! His wisdom is eternal, His plan is infallible, and His servants, like our splendid narrator, are divinely inspired.
Always a warm welcome for the gentle reader :) I'm just doing my thing, hanging around Mr Morts page looking in corners and under rocks in case I somehow missed the next part of my favourite storyline and watching everything else as a courtesy. I am seriously musing that the much rumoured bastard that Thaddeus and Tarquinus are pursuing has some masterplan aimed squarely at the culmination of Tarquinus as the Thaddeus. But I know I haven't got the half of it lol, dammit where is it, the suspense is killing me!!?? ;)
Yet another great video Baldermort! Being new to this Universe, I didn't have any idea of the Rogue Traders role but you have got such a way of conveying the relevant information that even someone that has got no knowledge of this Universe has got the understanding of the faction role after listening to your videos! Can't wait for your next upload!
Really excellent video. Your ability to understand, write and do justice to soo many different factions, situations and characters in the setting is as always supremely impressive. I speak in total honesty when I say, that You display a greater grasp of the nuances than many official Black Library authors. In this alone You "get"; Fulgrim, Rogue-trader nobility politics and the essence of them as an appealing sub-faction. But your greatest strengt is your "warmth"! You are so different from the sadly so often cynical, negative and hostile tone in the fanbase. Your "old war stories" and genuine joy for the setting is endlessly refreshing.
Coming from YOU, that means a lot. I’ve not had a great year. I hope to do much much better in 2024. Thank you for all of your indefatigable support. Financial, mental, and every other kind. It is deeply deeply appreciated. Thank you brother Kristiansen.
Well m'lord Baldy, you battered this one right out of the park, it's a piece of art, utterly captures the mood in its entirety. If someone doesn't grab you by the short n curlies and has you knocking out stuff for GW then there is NO JUSTICE. The way I see it Rogue Trader takes the whole setting off in a different direction, and then there's the characters, who seem to write their own story, bit like you actually lol. So again sir, well done, just fabulous.
I was 11 years old in 1987. It was the first time my brother-in-law brought me to his friends house to play "role playing games". Our host has just returned from college in Japan where he had sold his RPG Phantasm Adventures to a company there. We played Rolemaster, D&D and games like Squad Leader. Never played Rogue Trader then but I knew of it. The story telling and long Saturday nights of gaming help kindle my unending curiosity for new worlds to explore. Twas a magical time.
I am not seeing the discount for rogue trader… the boldermort code doesn’t work for it, and the list price through the link is the full price. Any answers?
I would have never thought that it is possible to have such a bright, optimistic and uplifting video be created out of the grim darkness of the Warhammer 40.000 universe, both in regard of lore as well as from the players side. I applaud you and bow to you in gratitude. Thank you for doing such wonderful work and enriching our lives with it.
How is it that Baldermort can take something I had no knowledge of, or interest in for that matter, & make it an immersive experience that not only piques my interest but has me delving into the lore!? As always BRAVO sir! Tge work you do for this community is truly appreciated. I follow many of the other channels that collaborated with Warrior Tier on Mechanicus:Blood & Steel, but Baldermort is my Loremaster of choice & preference. Thanks for all you do humble servant. This gentle listener will DEFINITELY make some time for fun when I see a new vid from you. Toodle loo!
Excellent tales Lord Baldy! A real treat 👌 really makes me feel like a rogue trader as i have my own small business, the trials and tribulations, losses and struggles, but the thrilling adventure of it all makes it worthwhile
Have you ever thought of turning your hand to doing a story based on a Rogue Trader during the Crusade? As the other stories you have created I am itching for a another instalment
Thank you for this video, 33yoa and into the hobby since i was 12, and I never actually understood what a Rogue Trader was. Well done sir, and welcome back.
My dream 40k army... -Legions of Death Korps of Krieg -Mordian Iron Guards for artillery and post-conquest occupation -Catachan Jungle Fighters for advanced scouting and sabotage/guerilla warfare -Valhallan Ice Warriors for artillery and snow warfare obviously. -Tallarn Desert Raiders for Desert raiding of course. Then we get to the forces ONLY a rogue trader could acquire.... -Ork speed freaks for tanks and mobilization forces. -Eldar for navigation and fleet reinforcements. -Aaaaaand finally to broker deals with Trayzn to trade relics for being able to borrow some of his museum exhibits now and then.
I forgot a few more for my dream 40k army if I were a rogue trader: -A tank battalion of the Armageddon Steel Legion (Obviously with Commissar Yarrick leading... when he can... and I would absolutely have to make sure neither he or the Speed Freaks I'd have working for me would ever cross paths) -Commissar Ciaphas Cain would be my top advisor/overseer of the Valhallan Ice Warriors (secretly him covering the rear would mean I'm guaranteed safety from being out flanked thanks to his luck). -A regiment of the Praetorian Guards to assist either the Mordian Iron Guard OR the Catachan Jungle fighters. -Elysian Drop Troopers for space combat and orbital drop ambushes. -I would also at least request to meet Sly Marbo but I doubt that would happen and I understand. -Top it off with a single Imperial Knight mech. -Followed by either stealing or buying a number of Tau mechs to backup the knight. -Lastly, the one thing money cannot buy nor barter for/with and thus is impossible to acquire: A tendril fleet taken from Hive Fleet Kronos. Explicitly to unleash it on Demon worlds for a laugh. (Perhaps Trayzn could help arrange it. Lol)
Another emotionally adventurous entry from Baldemort! There's no greater voice that can lift us away from our reality & comfortably navigate us through the heights & horrors of the Milky Way galaxy- past, present...and 42,000 years into the future.
Baldermort you are an excellent and (in my humble opinion) very accomplished storyteller. A man who can stay on point, all the while keeping things exciting and captivating. Worthy of a true remembrancer. Kindest regards you wonderful guy!
It was only a 10 dollar donation, Im sure it will work out in the end. There is no way to dispute missing posts. I have tried before. I would have been SuperPISSED had it been a much larger donation. Not at you, the situation. Just know you do not need to worry yourself over getting back to every post. Just keep making that good stuff. That's where I get the thanks.. oh, and maybe... The honorary title of "High lord of SuperThanks" as a tier of recognition in your credits. Even If someone has beat me in donations this year I still want it! My donations alone are greater than if I was on the highest tier available on Patreon. ... Yeah. And I want a Crown! 👑... And Bolter .
Epic video, brother! I commented earlier on my other account whilst I was listening to the video but now that I've finished it, absolutely wonderful, thank you for the great listen!
Knuckle draggin american here. I am so damn happy baldy has a new video. I didn't even see it till 11 hours later. Such bs. Thank the emporer for the articulate bald one.
I'm really late to this party, apologies for that, but I just have to say it again; Baldy, you're a master of your craft, and a criminally underappreciated one at that. I wish you and everyone else here a merry christmas, and every future success.
You waxing lyrical at the end of the video really helped inspire me. I bought the imperial agents codex and was excited to see the imperial navy playable alongside inquisitors and Rogue traders for a single sub faction. It got me wanting to build up my own force and to customize it and make it my own slice of 40k . Then I began playing the rogue trader and loved it.The game has made me want to make my own Force even more . Sadly the rules of 40k army building are a tad bit too constricting. After hearing your words I wanted to build this army for myself . Even if it isn't table top legal. I just imagine my rogue trader ,a pirate hunter, on the fringes of space cleaning up the small threats the larger imperium doesn't have time for using his vast resources to amass private military might working alongside inquisitors and some space marines I have not decided an origin for. Recruiting a kroot shaper and raising loyal kroot hounds to work with the main forces of the rogue trader. To build an army close to playable on table top but more because I haven't felt this in love with a project of warhammer 40k for many years.

(AND MOST BALD,) SCRIBE OF SCRIBES, LORD BALDERMORT, HAS MADE ME SMILE VERY WARMLY THIS COLD DECEMBER NIGHT. THANK YOU BALDERS, CHEERS MATE.
Thanks
GW doesn't deserve its fandom. Baldemort and his fellow enthusiasts have more love for the source material than the people who produce it.
I didnt think i was here for motivational speeches, but i appreciate it none the less 👌
Top quality as always, the loremaster never fails to enduce awe
That banter between the lord and the seneschal 🤣 ace writing lesson... amazing 👏
I am elated you liked it.
@@Baldermort I'm learning from you sensei. You are an amazing writer.
Baldeemort we need more Rogue Trader! I could have listened to hours of this & especially the stories!
The man with the ceramite voice returns! Good to see you still kicking, Baldermort.
Nothing in 40k makes me happier, than a story from before the primarchs fell. The sheer stellar gravity of those 19 demigods in conversation or battle. Shining beacons of a time when the promise of the emperor was so close. So close.
A rouge trader series by you would be amazing!!!
Thank you for this Warhammer 40,000 tribute, this your weekly Warhammer 40,000 tribute. I am so excited to check out Rogue Trader for the weekend.
This is the perfect companion piece to the Rogue Trader game that launched yesterday. As always, grand work good Brother Baldermort!
What can I say? Utterly brilliant! Bravo brother Baldermort, bravo indeed!
Baldermort the Skull, the Myth, THE LEGEND. Another great work of art and a voice of true musical melody. Like honey on the soul. Blessings of The God Emperor to your glorious service!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
YES! Honey to the soul, well stated.
Love these combination of story and lore together. So fitting for the setting and immersion.
Once again you prove you are the best 40K channel on the Internet brother baldermort loving everything thing you do m8 😁🤘✌️
The Emperor has blessed us with this stirring speech, right as we needed it! His wisdom is eternal, His plan is infallible, and His servants, like our splendid narrator, are divinely inspired.
Always a warm welcome for the gentle reader :)
I'm just doing my thing, hanging around Mr Morts page looking in corners and under rocks in case I somehow missed the next part of my favourite storyline and watching everything else as a courtesy. I am seriously musing that the much rumoured bastard that Thaddeus and Tarquinus are pursuing has some masterplan aimed squarely at the culmination of Tarquinus as the Thaddeus. But I know I haven't got the half of it lol, dammit where is it, the suspense is killing me!!?? ;)
The Joy I experience witnessing Baldermort content the Day it Drops... Thank You🙏
Yet another great video Baldermort! Being new to this Universe, I didn't have any idea of the Rogue Traders role but you have got such a way of conveying the relevant information that even someone that has got no knowledge of this Universe has got the understanding of the faction role after listening to your videos! Can't wait for your next upload!
I wish you had more storys about the space wolves primarch. I feel like every other one has been done to death.
@@Baldermort 🥳
Thank you sir. The kids have been on my last nerve and right now some lore is seriously appreciated. Lol more than usual.
I am not seeing the discount for rogue trader… the boldermort code doesn’t work for it, and the list price through the link is the full price. Any answers?
Your voice reminds me of William Morgan Shepard who I loved in Babylon 5. I just got into 40k lore in the last 6 months but I really like your videos
Well told! Thank you! There are few of us who remember the "old days."
I've never known how to pronounce seneschal proper so I'm committing to how you said. Cheers humble servant😁👍
Been listening for rouge trader lore recently. Thanks Baldermort!
Aha, I’ve caught it so soon after release! An excellent way to pass some time at a dull office day.
-Legions of Death Korps of Krieg
-Mordian Iron Guards for artillery and post-conquest occupation
-Catachan Jungle Fighters for advanced scouting and sabotage/guerilla warfare
-Valhallan Ice Warriors for artillery and snow warfare obviously.
I forgot a few more for my dream 40k army if I were a rogue trader:
-A tank battalion of the Armageddon Steel Legion (Obviously with Commissar Yarrick leading... when he can... and I would absolutely have to make sure neither he or the Speed Freaks I'd have working for me would ever cross paths)
-Commissar Ciaphas Cain would be my top advisor/overseer of the Valhallan Ice Warriors (secretly him covering the rear would mean I'm guaranteed safety from being out flanked thanks to his luck).
Lol)
This will be good listening for the parts of the workday where I can’t play a game. Thanks for the timely upload Baldy.
nothing kicks the weekend off like some some Balderlore!
32:00 I love this part :)
Ah, more audio glory! Thank You Brother B!
Another emotionally adventurous entry from Baldemort! There's no greater voice that can lift us away from our reality & comfortably navigate us through the heights & horrors of the Milky Way galaxy- past, present...and 42,000 years into the future.
Great narrative. Thanks Baldermort
Another beautiful story sir . Thank you
Baldermort you are an excellent and (in my humble opinion) very accomplished storyteller.
I will try to get that tier on the credits. I’m sorry I’ve been remiss with them lately. Just a bit tired. Apologies. :(.
*bows low and deep to brother Sickels again!*
BALDERMORT! I've been waiting and so glad this popped up. Did I see something that you were doing something with The Rememberancer?
Thank you Baldemort. Thank you. This video helped me in ways well past beyond the 40k universe. Again, thank you.
Your work is amazing! A great story combined with great lore!! Thanks for all your stuff!!
It brings me great joy!!!
Thanks as always for all your work on this vid Mr. B. And as ever greetings from Kilkenny.
Another brilliant video bud!! Keep up the fantastic work!
I'm really late to this party, apologies for that, but I just have to say it again; Baldy, you're a master of your craft, and a criminally underappreciated one at that. I wish you and everyone else here a merry christmas, and every future success.
Freakin’ Baldermort. Always a good listen. I love the enthusiasm in this one. That end bit made me nostalgic for a period I’ve never lived.
Undoubtedly the best job to have in the whole of the mythos.
17:00 What's that piece of music called? I've wondered that for sooo long but i cannot find it anywhere
Blessed Throne ! Another grand piece of work by Baldermort ! Praise the Emperor !
I really needed to get some good lore this week, thank you baldermort.
Impressive tale that brings the light of the 30th Millennium into the darkness of the 41st.
Fantastic work with this one. Evocative as hell! really makes me want to dust off the X men themed Gensetealer cult !
Hey @baldermort, What song did you use at 26:41?
Beautifully done!
This is the only thing my 2 year old will fall asleep listening to, so from one dad to another, thank you!
Just ask friends if you can have a hodge podge army and no lethal combos are coming. Just fun. They’d be mad not to play you. :)
Oh man I'm 14 mins into this and you should see the smile on my face already! When the music kicks in , goddamn!!!
Thank you for all your efforts. It brings my imagination to life. It was a pleasure to listen to you.
I actually am in tears!!!! Holy throne that was a story ❤🎉
Love the content thanks for how much effort and passion you put into your videos. Your the only channel I have notifications on for. Stay well!
