There can be a kernel of Truth to the reason why that evil exists, I really resist the attempt to fully justify it. Better systems of governance do and should exist within the setting (look at ultramar, the tau, the leagues, the eldar (not the dark eldar), and etc). The imperium is fundamentally flawed and it's awesome because of it
Being able to lead a chaos cult will be one of the most demanding tasks in the Galaxy as one most be an individual of strong of will to cow their followers into submission and to fall the temptations of the ruinous powers, but you most be devoted to the cause and not let the Imperium know of your existence for they will do everything in their powers to crush you. That why the most successful followers of chaos are the ones who do not accept gifts of their patrons gods and still able to reason with themselves and others in achieving their goals.
Love your work brother. I'm 52 and never played the game. I stumbled across your videos about a year or so ago, and now I'm completely addicted to 40k lore & the heresy. I'm considering building a miniature army, mainly because I'm an artist and I think that would kick ass. Lol. Keep up the extraordinary work my friend.

I was not expecting a treatise on the philosophies of human nature and governmental structure. This is why I love Baldermort so much, taking a fictional setting and, without bias or partisanship, illuminate aspects of the real world with lessons learned from the setting.

Great Narration at the beginning. Really shows how when you strip away the propaganda the imperium is the mirror image of chaos and for humanity to have any chance it must fall. Like the moribund byzantine empire it has to make way for a more vigorous and living entity who can do more with the same resources
I really like that you covered the cultists and renegades, and relegate that the mass of conflict between Chaos and the Imperium is between its citizens... the cultists and renegades, the guardsmen and loyalist workers. A contest of faith and numbers. And relatively unexplored as far as my knowledge of the books go.

Im going to enjoy trying to catch up on all the videos I missed while I finish repainting my 2nd edition Iyanden army, feels odd looking back at armies I had before Black Templars were released, I almost forgot I had Crimson Fists, Goff Orks, and even Ultramarines at one point 😂, still knowhere near the amount of armies you must have had over the years.

I do want to say that on the subject of the evil of the imperium vs the evil of chaos, that I think that when the setting is at its best that deciding which is the lesser evil should not be straightforward. Indeed, I'm often a little disappointed and frustrated with some writers not depicting the Imperium as sufficiently despotic. But however great the scale of the Imperiums oppression, at the end of the day it is redeemably evil; whereas the evil of chaos is irredeemable.

I appreciate the introduction to the chaos cultist Baldermort. Especially the part how the Imperium has to be this way to counter the insidious nature of the chaotic influences and xeno incursions into humanities empire. The tourist crowd or the politically orthodox fail to understand democracy has had its time there isn't a way you can govern an interstellar empire with democracy, there isn't a way to stop subversive and demonic influence with tolerance there isn't a way to talk it out with xenos that wish to skin you for their own joy. The Imperium is what it is because of the nature of the enemies it faces humanity has to be harsh to deal with a harsh universe.

You are right about 40K and the Imperium, Baldermort. It is the worst tyranny mankind has ever seen and yet the alternatives are so much worse. This is why whenever some servant to chaos opens their maw and spews bile at the Imperium for it's evils I feel a great rage kindle within me. Humanity is in it's current state BECAUSE of the machinations of the Dark gods. But it's not just humanity, every single Eldar is born damned since their fall for the greed and excess of their ancestors. Yet I foolishly cling to hope the it will one day get better. Maybe one day, chaos will be weak enough to enable the imperium to make good on the promises it made in it's heyday, but I know I won't see it. Whether on the table top, or in video games like boltgun we the players are at best planting seeds for future generations of Imperium Citizens. We burn our decency, for someone else's future, we spend our lives and that of our little soldiers so that there may be a sunrise for others that we will never see. Yet, if that warm sunlight shines on future generations, then perhaps all the sacrifices that's been made and the ones yet to come would be worth it.
The Imperium is like America and Chaos is like China and other countries. America has issues and corruption and poverty but China is like 20x worse and more evil 😈

Re your intro about pundits and their daft hypotheses. It’s the difference in smarts between a grot and an eldar. Most pundits can’t think their way out of a wet paper bag. Allowing these fools to make any commentary on something they are almost entirely too young or thick to grasp has been the Imperium’s greatest error. Human children in a dark universe. They need to seal their lips and still their typing digits and let the elders teach them. Only the true old one, the Grognards, get this.

Love stuff about chaos cults, not nearly enough about them and not nearly enough on the new units of them, they’ve not made the lore, if there is much, easy to access, especially the blood donor with a head on a stick used as a psyker

Whole beginning of the video is what should be read out to anyone who can't understand why Warhammer 40k as a setting is not supposedf to reflect all the current s-f grey mush. Then again, at the end of the day, we know that process of sanitizing Warhammer 40k already begun. I dont even play Warhammer but I just really love his voice, wish he did more videos on different lore in video games, like Skyrim or witcher, man that would sound sweet, oh man imagine playing a DnD campaign with him as the DM, would love.
Counterpoint to "freedom leads to Chaos"... So does Tyranny. It is very common for the oppressed and enslaved populations of the Imperium to be the best recruitment grounds for Chaos. They have said so over and over. The infighting and self-destructive politics You claim will lead a free state to ruin... that happens constantly in the totalitarian governmental structure of the Imperium. Guilliman has a famous quote about if a man lives in poverty and hellish industrial slavery, why should he not join the Arch-enemy on a promise of a better life or simple revenge? Chaos is absolutely the worst... but the Imperium is its own worst enemy.

The tourist crowd or the politically orthodox fail to understand democracy has had its time there isn't a way you can govern an interstellar empire with democracy, there isn't a way to stop subversive and demonic influence with tolerance there isn't a way to talk it out with xenos that wish to skin you for their own joy. The Imperium is what it is because of the nature of the enemies it faces humanity has to be harsh to deal with a harsh universe.

You are right about 40K and the Imperium, Baldermort. It is the worst tyranny mankind has ever seen and yet the alternatives are so much worse. This is why whenever some servant to chaos opens their maw and spews bile at the Imperium for it's evils I feel a great rage kindle within me. Humanity is in it's current state BECAUSE of the machinations of the Dark gods. But it's not just humanity, every single Eldar is born damned since their fall for the greed and excess of their ancestors. Yet I foolishly cling to hope the it will one day get better. Maybe one day, chaos will be weak enough to enable the imperium to make good on the promises it made in it's heyday, but I know I won't see it. Whether on the table top, or in video games like boltgun we the players are at best planting seeds for future generations of Imperium Citizens. We burn our decency, for someone else's future, we spend our lives and that of our little soldiers so that there may be a sunrise for others that we will never see. Yet, if that warm sunlight shines on future generations, then perhaps all the sacrifices that's been made and the ones yet to come would be worth it.
The Imperium is like America and Chaos is like China and other countries.

Re your intro about pundits and their daft hypotheses. It’s the difference in smarts between a grot and an eldar. Most pundits can’t think their way out of a wet paper bag. Allowing these fools to make any commentary on something they are almost entirely too young or thick to grasp has been the Imperium’s greatest error. Human children in a dark universe. They need to seal their lips and still their typing digits and let the elders teach them. Only the true old one, the Grognards, get this.

Whole beginning of the video is what should be read out to anyone who can't understand why Warhammer 40k as a setting is not supposedf to reflect all the current s-f grey mush. Then again, at the end of the day, we know that process of sanitizing Warhammer 40k already begun. Counterpoint to "freedom leads to Chaos"... So does Tyranny. It is very common for the oppressed and enslaved populations of the Imperium to be the best recruitment grounds for Chaos. They have said so over and over. The infighting and self-destructive politics You claim will lead a free state to ruin... that happens constantly in the totalitarian governmental structure of the Imperium. Guilliman has a famous quote about if a man lives in poverty and hellish industrial slavery, why should he not join the Arch-enemy on a promise of a better life or simple revenge? Chaos is absolutely the worst... but the Imperium is its own worst enemy.
